DK's 350Z was the right car for this role. It was very new, having just been released a couple of years earlier. Watch the video to see how these cars came to be.
How can this movie came out as the worst out of all. This is one if not the best fast and furious. This movie was truly about cars just like it was in the first place and nowadays, fast and furious movies are now heist mission
I agree with you Craig, this was certainly the best portrayal of the tuner scene. They also outdid themselves with the sound design like FINALLY an RX7 that sounded like a 13B.
Tokyo drift is just one of my favorite movies period. Don’t care that it wears the fast and furious title, it’s able to stand on its own and I wish there were more movies or tv shows like it.
You should try to find the Initial D movie..it is a live action adaptation of the Anime series...basically that was all Tokyo Drift only with a American as the lead character...Justin Lin was a great director...he got to prove it with Fast & Furious as well as Fast 5 ...after the 6th movie...they should have stopped!
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.
I think mostly real car fans and people who just enjoy a decent story are the only ones that truly loved this gem of a film. I think the best films are the 1st one and Tokyo Drift.
I personally liked every entry in the mainline series, generally for different reasons. I liked the first movie for nostalgia, the second for the Prelude and the Miami setting, the third for the drifting, the fourth for the continuity nods and build up to part 5, and I liked parts 5 and 6 equally for the action set-pieces, 7 for the sendoff and tribute to Paul Walker, and part 8 for the premise.
Nice video as always. You’re so right, the first three movies the cars were still the stars along side the actors. Starting in F&F4, the cars became mere props.
Truthfully, only Tokyo Drift was actually fully about street racing, the rest were always about something else but they happened to have bits of street racing involved.
Tokyo Drift was my favorite FF film, sure the acting was cheesy but the cars were so cool and the RX7 Veilside is one of my favorite cars in the series
Craig’s putting his heart out there. He’s putting out the info we didn’t even know we needed. Amazing considering he’s not doing this for DVD extra features and he’s not just skimming over them. It takes dedication and patience to go thru each movie then give the cars a thorough look at and assessment. He could’ve just gave back story on each car as he counts up thru the movies but he chose to tell his story with all the extras we love to hear about
Even though 9 got delayed, I really hope that in 10 they come back with some of the old cars, go back to their old roots, and show what happened to cars like the supra or rx7 so on.
Tokyo Drift is my favorite as well, I just love the whole atmosphere of the drifting and characters and stuff. Especially the rooftop scene with Han and Sean talking, and of course the final scene with them drifting through Tokyo.
I'm surprised that Tokyo Drift didn't do so well. It was actually the only Fast & the Furious movie that I've ever seen in theaters 😂😂.. As someone who loves Japanese culture, 17y/o me fell in love with that movie!
I was a kid when it was in theaters and I remember not being interested in tokyo or drifting and just wanted it to be like need for speed underground so I didn't watch it. I finally watched it in like 2011 when I started playing forza drift lobbies and it's easily the best movie in the series.
The Fun thing was that the real drift king was in the movie , fishing and laughing at the main karakter for practicing. Many regular movie watchers missed that. I loved Tokyo drift for the woman and crazy tuning in Japan.
The first one was one we could relate to, it could have been anyone. It felt real. They didnt need to be jumping around in cars to make us WoW it ! They used cars we could buy the next day on any used car dealer. Thank you for the video !! Keep them coming please.
Yeah, it was probably the most realistic representation of the scene. Tokyo Drift, as much as I like it, didn't really show what drifting was about. I get that they needed to have some sort of battle with a victory anyone can see which is why they were racing but drifting isn't a race.
Tokyo Drift is my favorite of the series. Just like Craig said, it didn't have the star power so the studio's expectation is ridiculous. I can't be the only one waiting for Sean to be back in these movies - it's a crime that they didn't do it already.
@@insomniacbritgaming1632 Yeah, a tiny cameo of him and Neela, looking exactly like they did in TD. I wouldn't call that a return to the series. Now Neela is busy with Beauty and Baker. UGH
F&F1 will always be king. That was the most accurate street scene movie ever made. I always watch that movie to reminisce on my high school tuner days. When street racing was actually about respect and racing. Not Instagram fake fame and blowing out a spot being an idiot for burnouts. When people used to catch a beating or soda cans for doing burn outs and revving like an idiot.
Tokyo Drift is my favorite Fast and Furious movie by far, loved the Japan setting and the drifting was spectacular. As he said, it was a movie about cars, and that’s what I care about, everything that came after it was not relevant for me anymore.
This is easily the best movie in the franchise. It's a shame that only Han was from the original cast. Still, this movie changed my life more than any other movie has, from any genre or time period.
Tokyo Drift may not have the best plot and dialogues but it had the best car content of all the saga. It's my favourite F&F movie and it features my favourite car of the saga, Han's RX7.
I have a special respect for the amount of dedication that Tokyo Drift gave to portraying it's environment in such a focused manner. There's no "If we do this we'll reach a bigger demographic" or "Let's add some helicopter chase here and there". The beginning might've been cheesy at best but the rest of the movie after reaching Japan feels dedicated to it's purpose: Making you feel you're in there with the characters enjoying their racing and lives.
Who would've thought everyone's longtime favorite (besides, maybe FnF 1) is also the one who went worst at the box office lol. It's kind of funny that they didn't choose paul to lead in Tokyo drift because they thought he looked too old even though in my opinion Lucas looked older than Paul
Mr. Lieberman, thank you for sharing your stories. It's exactly what the Fast Fam needed. I hope others continue to discover your work. I can't wait to see where the stories take us!
Tokyo Drift is my favorite movie of the franchise. Awesome cars, takes place in Japan and did I say awesome cars? Twinkies VW could have been a Kei car though...

These videos are honestly one of the best things on UA-cam, it's an expansion in a universe I loved since movie 1. Sureeee the new movies are wild but eh it is what it is lol
Amazing Content, also glad I found this channel, I remember seen your tuning of a stunning Evo 8 and a cute playgirl on the additional material of the first the fast and the furious tuning an Evo 8
I've always had a soft spot for Tokyo Drift. While the main lead Sean wasn't as memorable or interesting as Brian or Dom, he was likable enough. But the best character in the whole movie was Han, in my opinion. I especially liked how it set up part 4 and served as a bridge between part 6 and 7. And I'm curious to see how they retcon Han's death in part 9.
Bring these back. The direction that the series is at now, is in a much needed revamp. 2F2F and Tokyo Drift didn't do good, but they were the peak of success for car enthusiasts.
Nice video as always, Craig! It was sad when I finded out that Tokyo Drift wasn't filmed mainly in Japan :/ But still cool movie, overall 2nd best F n F movie in the franchise!
I don't like how they just ditched highly modified cars altogether. They could of still made their silly action movies but have the highly modified cars do crazy stunts instead of racing. Now that would of been cool. Imagine seeing a highly modified 2020 supra getting involved with heists and gunshots.
I agree with you 100%, Mr. Craig! This was my favorite (although the first F&F is a classic), but I agree, I loved this movie- cars, simple plot, great action, chicks, original DK cameo, etc. I really enjoyed it.
We use to drift and race GMR when you guys were filming there.. I had a REAL 92 RHD Silvia Kings ED white and were pissed off you guys were doing a movie on drifting. We were the ones halting the movie progress one night while on a drift run towards the end of the movie you guys were filing and we were revving and yelling down to you..lol Good times. I tried to get on the set but... didnt happen...
Out of all the movies, the first and Tokyo Drift were the only ones to feature cars as a major plot point. In the first, Brain owes Dom a 10 second car and so, much of the movie revolves around that and Tokyo Drift obviously it's about drifting and Japanese cars. Imo Tokyo Drift is a great car movie but the reason why audiences didn't like it is probably not because it had street racing but because they messed with the original Fast and Furious story in general.
Honestly, I felt like Tokyo Drift was underrated. And I thought it was a step up to the second movie (which is my least favorite in the franchise, but I still liked), and was a nice setup to later installments and a nice bridge to Furious 6 and 7. I view 2 Fast 2 Furious as more of a filler to the overall narrative, as it didn't feel much like a follow-up to the original aside from the Turbo-Charged Prelude.
Dope video Craig!!! Universal's numbers definitely seem to have a lot more to do with the lack of star power (Vin and Paul). I wish they would look back at their numbers and realize it's not due to lack of interest! I've personally been writing my own script...hopefully filming can start after COVID19 is over. I will keep you posted!
THANK YOU, Mr. Lieberman! I had just bought my 350Z when this movie came out, so this movie had a place in my heart as it began my own journey with tuning. It's funny, tho.
