AI TRIP REPORT: MY DRIVERLESS TAXI RIDE, SAN FRANCISCO! Inside Waymo self-driving Jaguar robot car

- A driverless taxi - that's the stuff of the future, right?! But thanks to a company called Waymo, in San Francisco the paying public can now take a ride in a self-driving, fully autonomous Waymo robot car - lovingly nicknamed a 'robotaxi'. I was in San Fran and couldn't resist the chance to try one - though be aware that there is a LONG waiting list to be able to take a ride in one. Watch this video to see exactly what being a passenger inside a driverless taxi is like! It offers a great inside look into the Waymo autonomous self-driving robot car experience. The robot car is a Jaguar - very nice - and my ride put the car to the test. I chose a particularly hilly route - man San Francisco is a hilly city - with lots of ups and downs and steep gradients to test the car out on. Would I find it scary? Would the car brake in time? Would it stop for pedestrians? Did it always stop at red lights? Would there be any close calls? Watch this video to find out!! Surreal, weird, incredible, futuristic and sci-fi are all words that spring to mind about this experience. But hey, this is the stuff of the FUTURE, whether we like it or not.
It's great to hear the Waymo Driver was able to help you get around the city while you were in town, Jo!
I loved the Waymo driving experience - thank you so much. Looking forward to doing more of them in the future!
Check out my ride as well! Some feedback for you there as well :)
I imagine it would be hard to relax and trust it. It was great meeting you on the plane ride to SF. We almost took a Waymo as well. Great video!! Take care and safe travels Jo!
Hey Joe - it was great meeting you two too! I really hope you had a fabulous time in San Fran - next time you go you should definitely try the Waymo...Hope you enjoy your trip to the UK when you come!!😀
This is actually the 2nd City Waymo has expanded too and Jason been operating in Phoenix Arizona for years now. Love the vid!
Ha, I learned this AFTER I filmed my opening piece to camera and by that time it was too late to go back and film it again as I was already back in the UK. But you're quite right about Phoenix - good spot! So glad you liked the vid!
They have trialled driver less mini buses at Sydney Olympic Park for years and also I’ve experienced one at the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore . It’s quite unnerving even at 10 mph , I would find it nerve racking at normal car speeds . Thanks Jo for sharing . Happy travelling 🫡🫡🫡
Hi David - I learned to relax in this car, but I reckon if I was on motorway/highway being driven by a robotaxi at 70mph, I would be MUCH more scared!
Interesting how the cars are just showing as boxes at 2:45, when I was driving recently it was already much more refined!
oh wow, one year on (which it is exactly) I guess there must be some changes/progress...well spotted!
So science fiction. You are brave!
I know Aimee - I'm quite surprised I even agreed to go in it! Luckily it never went fast so I did end up feeling safe...would YOU do this?
This is CRAZY Jo!!! I had no idea such a thing was offered here in the States; I would love to try it though!!! Another great Video! Let me know if you make a stop in St.Louis. Stay safe and in touch my friend! Happy Traveling!!! XXX
Hey Joe, reckon these taxis will be coming to a state near you very soon!! Just a matter of time...it was one of the strangest, weirdest things I have EVER done!!! XXX ps going back on a cruise ship for the first time in yonks next week!!
@@gowithjo1 I just read an article today that said the two top guys at the company that builds these cars just resigned. One of the cars drove through an active crime scene, another drove through a motorcade for the Presidents wife Jill, and another one ran over a lady and drug her for 20 feet.....crazy!!! What/where is yonks! XXX
omg - I'd like to see this article. Are you SURE? I can't find that info anywhere?! Everyone's constantly trying to knock these self-driving cars down, but I suspect they will become a common feature of our future!! XXX@@joemichaels4231
@@gowithjo1 I will try to find it and send you the link. XXX
@@gowithjo1 Did you see the link I posted?
Brilliant
It was really crazy mad fun!
What if I jump into the driver seat? Can I take over control of the car?
No you can NOT! The dashboard of the car speaks to you at the start of the ride, telling you that the car is in control of the ride at all times and you are expressly NOT allowed to take hold of the wheel or the brake!! I've no idea what would happen if you did?! The car has been specially modified I'm sure and doesn't operate like a 'normal' car. The brakes (ie. foot pedals) don't move for example...I checked them!
thanks for sharing Jo.Interesting but I woder what happens if there is an emergency situation........
yep, luckily I didn't have to find that out. You're locked into the car - although if you pull the handle twice it will open...
There are people watching you there are 2 camera's in the car and they will respond if their is an emergency.
Wow - were there really cameras watching me?! I didn't think of that as I rode!!!@@pennytrui1149
If it’s driverless who is liable in an accident
That's a very good question. Must be the company, surely?!
@@gowithjo1yes waymo is liable
WOW WOW WOW scary darling x x x
yes John it WAS scary. Nuts really...what used to be sci-fi is now our reality....mental...
