Maybe the ending of "Depression(TM)" can be more liiike, the first person to win becomes a "Therapist" role, so they can now add their own dice-roll to other players' roles. The dice roll doesn't have to be taken if it would lead the player to a bad spot, and sadness and happiness roles are effectively a zero from the therapist(s) for ease of gameplay-then each player goes until they actually make it through the day. I feel like that would be a much better, more logical, and more wholesome message/finale for people who ACTUALLY are struggling with depression and playing the Depression boardgame than just "Welp, someone made it through the day first (somehow), so nobody else gets to make it through the day; they lost."
i'm not sure if you meant for your comment to come across this way, but by saying "people who ACTUALLY are struggling with depression" it kind of makes it sound like Tom doesn't have experience with depression when he's actually depressed himself! again, i might be misinterpretting but i just wanted to point that out in case you didn't know! /nm /pos
@@Gxylord Good looking out c: But naw I meant more like: There's gonna be people playing this game who /don't/ have depression, so those people without depression probably aren't gonna be too sensitive to (or even think too much about) the material/concepts, but someone WITH depression might feel like "wow.. the win-condition is just 'one person makes it, the others fail'? What kind of message is that to those of us with depression?" kinda thing.
@@RandomPhail that’s kind of the nature of a board game based on depression-in games there are winners and losers in board games…that always has to be realized when playing a board game or party game no matter the subject
As someone who was recently diagnosed with MDD immediately after seeking help (my therapist believes that it may be a different disorder though but at the moment that’s what is down for me) the depression game is definitely something I’d buy to help educate the people around me and because of seeing how much these guys were laughing playing it
You can try Tom's game, he put a link in the description for the board and cards for you to print out. Except you have to get your own player pieces and dice!
Tom’s game sounds legitimately helpful for family members who don’t have depression. Like 5 turns in a row of sadness is a spot on example! Plus people with depression can have their symptoms addressed in such a way that they may burden the subject less than they did prior.
When are we getting a publically released version of Depression? I have friends and family that are neurotypical and could use the explanation and understanding of how depression works.
"Turning Depression Into A Board Game" Well, looks like I'm playing early access, though I'm not sure about the naming scheme of this demo called "College"
Yeah, gotta be careful with this, Tom. Once wrote myself into a depressive episode because in my new novel, the MC had depression so we just... Circled the drain together...
@@supremelordofknives Honestly? I probably should have written "manuscript" instead of novel, seeing as it's unpublished. I ended up putting that manuscript aside because I wasn't in a good enough place to write it. Its title has changed many times during my attempts and by the time I'm in a stable enough place to give it another full attempt, it'll probably change again. If it gets published at some point, I'll try to remember to return to this episode and let you know what its title ends up being.
@Percy Yeah, it taught me an important lesson though. At least, I like to think it did. Instead of using art to help my mental state, I ended up just wallowing in it in an unhealthy way, and it's a fine line to walk between expressing your feelings in art and overindulging in them.
Okay, 2 things: 1) I feel like elliot being cursed in this episode is karma for having two awesome weeks 🤣 2) I would definitely pay actual money for Tom and Eddie's games 👌
Honestly, I like the idea of GrandParadox, but it needs a die from 1-3 instead of a straight d6. Other than that, it seems like something that would be fun for a party with a bunch of drunk friends.
@@mody1670 either make a d6 and label 2 sides the same number. IE all the sides combined would be like this 1,1,2,2,3,3 or if you are playing with a regular die, just treat a roll of 1-2 as 1, a roll of 3-4 as a 2, a roll of 5-6 as a 3
I do genuinely think Tom’s game could help, maybe it’d end up in a lot of counselors offices at schools at least to help kids express their feelings of depression
I love the different approaches you took lol Elliot: card game hard Eddie: killing babies Tom: helping people with depression be more understood with the help of a game

Love watching how Elliot very clearly shoots his stuff knowing how he's going to edit it and it's just rampant chaos throughout everybody else's perspectives lmao. Great video lads
depression was probably the best made game, like it was easy to understand and everyone had fun, also tom put so much work into it and it turned out great... i want depression
I’ve had time we’re ive become addicted to making decks and playing it but never actually had friends who play it And even worse my school used to have people play at lunch but the week I buy Pokémon cards they ban them like what luck is that
So we got a darkly humorous yet very sincere game about depression and what you can do to mitigate it, an overcomplicated game about paradoxes and homocide where the creator rigged it, and chaos rock paper scissors featuring Pokémon.
How to fix Elliot's game: Put the base stat totals of the Pokémon on there. If none of the moves directly do the outcome, it comes down to which numbers are the best.
Sorry for bumping this old comment, but I 100% agree. The reason the pokemon TCG is so complicated is partially the cards, but mostly because the game relies on numbers - at its core, that's what pokemon is.
I feel like Eddie doing so well is him making up for literally every other episode so far. But also yo these are awesome! I've been enjoying these with friends and it's awesome seeing you guys together and making stuff! Yall are awesome and I'm glad you're still here and having fun!
For being based on MTG, it's weird how they handled energy. Because it's all based on attachment to the active mon once per turn and you can only start at a Basic, the schoolyard method would just be to build up a tough mon by loading your deck with energies and then steamroll all the baby forms that your oponent can't build up before they get bodied.
Depression needs to be made for sale. 😂 omg, what a great way to address a challenging topic. The black lower case font blank on a plain white lid was perfect 👌 I laughed so much through this whole video. 😂 thanks!
Okay but Tom's game has some highkey wholesome things in it though and I have no doubt that it'd make a great seller if it was made an official game. I absolutely love it and will probably play it someday in the future.
When I found out I had the Depression+adhd combo at the age of 16, my mind was blown on two fronts. On one hand, everything made so much sense. "Im not actually doing that bad i just wanna be Bo Burnham" this channel is a goldmine
The mild irony in Elliot spending so much time making all the Pokémon single-type, when they already are single-types in the TCG. Hahaha bless him
I think there are a few dual types in Pokémon TCG, but they’re few and far between and I don’t think they’re even made anymore
@@Tippex_Official Yeah, they do (my fav is steel psychic Jirachi), but the weakness system is so different in the TCG as well. And then there's the "Delta" Pokémon you've surely seen, where they have super weird typings.
@@YuliaLinderoth like steel pikachus and electric gyarados?
@@Tippex_Official Yeah, or electric Charmander
There are actually some dual types in newer editions lol
Expansion pack?
@@RandomPhail that’s kind of the nature of a board game based on depression-in games there are winners and losers in board games…that always has to be realized when playing a board game or party game no matter the subject
@@CurtyTails I mean, it doesn't, and they literally provided a potential way for it to be avoided.
As someone who was recently diagnosed with MDD immediately after seeking help (my therapist believes that it may be a different disorder though but at the moment that’s what is down for me) the depression game is definitely something I’d buy to help educate the people around me and because of seeing how much these guys were laughing playing it
Tom: *Makes a completely original game*
Eddie: *Also makes a completely original game*
Elliot: Haha Pokémon is hard
Can we get Kickstarter for Tom and Eddie’s games, Not Elliot cause copyright but I’d for one love to try these games
that's what i was thinking
He would just have to fakemon parody it honestly
You can try Tom's game, he put a link in the description for the board and cards for you to print out. Except you have to get your own player pieces and dice!
Tom’s game sounds legitimately helpful for family members who don’t have depression. Like 5 turns in a row of sadness is a spot on example! Plus people with depression can have their symptoms addressed in such a way that they may burden the subject less than they did prior.
I love Eddie and Tom's games. I would honestly pay money for Grandparadox.
I don't care how good the game is, Elliot wins for the unraveling of his board game.
When are we getting a publically released version of Depression? I have friends and family that are neurotypical and could use the explanation and understanding of how depression works.
Memento Mori dear friend
@@solidmoonbeams8939 Lmao I thought you were the same dude
you can make your own board and print out all the cards. p sure tom put it up for free
Check the description!
Why just neurotypical people? Neurodivergent people can also need it explained.
19:55 eddie: if you get a six you can kill that grandad"
Tom: "OK!"
I like how Elliot and Eddie are having fun and Tom is actually serious about the game
"Turning Depression Into A Board Game"
Well, looks like I'm playing early access, though I'm not sure about the naming scheme of this demo called "College"
You have been pressured to judge your self worth based on a letter grade, go back a space
The nerd corrected your sentence after a simple Grammer accident, you then ripped his head off in an empty warehouse
"Move 5 spaces ahead!"
@@beywheelzhater8930 me everyday
I hear they made a sequel called “Nine to Five: Minimum Wage”.
@@luckyanimationideas2448 He corrected your sentence in a simple grammar accident and you made him disappear in a wood-chipper accident.

That sounds like a great twitter bio

Yeah, gotta be careful with this, Tom. Once wrote myself into a depressive episode because in my new novel, the MC had depression so we just... Circled the drain together...
Are you okay now? :(
What is the novel called? Also I hope you are ok.
Tom put his heart and soul into this. He turned something really exhausteing into something that can help people cope with real depression
"Those aren't really depression symptoms, those are ADHD" this hiiiiiit
Okay, 2 things: 1) I feel like elliot being cursed in this episode is karma for having two awesome weeks 🤣 2) I would definitely pay actual money for Tom and Eddie's games 👌
Reminder that Elliot has come out on top of every prior episode except for one that was very close.
Honestly, I like the idea of GrandParadox, but it needs a die from 1-3 instead of a straight d6. Other than that, it seems like something that would be fun for a party with a bunch of drunk friends.
@@ianrose6218 go do you make a 3 sided die?
@@mody1670 either make a d6 and label 2 sides the same number. IE all the sides combined would be like this 1,1,2,2,3,3
or if you are playing with a regular die, just treat a roll of 1-2 as 1, a roll of 3-4 as a 2, a roll of 5-6 as a 3
Tom: documentary-like mental health story, Elliot: Unraveled parody with a lot in post, Eddie: camera on table trying not to horribly fail.
11:40 “grandads here!” This is gonna be an awkward conversation…
20:09 that yay he’s dead never gets old
Elliott referencing Brian David Gilbert feels like being in a secret club.
I do genuinely think Tom’s game could help, maybe it’d end up in a lot of counselors offices at schools at least to help kids express their feelings of depression
I love the different approaches you took lol
Elliot: card game hard
Eddie: killing babies
Tom: helping people with depression be more understood with the help of a game
tomska thinks he's just depressed plot twist YOU ALSO HAVE ADHD
this puts into perspective how much more powerful the chaos becomes when working together, like a final fusion form
... also I would pay money to watch you all play any form of dnd lol
I've scrolled too long without seeing someone mention it.
Elliot that was a fucking spot-on BDG's Unravelled intro impression. My wife and I literally caught it immediately as the title popped in.
I like how tryhards is less the three of them making things and more Elliot getting his chance to make his own UA-cam videos with cameos from Tom and Eddie
The consistency of tom doing good, eddy doing even better and elliot doing horrible in the games is hilarious
but that didn't happen this time, if anything it was the opposite
@@giggabiite4417 Re-read the comment.
13:33 tom lying in bed with a microphone gives me bo burnham vibes I'm not gonna lie
okay well I commented this before he said he just wants to be bo burnham and now I feel like a genius
I love how much work all y'all put into your games. Gotta especially give props to Tom for wanting to share his experiences and give others the chance to do that in a friendly/low-stress manner. Thanks, man, I'm definitely printing that out and play it with my family. Maybe that'll help them understanding the struggle of bad days
Tom:met a cyborg and was offered to touch him.
Elliot:I played cards with my dog
Eddie:I killed grandpa
Tom and Elliot: looks at Eddie in disgust and confusion
eddie experiencing pain at trying to make a viddy game is just what i needed to feel better about my own experience making one, thanks tryhards!
edit: actually. if you don't mind rehashing ideas? what if you had a tryhards game jam?
Shocked Eddie didn't immediately make a beeline for Scratch, that's the quintessential Drag and Drop programming language.
He made Golduck and Psyduck actually psychic types.
Careful, he’s a hero.
Gen 5 double duck rain teams on suicide watch rn
Tom: References Bo Burnham
Elliot: References Brian David Gilbert
Eddy: References Eddy
Tom's POV absolutely gave me bo burnham vibes and i loved it and then he outright SAID IT which makes it so funny
Love watching how Elliot very clearly shoots his stuff knowing how he's going to edit it and it's just rampant chaos throughout everybody else's perspectives lmao. Great video lads
At this point I am seriously worried at what Eddie's son will become
Elliot: "Bats can't poison people!"
The bat that started Covid: "Hold my pandemic."
depression was probably the best made game, like it was easy to understand and everyone had fun, also tom put so much work into it and it turned out great... i want depression
5:30
I would absolutely watch a full video of Elliot simplifying all the dual-type Pokémon!
"we killed a baby grandad with a fighter jet!" My best quote tbh.
Did anybody ever actually understand how to play Pokemon cards or did we all just collect them?
never played it, but I know how to play it
I play it
I’ve had time we’re ive become addicted to making decks and playing it but never actually had friends who play it
And even worse my school used to have people play at lunch but the week I buy Pokémon cards they ban them like what luck is that
I actually did. Although it might have gotten more complicated since then, I remember playing it during gen 3
My brother and I used to play
I was just like "I think I've seen this somewhere before" and then Tom jokes about Bo Burnham. It killed me.
21:00 TURN SOME *FANS* ON BY GETTING UN DRESSED
I actually recently made a card with my brother called "Blunt, Sharp, Shoot." basically just harder rock, paper, scissors.
Luckily, Rick saying “kill grandad” sounds a bit like “hello grandad”
Could have been awkward otherwise.
who needs a board game when you can experience it in real life, every moment of every day?
Yea,I agree, why would I want a board game about killing my grandad when I could easily experience it in real life >:(
Wait what
YAY
So we got a darkly humorous yet very sincere game about depression and what you can do to mitigate it, an overcomplicated game about paradoxes and homocide where the creator rigged it, and chaos rock paper scissors featuring Pokémon.
Honestly I’m livid for Elliot’s statistical wonder when playing depression.
I would love to buy depression the boardgame if it was made legit. Such a good way to connect and talk about things we hold inside.
Well good news it is available for the low low cost of printer paper, he included a digital copy for us
How to fix Elliot's game: Put the base stat totals of the Pokémon on there.
Concepts for board games
Tom: depression
Eddie: Tim travel
Elliot: NINTENDO LAWSUIT
16:39 Depression: The Board Game - "I'm happy with this"
Eddie's spiral into insanity as he attempts to learn GM Studio is very relatable as someone trying to get into game development
Elliot is literally so relatable with having no freaking clue how the pokemon card game works.
you think that's complicated, ever tried getting into MTG or Yugioh?
The pokémon is accutualy the simpler game out of the big 3 (yu-gi-oh,pokémon tcg and magic the gathering)
Elliot's actually gotten really good at keying with Tom's "good enough" lighting... Respect!
Eddie: An elaborate game about time travel
Tom: A comprehensive game about mental health
Eliott: I did a pokemon
Depression needs to be made for sale. 😂 omg, what a great way to address a challenging topic. The black lower case font blank on a plain white lid was perfect 👌 I laughed so much through this whole video. 😂 thanks!
Okay but Tom's game has some highkey wholesome things in it though and I have no doubt that it'd make a great seller if it was made an official game.
I absolutely love it and will probably play it someday in the future.
When I found out I had the Depression+adhd combo at the age of 16, my mind was blown on two fronts. On one hand, everything made so much sense. On the other hand, I was the only person who wasn’t aware of it. Everyone knew. My friends, my teachers, even the guy I bought pizza from figured it out from passively observing me eat at the pizza place. Seriously, wtf?!
Damn
Tomska always goes deep for these types of videos, he really tries in everything and goes full force. Good job Tomska!
Bruh I like how Elliot is making a normal game and Tom is making one about depression and Eddie is making one about killing baby granddad these are all moods
14:10 When I first watched your videos, I’m gonna be honest, I had no idea who Bo Burnham was. I recently watched INSIDE, and have gone through, and am still going through, quite a Bo Burnham phase, and one of my favorite things, is coming back to videos like these, and being surprised when there’s a reference to Bo
I think we can pretty much just assume that, at some point during that visit, Rik shouted "kill grandad!" and Eddie had to awkwardly explain.
