FILM SYNOPSIS
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Tombstone is a 1993 Western film directed by George P. Cosmatos and starring Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, and Sam Elliott. The movie is a reimagining of the legendary gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona, during the late 19th century.
The film follows the story of Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell), a retired lawman seeking a peaceful life in Tombstone with his brothers Virgil (Sam Elliott) and Morgan (Bill Paxton). However, their plans for a quiet life are disrupted when they encounter a gang of outlaws known as the Cowboys, led by the ruthless Curly Bill Brocius (Powers Boothe) and Johnny Ringo (Michael Biehn).
With the help of the quick-witted and terminally ill gambler Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), the Earp brothers become embroiled in a deadly feud with the Cowboys. The tension escalates, leading to the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, where lawmen and outlaws face off in a fierce battle.
Tombstone is a thrilling and action-packed portrayal of the Wild West, known for its iconic performances, particularly Val Kilmer's charismatic portrayal of Doc Holliday. The film captures the essence of the era's lawlessness, honor, and the enduring legend of Wyatt Earp and the O.K. Corral shootout.

What is your favorite Western film, even your top three! Let us know in the comments below.
BLURRED IMAGE: Dana Delany personally shared an image via her X account (Twitter) showing a picture where she'd bumped her eye with a caption where she joked " You should see the other guy". We thought the picture that Dana shared, and, that countless media outlets and websites have shared, we would share too. Her picture has offended some viewers and we have now blurred it out. If you want to view Dana's image, Dana has it freely available on her X Account or can be found via multiple online sources.
This is my favorite, with unforgiven a close 2nd.😊
#1 Tombstone #2 Outlaw Josey Wales #3 True Grit with Jeff Bridges
I was wondering why her eye was blurred out
Long Riders 1980,Pale Rider,Tombstone
Why not replace the black eye photo with a regular picture.
Val Kilmer should have won an Oscar for his portrayal of Doc Holiday!! He stole the movie!!
Yes, he was the real focus, he was great! I love him!!
The movie was already good but he made it great.
😅 Yes he really had a great part . An all time great movie .
What about the beginning narrative by the late great Robert Mitchum!
I agree totally he should have
In my humble and honest opinion Tombstone is the greatest Western movie of all time!! Everything about it was perfect and Val Kilmer's performance was Oscar worthy.
I think so too John Wayne a5nd Clint Eastwood had some great westerns but tombstone the best Western I've ever seen by far
My top 3: once upon a time in the west, Tombstone, and Outlaw Joseph WLes
How about Unforgiven?
100% agree😊
Unforgiven, High Noon, Once Upon a time in the West, The Searchers, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, Hell or high water, The Stagecoach, The Man who shoot Liberty Wallace, Shane, The Outlaw Josey Wales, 3:10 to Yuma, McCabe & Ms. Miller, Rango; just a suggestion
Russell is the best Earp ever, and Kilmer is by far the best Dr. Holiday ever. Should have won an Academy Award for his portrayal.
Nonsense....Wyatt Earp was much better, and More accurate
Tombstone. I can watch that movie over and over. I've always loved Sam Elliot, but I am absolutely fascinated with Val Kilmer in his portrayal of Doc Holiday. I can't get enough of his wisecracking and smart mouth!❤
Me too Val Kilmer was excellent in it best movie by far
I have watched it probably close to 200 times. As it's on I can do the dialogue. One of my top 2, 3 movies
One of the best western movies made I can watch it over and over again. Val Kilmers roll as Doc Holiday was great.
It’s actually spelled ‘role’ as in to portray someone…when you roll you are tumbling over and over, or a piece of bread served with lunch or dinner…just fyi.
I don't think anyone who has played doc Holliday better than Val Kilmer he was sexy in that movie
Val Kilmer killed it as Doc Holliday. Super performance! He should have won the oscar!
Certainly did!!!
Dana Delaney was the hidden gem in that movie. She is gorgeous and talented. Wish she was in more movies.
Val Kilmer and Michael Biehn were definitely the stars of this classic movie. I remember watching it in the movie theater back in '93. The film gets better with age.
3rd Boothe
Nonsense! Yes to Kilmer, but I would defo have to put Kurt Russell into the mix & powers boothe (RIP) also. Tremendous cast & legendary performances. This was THE mainstream western of the 90's, hands down.
Can't not mention Russel & Boothe, incredible cast all around star studded!
Kurt Russell was definitely the heart and soul of Tombstone. A great actor with great parts in the movie.
There's a tremendous backstory to Russell"s input into the movie, however. When the original director proved unable to direct the movie, Russell stepped in as temporary director until they got another director. Also, when he saw the bloated, voluminous script, Hollywood veteran Russell took it upon himself to cut out about 20 pages of scenes and dialog Fellow actors said that what was cropped out was a lot of Russell's best scenes and dialog.
It was an ensemble cast...cant imagine the movie without any of them...
Val Kilmer , had to reinvent himself to play this role , had to learn how to talk the accent , and his body language towards his rival's. His role in this movie was super excellent
As a southerner who hate’s FAKE southern accents I absolutely approve of Val’s, oddly enough Michael Rooker, Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton and Powers Booth are actually Southern but they talked “cowboy” 😆😆
When the movie came out, I only went to see Sam Elliott. I ended up loving this movie and the cast is just so good. Val Kilmer is the best Doc Holiday ever. Hard to believe it's been 30 years! Tombstone is my favorite Western.
Tombstone!
I’ve probably seen it 15 times and it never gets old.
It’s to the point that I can almost remember every line of the movie. Especially Val Kilmer . That was his best performance as an actor IMO.
Tombstone is by far my favorite Western movie. You couldn't get a better cast of actors if you tried. I must have seen that movie at least 30 times, can recite almost every line.
"I feel just capital" ~Curly Bill Brocius~
You're right. One of the characters in the movie, played by Powers Booth, Curly Bill Brocius, was already a well established actor, like many of the other actors. For some reason, I thought it was a nice little touch that whenever he would laugh in this movie, his tongue would stick out. 😅
Loved Tombstone. My favorite Western.
Tombstone is definitely my favorite western of all time val Kilmer's best role
Tombstone is the best western of all time. There is a Tombstone quote for every situation in life.
Tombstone. Loved Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday and Dana Delany's answer "Room service" when Wyatt asked her what she wanted out of life.
Im 75...my fave movie of alllll time is Tombstone....
I love how Sam Elliot hasn't changed a bit!
Really? You couldn't find a picture of Dana Delany WITHOUT the black eye??????
I'm wondering what happened to her eye. Always such a beauty.
@@jewgirl952 They have now, when I saw it first, they just left it there.
Tombstone is the State of the art of westerns. Especially Val Kilmers outstanding performance as the legendary Doc. Holliday. Val Kilmer really portrayed this southern gentleman, dentist, poker player and deadly gunfighter with such an finger touch and a very sharp eye for the details. I was damn close to say that Val Kilmer is the real Doc. Holliday, well he isn’t of course 😅 but he sure as hell came very close to that historic person
Val should have won an Oscar for this completely outstanding performance…..🎉🎉
My eldest used his lines in school to not get in trouble for swearing. Also did a school report on the real Doc Holiday. She said Val Kilmer was better.
Best Western in my opinion. Val Kilmer was AMAZING as Doc Kirt Russell played an AMAZING Wyatt Earp. The entire cast was AMAZING ❤
Kurt?
Tombstone, The Good the Bad and the Ugly, and Once Upon a Time in the West. Also liked Open Range and 3:10 to Yuma. In my opinion, nobody beats Val Kilmer playing Doc Holliday, and Michael Biehn nailed it as Johnny Ringo. Great movie.
All my choices as well
Those movies you mentioned are all in the top 10 of Westerns. Then you have to look at stagecoach, True Grit , Lonesome Dove my favorite of all my time.
Love Once upon a time in the west. My favorite Western.
When I was a Senior in High School, Bill Paxton was a Junior. We were both going to Arlington Heights High School in Ft. Worth Texas. So I graduated in 1972 and Bill graduated in 1973. I ran into him several times because I dated a girl who was also a Junior and she and Paxton were in the 2 same classes. Small world!
How could you not like him? Loved him in True Lies. Just seemed so likable
My sister and her whole class got meet them all. While they were doing the scenes in Old Tucson. Val Kilmer was the first one to start interacting with them. After him it was Bill Paxton. I just thought it was funny how many movies both Michael Biehn and him. Had been in together.
Wow I’m surprised you didn’t list Titanic as Billy Zane’a most notably film. Favorite western John Wayne’s True Grit.
Val Kilmer, the all time best
My 3 favorite westerns.
1. The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly
2. Unforgiven
3. Tombstone
Honorable Mention- Big Jake & The Magnificent 7 (1960 version)
I have seen them all countless times.
The original True Grit with John Wayne. So many favorites I can't just pick 3.
❤
Lonesome Dove with Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones.
Having a top 3 is tough. I would probably replace Unforgiven with The Outlaw Josey Wales.
Amazing!!! Those are my top 3 as well. You have good taste lmao! 😂
It’s been probably 15 years since I’ve seen this movie. I didn’t realize how star studded the cast was until now. Seems everyone you showed I’ve seen at some point or another. Such an amazing line up of actors and actresses.
Il'll agree with your assessment. When I first saw Tombstone, everything in it stood out, as if the actors were completely authentic and totally believable playing out their roles. It's not surprising to see that most of these actors had alot of previous experience in their careers.
Tombstone , high noon, the hanging tree, shane
This is my most favorite movie of all time! Love love love Kurt & Val! They brought sexy back!
Tombstone.Greatest western ever made.
Kilmer stole the show with his portrayal of Doc Holiday.

Johnny tyler! Where you going with that shotgun! Val! I didnt know you was back in town! I FORGOT YOU WERE THERE, YOU AY GO NOW, "" LEAVE IT"" THANK YA--
I agree. I think Val Kilmer should have won an award for Doc Holliday and that is my favorite movie.
val kilmer as doc holliday....absolutely superb
The Outlaw Josey Wales or the original The Quick and the Dead with Sam Elliot. Love him. Huge crush on Sam growing up.
Didn't we all have a huge crush on SE- still do...
@judy9123 There's just something about Sam🥰
In my opinion Tombstone was one of the greatest westerns ever, star studded cast, excelent portrayals!
FAVE western movie is and always has been Tombstone. That's why I listened to this until the end.
All time favorite western. My dad loved them and we watched tons together on TV and at the movies. I've tried to keep the love alive with my own kids. We quote lines from Tombstone in our regular conversations. 😊
Tombstone hands down!❤️❤️👏🏽👏🏽
My favourite western are:- Shane, The Big Country, McKenna’s Gold, The good, the bad and the ugly, Tombstone, Open Range., My Darling Clementine.. Many more besides. Fantastic genre.
Shane is a great one that often gets overlooked.

Tombstone has always been my favorite western. Val Kilmer was my favorite in the movie.
Great western movie..Best western movie of all time..Val Kilmer and Michael Beihn were great..Both should had been nominated best actors..
Once upon a Time in the West to me, it is the greatest cowboy classic movie!
Once upon a Time in the West had some great scenes in it but stank of the 1970s.
This is my favorite western. I've watched it every time it's on TV.
I agree with Kevenyson Val Kilmer should have gotten an Academy Awared. He was outstanding in that movie. God bless them all🕊🙏🏼✝️
The best western I ever saw.
One of the greatest movies. Really enjoyed this clip. Thank you😊
Tombstone, The Outlaw Josy Wales, Pale Rider, Open Range, how Val Kilmer got passed over for an Oscar is a crime. I'd also have to say Nevada Smith, the old and the new Mag 7 and the old and new 3:10 to Yuma. And with that Daisy I will pass from your life forever.
I just can't boil it down to three, but here are a few:
1. Tombstone
2.True Grit (John Wayne)
3. McKlintock
4. Bend of the River
5. Shane
6. 3:10 to Yuma
7.High Noon
8. Oklahoma
9. Stagecoach
10. Once Upon a Time in the West
There are so many more and if I make another list later today, my top ten might be totally different, be blessed everyone!
Henry Fonda made a great cowboy. One of his best to me is "My Name Is Nobody."
I always forget how many actors are in this movie, some of them I didn't even know where in the we're in the movie. Kind of a refresher video.
Sam Elliot and Val Kilmer deservedly be recognized for their acting
Absolutely the best western I’ve ever seen!
1. One-Eyed Jacks...with Marlon Brando and Carl Malden

One of the best movies of the Tombstones movies ever made. I have seen them all ..😊
Some of these actors are well known to me. I had no idea that was them. They looked so different. This is my favorite Western. Then El Diablo, El Dorado, The Outlaw Josie Wales and Free Range. So many more. Oh Quigly Down Under.
Quigley was good. I enjoyed that movie. Especially the end when Quigley takes care of the villians.
My fav western of all time. Tombstone. Love Val Kilmer is this movie, outstanding! He carried the movie a great acting job, the best ever.
I want one. My favorite line in Tombstone.
i can see my feet. i'm your huckleberry. alright longer, lets do it.
This was one of the few movies my whole family went to see.
My sister was in the movie. She’s the blond all gussied up standing behind Russell when he was dealing cards and Doc was mocking the Johnny Ringo whipping his silver cup around. She had about 3 min screen time. So cool
My favorite ❤🎉😊 Western Movie of all time is Tombstone ❤😊😂❤🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤!!!
Tombstone, that's why I watched this ,nice job
"The Searchers" is my favorite Western. "Rio Bravo" is my second favorite Western. And "Tombstone" is my third favorite Western. Thanks for this update video showing us how the performers in Tombstone have aged over the years. They are (and were) all excellent actors and actresses.
Mine too..
Check out the 1968 western "Firecreek", with Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda, and (the beautiful) Inger Stevens! It shot up to my top 3 of all time the moment I first saw it. I've since watched it too many times to admit here. Seriously, it's very good and different than most other westerns. It's similar to "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", also starring Jimmy Stewart, but with John Wayne and Lee Marvin.
Yes and try to get a pic of Dana without a black eye this time, bless her heart she is still beautiful
"The Searchers" is my favorite. I've seen it at least 30 times.
Yeah, as much as I love Tombstone and Open Range the Searchers ,for me, is the greatest of all time. So much so my wife and I made a sojourn to Monument Park
Silverado, The Quick and the Dead, and Tombstone are my favorite "modern" westerns.
RIP, Powers Boothe and Bill Paxton.
You both were fine actors.
Pretty tough call. But I liked the rivalry between Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo. As for the actors and actress, they all did a superb acting in the rolls played. I love the movie and watch it often. There have been other Tombstone movies made by top actors, but none have captured the passion and drama of the O.k. I consider TOMBSTONE a classic. FIVE STARS.
Sam Elliot is like a fine wine, he just gets better with age.
Favorite westerns; El Dorado, Shootist, Cowboys, Pale Rider, Tombstone, Wyatt Earp.
Loved this movie! It is my favorite western.
Lonesome Dove best western drama series ever
Finally !!!!!!!! Don't get me wrong, Tombstone was great also ......... my top two 😀
My favorite three Westerns: Hombre (Paul Newman); The Shootist (John Wayne); The Stalking Moon (Gregory Peck). Glad you asked.
1. Once Upon A Time In The West
2. The Good , The Bad , & The Ugly
3. Tombstone
4. Young Guns
5. The Quick & The Dead
3 of my favorite westerns, along with this one, are The Big Country, The Searchers, and Silverado.
Tombstone is definitely my best Western ever hands down, and some of the best actors, I didn't even recognize them until just now that's damn good 👍
BRILLIANT CAST OF TOOMB STONE..LOVE IT...❤❤❤❤❤❤
the best dam Western ever. My favorite movie ever. and val kilmer was the best doc holiday.
My favorite three westerns: Monty Walsh with Lee Marvin and Jack Palance, The Big Country with Gregory Peck and Charlton Heston, and Red River with John Wayne and Montgomery Cliff. Runner up is The Cowboys with John Wayne.
Let us not forget Kilmer’s role in Lonesome Dove , Tombstone is one of the greatest Western movies of the modern era
Yep. Val killed it! He should've won something for that role. Absolutely brilliant!
I'm your Huckleberry!😎 🔫
1) The Shootist
2) Tombstone (Val Kilmer was sensational).
3) McClintock
You didn't ask, but favorite movie of all time: The Quiet Man.
The Quiet Man was set in Ireland. I wouldn't list it as a Western, but I adore that movie
My 3 Favorites, The Searchers, Shane, and Tombstone
Tombstone is without a doubt the best Western Movie ever made. I already knew that before I recently learned how extreme this production became at using the most authentic props possibly available.
When it comes down to it for me, I realize, years later, what made this movie great was the directing of an unbelievable cast. They all gave a great performance. Believe me I've seen this movie so many times I've had time to watch everybody. No slackers!
My favorite western is Tombstone!! My second favorite is The Outlaw Josey Wales!
Bill Paxton died too young. By all accounts he was a genuinely nice fella that never let fame get to his head.
A overlooked western is "Silverado". It actually helped bring the western back to the big screen.
I first noticed Paxton playing Chet in Weird science! He stood out in every film!I'd forgotten his minor roll at the start of Terminator1.
Pale Rider was another one that helped bring back the western. It came out the same year that Silverado did.
@@kevinmalone3210 10-Roger. Great movie too.
@@kevinmalone3210 I,l, take Jose Wales over all of them!Sorry to get off subject.😆👍
LOVE Tombstone so much!!! Perfect movie--it has ALL the best actors of the time period and some greats from earlier time periods in it; KURT RUSSEL!! SAM ELLIOT!!, Harry Carey Jr!! Buck Taylor!!! CHARLTON HESTON!! OMG!! Bill Paxton--Miss him so much, POWERS BOOTH!!! Michael Biehn!! Jason Priestly!! oh and the REST OF THE CAST!!! they were all PERFECTLY AWESOME!!! It has been bugging me FOR EVER who the extremely annoying bully at the bar playing cards was NOW I KNOW!!! shoulda known then--I did but couldn't place him b/c I've never seen him any way but SKINNY SKINNY and he was NOT skinny in this movie. Did Billy BOB gain weight for the roll of the bully? I so loved his come down by WYATT!!! It was worth enduring him to see Wyatt put him out of our misery. (ignore the illegal punctuation errors, Science is my specialty) Gotta watch this movie AGAIN if it's not worn out by now.
Mag 7 with the best actor Yul B... Tombstone... Unforgiven. Just plain amazing.
Best Western i have ever seen! Still holds up today 🤩
What a stellar cast that was. The film was a masterpiece and the duality between Kilmer’s Doc Holiday and Biehn’s Johnny Ringo was a dance Faust himself would have approved of.
Unforgiven. Tombstone. The lives and Times of Judge Roy Bean
My 3 favourite Western movies are.
Mackenas Gold.
The Professionals.
The Good The Bad and The Ugly.
I have several favorite westerns, Rio Bravo, High Noon, The Shootist, Tombstone, Wyatt Earp, and Open Range. The last one, Open Range, would be tied with Tombstone for top of my short list. Before those two came out, it would have been The Shootist.
My best western, Tombstone, absolutely great.
Must have been a fun set, almost everyone was about the same age.
Tall in the Saddle, Tombstone, Pale Rider my top three westerns
Best western movie of all time!!!
