- He Died 12 Years Ago, Now His Children Confirm the Rumors.
If you were ever a fan of Gunsmoke, you certainly cannot ignore the character Marshal Matt Dillon, played by James Arness. Critically acclaimed, James became an integral figure in the film, reaping numerous accolades over a five-decade career. Despite his triumphs, the enigmatic behind-the-scenes tales of Gunsmoke have often bewildered audiences. Strikingly, these rumors remain elusive to everyone but James Arness's children. Now, 12 years after James Arness's passing, his children have chosen to unveil the untold truth about their father.
I am 79 and watch GunSmoke all the time on METV. I watched it as a young person and still love Matt.
I’m 68 my father was a big gunsmoke fan and it also grew on myself and my husband. I seen so many reruns but never get tired of watching the show.
I am 87 now but i still watch all the Gun Smoke series. i worked on ranch that supplied horses ,cattle and cowboys for this series. This series was filmed most of the time in Thousand Oaks before it was built up , James was a very nice man,
That sounds like it would have been very interesting life
Still watching every day inspire❤️❗️
I loved Gunsmoke and James Arness. I'm 73yrs old and I watched Gunsmoke with my Dad since I was 5yrs old. My Dad really liked James Arness. I get channels on my TV and I'm watching all the Westerns like I did with Dad
I'm 73 and I started watching Gunsmoke when I was 5 too. It came on Saturdays at 8:00 PM EST- right after Lawrence Welk, I think.
We watch Gunsmoke on a daily basis. My partner is 88 I am 80. We love it, even repeats are good. We loved the story about James Arness' life. Very interesting. Thank you.
Love Gunsmoke 💘 from the beginning until the last episode, from 10 yrs old until now 78 yrs old
Gunsmoke was one of the best westerns on TV. All of the actors were great.
I am 75 I love Gunsmoke watch it all the time
I loved Gunsmoke and all the characters James Arness especially!
I used to enjoy watching "Gunsmoke" with my grandfather when visiting him.
I enjoyed watching Gunsmoke for many years. The show was so good, you didn't care about his personal life. He was excellent in his role as Marshall Matt Dillion. He and his brother Peter Graves were great actors, I enjoyed Mission Impossible as well. Both series were well made with excellent acting by all on these series. Excellent television.
Love gun smoke watched whenI was a kid and I watch it now I’m over 70 loved James Arnes as Matt Dillon. Also kitty Amanda Blake.plus the rest of the cast.I watch every day.I’m glad it’s still on.😁❤️❤️
Why were there's so much time and pictures on Peter Graves instead of James Arness?
Best Western ever!!!!
I still watch Gunsmoke everyday. I love James Arness and all of the cast members
That’s not true, there was never a ‘riff’ between James and John. John understood exactly the commitments James had with his studio career and family. John didn’t want to make things more stressful on James and more complicated with Mr Stone. And John knew James was dealing some physical challenges.
Yes I know you can see in the shows that he had a disability
WE WATCH GUNSMOKE EVERY DAY, OUR FAVORITE SHOW. GREAT ACTORS ESPECIALLY JAMES ARNESS AND GREAT WRITERS. OLDER SHOWS ARE ALWAYS THE VERY BEST
Always remember watching it with family! Loved the show! All cast members were amazing and loved!
I watch it everyday on Pluto TV, and on METV. Watching it right now as a matter of fact. Best Western EVER!!!!
I enjoy watchung Gunsmoke James Arness was a great actor on that show. Everyone on Gunsmoke were great actors and actresses. His brother was a great actor as well I loved both of them noone was as good as them on the TV showes and in the Movies they also did❤❤❤
Something else i never knew was that Peter Graves was James Arness brother .but now after learning this i definitely see the resemblance to one another .
I always loved Gunsmoke- I grew up with this series - I still watch reruns and enjoy the series 😊
I still love Gunsmoke the only show I watch everyday
Poor narration ….. showing Peter Graves (the younger brother) when talking about James Arness.
They do this all the time. Showing pictures that have nothing to do with what's being said. So frustrating!
I'm 65 and watch Gunsmoke everyday even chapters that i already watched over and over again. Thats how much I love the program. He was the Best ever.
We watch it everynight ❤❤ i am 88 and my partner is 80. Love the less violent shows. Hardly ever watch any gore. We feel like we are part of the town that Dillon runs😊😊😊❤
Love Gunsmoke! Always a favorite!!! All the main characters in show were great! Still watch this show often!!❤
I still like watching gunsmoak and hope they will keep showing those shows it is good for telivission
Thank you for Mr Arness' story he was my favorite along with John Wayne .
I have watched Gunsmoke for decades and I still watch it and still love the show!
Confusing your showing the brother back and forth which one is the commentary about? Lol. They are two different people.
LOL, I grew up watching "Gunsmoke" and his brother "Mission Impossible" , but seriously this desperately needed editing for sure. There is no documentation here of any real " Family finally sets {All) the rumors. Nothing here at all outside of borrowed social media hype, public domain Hollywood. Really? Give a bit of kudos, for personal subscribing efforts and all. But could use serious AI narration work. I'm not convinced to subscribe onto the fine grey line of legality issues concerning the edge of copyright infringements. but fairly done yahoo
I loved Gunsmoke and the cast still do and Iii always watch what's showing today tomorrow and forever ..Never get enough GUNSMOKE..
I feel like you, because I can't get enough of Gunsmoke. Loved all the cast. Matt Dillon was absolutely wonderful to watch.
Gunsmoke should never leave entertainment. I t holds much history in our nation that can educate those interested in our American history based on the stories that have truth. May Gunsmoke live forever.
Children? He only has one that is alive.
i am 82. istill watch gunsmoke. i really like it. it is wholesome entertainment . i really like the main characters. i like the idea of being able to watch gunsmoke anytime. i have never been disappointed
The actor that was cannon on TV was.the voice of Matt Dillon on radio
Arness was 6'7" tall and was drafted into the army.He was first out of the water craft at Anzio Beachhead in Jan 1944. He was severely wounded in right leg during the Battle of Anzio. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Ever notice his limp during the Gunsmoke series?
I for.one.remenbered gun smoke on the radio
GUNSMOKE WAS ''LA LEY DEL REVOLVER'' IN PUERTO RICO AND WE GREW WITH MARSHALL DILLON WHAT AN ICON FOR US KIDS .I AM 71 YEARS OLD NOW AND WATCHED MARSHALL DILLON EVERY DAY.THANKS GOD FOR AMERICAN TELEVISION
Love Gunsmoke ❤ we still watch the reruns ❤️❤️💖💕
Both James and Peter were very handsome, and very good actors.
My Grandmother, who died at age 102, watched Gunsmoke since day one. My Aunt recorded reruns up until her death.. That was the only show she would watch. She would not watch anything else because of language or too racey. I always felt she had a crush on Matt Dillion. When I stayed with her I would watch the reruns with her and fast forward the advertisements. My Grandmother was a Lovely, lovely Southern Lady. Matt Dillion, Gunsmoke, kept her entertained for most of her life!
I love GUNSMOKE. Still watch when I can
What i didn't like about the show was, he was always out of town when it was clear there was trouble waiting to hapen.
I watch gunsmoke everyday one of my favorite shows
Jim & Janet wrote a Christmas letter every year on their website.
Still watch it
GUNSMOKE was retitled GUN LAW for transmission by Independant Television in the UK in the late 1950s and had a different opening sequence.
Wow never knew or heard anything about this .and I thought I kept up with pop culture .which Gun Smoke most definitely had a cult like following all through its life in syndicated television reruns .my father being a couple years older than James was a big time fan of westerns in general but Gunsmoke and John Wayne movies were his favorite .along with the Rifleman and several of the Clint Eastwood spaghetti movies as they were later called due to their cheaply made in South America if I'm not mistaken .they would use all foreign locals as extras and even sometimes co-staring roles where they would do overdubs vocals like in all the Bruce Lee movies both simular in nature as being so cheaply made with the only real lare acting salaries they had to worry about was the main character like Clint Eastwood .those spaghetti westerns made a fortune in syndication and home videos when in fact they were some of the least expensive movies ever made comparable in cost to generic low budget films
The Clint Eastwood spaghetti Westerns were all shot in Italy and Spain.@@johnhagan582
❤I love guns moke I watch it every day handsome & talented❤
I still watch Gunsmoke daily. I am older lady who never had a chance to watch TV in the 60 and 70's, but now make up for lost time. Retired 😭 and watching only good, clean programs like Gunsmoke.
Hi
My childhood hero😊
Ironically, Chester was the one with a bad leg in the series. But in real life, Dennis Weaver almost made the Olympics as a track star. I guess they gave Chester a bum leg to distract from Arness - who really did have one.
I'm 67 years old...grew up with Gunsmoke. Still watch it. James Arness is a hero in my mind. Showing the difference between right and wrong! God bless him!
Well done!I still watch it everyday!GOD BLESS HIM... from Paul Baker
You keep on showing his brother
You’re talking about James and most of the video shows his brother Peter Graves. What’s with that? There’s even a few shots of the Wyatt Earp TV show weird
Me too i loved Gunsmoke
Is that John Denver in the thumbnail?
An added plus the narrator is not even pronouncing his last name correctly I remember watching it and the narrator on the show would say and James Arness as Matt Dillon
Dad's love is forever, I think of my dad. He wasn't an actor.
We watch Gunsmoke averyday
Nice person
Leave these ppl 😅❤❤
It might be nice if he could pronounce his last name right.
Great information. Weird AI voice.
Who is John they are talking about
LOVE GUNSMOKE WATCH IT NEARLY EVERY DAY
Amen
Amen !!!!
Love the content but cannot stand the narrator who often mispronounces words.
Very poignant summary of a poignant character in a poignant series. Might have over used that word a wee bit... Good summary though!
The names are awfully wrongly spelled!!
Who did these terrible subtitles, at least have the names correctly spelled!Furthermore it was a boring narrator who told us everything we already knew!
Does anybody know that John Wayne had shoes specially made for him because his feet small
Who cares!!!.
So whats the title implying.
These stupid titles are useless.
Pretty pathetic-you’re pronouncing his last name incorrectly & couldn’t get through three minutes of this because instead off showing James, some of what you’re showing is actually of his brother. 🙄
Is this a story about James Arness, Peter Graves, or Joseph Cotton? Do you not know the difference? As well, the computer-generated voice can't seem to pronounce "Arness". A really sloppy presentation, made worse by the non-human narration. Did you find it necessary to state that James Arness had a "unique connection to Gunsmoke"??? Who would have guessed. Mr. Arness certainly deserves much better than this incredibly careless "production".
