The absolute Highlight of my career was working with Dennis Weaver, 6 nights a week, in a Theater Show in Ouray, Colorado, just 10 miles from Ridgway. He did a 10 minute bit as Chester teaching the audience how to play the guitar. He had done that bit in Gunsmoke, teaching Miss Kitty how to play it. I never grew tired of it. Our first day of rehearsal, he did a line and turned to me and said, "Did I do that alright?" I was stunned! Why would this veteran Actor ask me? That's how real he was. No ego whatsoever. I still miss him. His son, Rusty and I played in the Band "Free Range Cats" for about 3 years. Rusty is a consummate Musician/Songwriter/Producer, and a great guy as well. Some of my favorite memories.
Thank you. Very interesting and sad how Amanda Blake died. She was such a great actress. My love for James Arness will be forever as every female fell for this gentle giant. Thanks to All the Gunmoke actors who gave us so much entertainment for 20 great years!
My 1st actor crush was"Hoss" from Bonanza. I Never, ever trusted, n or was attracted to, the 'pretty boys'. Never cared for Michael Landon who became very religious, but seemed (to me) in a non-humble, arrogant way. Interesting that his daughter plays "Teeter", the pink hair, Very foul mouth girl (Only girl in bunk house, at first), In the series named "Yellowstone".
I’m also a true fan of Gunsmoke and all the actors .. My late husband got me hooked on Gunsmoke and still today at my age of soon to b 83 years I watch it on insp nighty!

Thank you for this wonderful documentary Mr. Skinner. My partner and best friend loved to watch Gunsmoke. He once told me it was the only night of the week his Grandpa stayed up late to watch his favorite show. On April 2, 2020 my friend had supper and sat down in his easy chair in front of his T.V. and watched his favorite show, Gunsmoke! Bless his heart, I do believe he had every episode memorized. Gunsmoke was one of my most favorite western shows on tv and it was such a trip down memory lane and this show really makes me have fond memories when I was a child watching it. These shows were of real wholesome family value and viewing and were not superficial like series now.

Best TV show of all time, best western of all time, best cast of all time. Thanks for the excellent vid. I still watch Gunsmoke episodes and never get tired of them.
The I/2 hour show which had not been shown for years are the best , they include Chester. The older 1 hour segment include Festus, one of my favorites.
I have been a big fan of Gunsmoke from the very first time I saw it on channel 11 back in the mid 1970's. That was back when channel 11 was an independent station when all the stations went off the air at about 12:30AM. I have watched just about every Western series there ever was on TV and Gunsmoke has always been and probably will always be my top #1 favorite Western for the rest my life. I will always be a big fan of Gunsmoke for the rest of my life. Thank you for all the memories. Keith(Mr Hillbilly)
Thank you so much for this opportunity to see the history of my favorite actors and TV program ❤️ The characters 💙 ❤️ in Gunsmoke were from the start 1955 part of my heartfelt family.. My dad and I watched the program together every week.. To this day Marshal Dillon is my HERO as a man, cowboy and companion.. I am 80 years old. Thanks again, Phyllis Gibson..❤
A large part of my growing up was watching Gunsmoke. This TV show was the part of my growing up more than any other TV show or movie. James Arness and the other actors are a part of Americana and will always be a part.
My hubby watches Gunsmoke every night on the oldies channel. He sometimes tells me what happened on the episode. I ask him one time if he knew that was a TV show and not real life. He laughed and admitted he knew. Gunsmoke is the best show and has a super cast.
This video story of Gunsmoke was fantastic. It really made my day. I was born in 1957 and graduated High School in 1975, the year Gunsmoke had run its course. My dad was in love with all the cowboy shows like Gunsmoke and Bonanza and this show is wrapped around my entire childhood. I still love spending a rainy afternoon watching Gunsmoke reruns. You did a great job narrating and telling the story. Thanks!
Exact same here. Born in `57 and graduated in `75 and grew up watching Gunsmoke, Rifleman and the others. I met Ken Curtis once when I was a kid and and showed up in his Fetus costume and was one of the nicest people I ever met. Truly made me a bigger fan than I already was.
I still watch all those old shows everyday thank God for MEtv , I love them all . Gun smoke , the waltons , the rifleman , bonanza , wagon train , Carole burnett ect.. the list goes on . They’re very different then what we have now, parents could easily watch television with their children rated PG free. Life before Botox, social media and filters loll the simplicity was priceless.
Dear Sir, your video is one of the nicest and loveliest spoken videos ever. How much time you must have spent in all of this... It´s so sweet to know something more about my childhood-heroes.... Not forgetting to mention Star Trek, Shilo Ranch, The Waltons, Detective Rockfort, In the Streets of San Francisco and more... This was all entertainment!!!
Thank for doing this. Really enjoyed watching and listening to this presentation. You did an excellent job. I loved Gunsmoke when I was young and still enjoy watching even now They were all great actors and actresses.
Mr. Jerry Skinner, you did a wonderful job here telling the story of the people that starred in the cast of Gun Smoke! You always do a outstanding job documenting your stories. Thank you for your work!
What a genuine in-depth biography of the cast of Gunsmoke. Excellent work. Gunsmoke is genuine Americana ingrained into the memories and lives of those who grew up in the Baby Boomer generation. The directors had an excellent discernment of picking the cast of Gunsmoke. Each of the actors/actresses "owned their characters" standing on their own in the series. They weren't "extras" or "side-kick" characters. Great human beings as well.
I love this show ! I was 5 years old when it started and 25 when it went off the air . They just don’t make them like that any more ! I still watch the re-runs !
Thank you, I found it very interesting. It's nice to know that friendships were made within the cast members. Just added a little more dimension and personality to the series.
Another fine production, Mr. Skinner. Thank you. And may I add, for those who may not know, Ken Curtis was one of the greatest actors America ever produced, in my opinion. See the character he played in the Searchers and compare it to the character of Festus Hagan--the difference is profound. His range as an actor was extraordinary. Curtis's invention of the character of Festus Hagan is more than an actor's art and craft. The invention is closer to a metaphysical channeling of one soul to another, or one soul to the amalgam of all those men's souls who settled the west. To me, Festus Hagan is the embodiment of a type, the sum total, in one man, of all the tough, hard-bitten men who tamed and settled the west. Festus Hagan, as portrayed by Ken Curtis, is almost scary in its true-to-life, three dimensionality. I'd give a lot of money, if I had it, to know the story of how Mr. Curtis conceived and developed the persona of Festus Hagan. If I had to guess, Mr. Curtis probably knew a guy in real life who served as the model for the character of Festus. And if so, that fellow was one bad ass hombre.
I do watch Gunsmoke everyday, to me , Gunsmoke and Perry Mason will always be the best on TV. I cannot get enough of them. May they rest in piece and thanks for the memories.
Loved Gunsmoke so dang much, I named my registered Doberman Ms. Kitty Mae. My son's name is Matthew. Kitty Mae was his first dog. When Ms. Kitty had pups, the name Doc Adams was already registered. So I chose the name "Doc Adams, Festus, Newly" for my new pup!
I don't think we ever missed an episode. Loved this show!! I suddenly feel old for some reason.... we had the best programming in the 60's and 70's! It was another world compared to today, families actually sat down and ate at the same table, and then at the tv for their favorite show's, with actual mom's and dad's there too!!
I continue to start my mornings watching "Wagon Train" & then "Gunsmoke" for several hours. I'm now fully house-bound due to several failed spinal fusions. Both shows help distract me from the Pain & Boredom of Not being able to still live my life to the fullest.
I was truly touched by this documentary, I grew up watching Gun smoke, my favorite TV show of my life, my next favorite "Have Gun Will Travel" was on right after and my dad let me stay up 1/2 hr past my bed time so I could see it also. Those were the care free days for me and I`m sure for millions of others around my age (72). These shows were part of what made life worthwhile, ( along with horseradish and hot sauce of course) !
Thank you so much for this documentary... I loved it that you would take the time to put this information together and make it possible for folks to see some of the inside stories of the lives of these actors and actresses and help make them feel even closer to my heart than when watching them for so many years. We've looked for decent shows to watch minus the blood, guts and gore that is ever-present on TV. We've always come back to Gunsmoke hoping to see its availability. Your documentary helped make the characters feel even more like family somehow.... longtime friends in a way, and it was sad to hear when they passed. Beautifully done!!! It was a treat today to watch this after the episode...
Thanks a million for this tribute. Good people all. A lot of heart. Glad for the mention of Glenn Strange, whom I remembered from early Long Ranger episodes. And it's worth looking up Ken Curtis singing "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" etc. "Gunsmoke" and its cast taught Americans great lessons, ones almost lost now.
Aug 6 2019 Im 60 years old now ive been watching Gunsmoke as a kid and still enjoy watching , they grew up with me like family thru the years of watching
I'll be 61 next month and those were the best shows for free. Now a days, you pay an arm and a leg for cable and you get crap. Now a days you're see cowboys at the counter with cell phones. LOL
I am about to turn 60 and I watched Gunsmoke with my parents growing up. When I was a little girl, "Gunsmoke" came on every Saturday night. My mama would bake a homemade pecan pie and brew coffee while my dad would paste wax our floors and buff them out...then it was time to sit down to eat pie and watch Gunsmoke together. Good memories. It comes on here 8 times a day...and I have them set on DVR so I can watch each episode from the beginning. We watch it every night. I am still on the early season with Chester.
Jerry, thanks for this documentary. Gunsmoke - Saturday night 10PM CBS. There was none to compare. We seldom ever missed an episode, and loved them all. Again, thanks for sharing.
This is a wonderful video about my favorite ever TV show. When the early episodes aired, there was no gunfight in the street with Matt and the bad guy. The opening scene in the early episodes was a closeup of a right hand holding a Colt .45 type revolver, firing several times, producing lots of gun smoke. That led into Matt at Boot Hill and his words of wisdom. The gunfight opening scenes came later. I didn't see anyone eating at the Dodge House. The favorite place for the characters to eat was Delmonico's restaurant, which drew constant complaints from the characters about Delmonico's.
I loved them all! I was born the same year gunsmoke did its last episode. So i grew up watching theses wonderful people acting out there even wonderful characters. They will forever be a part of me an i am honored to have been able to watch this show growing up. Today i still watch the show every morning an evening. Will probably watch it till i die. Bringing good memories an good feelings to the heart every episode.
That was beautiful. I fancied myself a true Gunsmoke aficionado, past tense. I thank you Mr. Skinner as I stand humbled by your work and the gracious tribute you gathered on these fine people.
Really enjoyed it. Met Doc Adams at one of his houses in the San Fernando Valley while delivering mail for the US Post office for one summer as I was just out of the military and making some money to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo CA. He was as grouchy as he was on Gun Smoke.
Thank you for a full history of all these wonderful actors. Gunsmoke's great appeal was the fact that it did not over glamourise gun fights and the characters seemed quite amazingly natural.
Amen , wonderful amazing story of each Castmember. So much history. I still watch all Gunsmoke Series and 7 movies & John Wayne movies.Love the Westerns and I'm almost 80. Thank you for your hard work on this.
Loved this background story of GUN SMOKE. Watched it every Saturday night with my Mom & Dad. Right after it came, PALLIDIN, then RIFLEMAN. Fond memories. We always had a pop and a chocolate bar to watch our 3 shows. My Mom & Dad would have loved to hear all about this cast of Gun Smoke.
I pray they or sitting down in a heavenly saloon laughing and talking. . You know festus is talking the most and Doc is starring at him with that look. Kitty will be by Matt . Rest In Peace.
Ever since I was a little kid in Iraq .. One of my favorite shows was gun smoke .. Now that I am in my beloved America .. I enjoy watching gun smoke all the time.. Thank you Jerry.. Good stuff...
Fantastic job u did on this. Gunsmoke is one of my favorite shows that I like to watch over & over. Love all the characters & enjoy recognizing actors that are well known today. Thank you for this video, sadly as it is I hate to hear of the passing of all of them. I know there will be people who will enjoy this show for years & years & appreciate it as much as we do today.
Nice and informative video. A great series that I never get tired of watching. These actors and actresses made great personal sacrifices to make "Gunsmoke" one if the greatest T.V. series, of all time, that it became. They played their parts well, even when undergoing personal tragedies in their personal lives. This shows the strength of character that these actors and actresses had and is sorely missed in today's T.V. series. Their acting skills transported you to a different time and place effortlessly, and their interaction with each other was magical and allowed their acting to show through that era's (1880's Dodge city) realism. All in all, they are greatly missed but are still enjoyed and appreciated through their acting and career achievements.
What do I have to say is one saying that is the best those old westerns all comedies all the rest was today is really bad that bad news I haven't watch TV in 20 years seems everything is nothing but bad news even today with all the trash on TV I still think about the old programs TV to me is not TV anymore
I watched 'Gunlaw' and later 'Gunsmoke' through my youth in the UK. It was always my favourite programme and was, in my opinion, streets ahead of the other westerns. Still miss it whenever we talk about years that have gone by. Roy Winfield. England.
I am only 10 minutes into your video and I am blown away by the unbelievable amount of information that you're able to provide. All of your videos are remarkable and I just want to say thank you for sharing your knowledge. I had forgotten just how much Gunsmoke was a part of my life, it was always there, it was always wonderful and always entertaining. Have I said thank you yet? Just can't say it enough I guess...Thank You again!!!!!
I'm 46 years old and suffered a bad injury in a car accident. I'm still not fully recovered but I watch Gunsmoke every single day... Still haven't seen all the episodes but I've seen all the Rifleman episodes. They sure don't make em like they used to
Thank you for your work on these excellent actors who have meant so much to our lives on, "Gunsmoke." I enjoyed it immensely since I grew up watching each week and now watching the reruns with my husband. They are the highlights of our evenings. We dearly love Marshall Dillon and the other characters as if they are part of our extended family. Thank you, Mr. Skinner for a great video.
Amazing documentary. My entire family watched Gun Smoke the entire duration of the show. Great family show even today. God Bless the creator and all people involved making the Gunsmoke legion. God Bless
Jerry, your work on You Tube is always exceptional but your Gunsmoke post is outstanding. The video half is also wonderful. Many thanks for your fine work. Once I asked the great director, Frank Capra, whom I knew, "what was behind the great, enduring success of Gunsmoke?" He calmly responded,, "Why, Raul. it was always a love story...the man loved his home, his horse, his girl, etc." Thinking back I realized he was spot on. Thanks again, Jerry.
Thank you Mr. Skinner for Blessed Memories that shall last 'forever'. Your' distinctive style, voice and directorial screen-play are unique and very 'special' Father Drucker
Mr Skinner I always enjoy all your videos. I too grew up with Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Lone Ranger etc etc TV back then was wonderful and exciting. I love going down "Memory Lane" a by gone era that today's youth will never sadly experience. What great actors and stories. Thank you.
I remember growing up watching it on TV in the sixties!! Back then after my chores completed I would sit in front of the TV waiting for it to come on. Of course there were other great shows/ movies back then I loved to watch, but now its not the same.

My dad and I watched the program together every week.. To this day Marshal Dillon is my HERO as a man, cowboy and companion.. I am 80 years old. Thanks again, Phyllis Gibson..❤
Thank you Phyllis for taking the time to watch. You make my day. Jerry
Thanks!
Me also.....born the same year graduated in 75😆...AND LOVE GUNSMOKE TILL THIS DAY.....LOVED ME SOME MATT & FESTUS 😁
D
Same here as well!
Amen
Exact same here. Born in `57 and graduated in `75 and grew up watching Gunsmoke, Rifleman and the others. I met Ken Curtis once when I was a kid and and showed up in his Fetus costume and was one of the nicest people I ever met. Truly made me a bigger fan than I already was.
I am watching all the reruns of this show. The acting, actors, and writers are all top-notch! What an excellent series!
I love d so much but what happen to the. Indain man who work ed in the stable s i can't remember his name but he was sooo cute.
Couldn't said it better
Absolutely...me too..and I do watch them every day....and it truly pisses me off when I miss any of those shows.
Okay
don't leave Fury off your list, the story of a horse and the boy who loved him also starred Bobby Diamond.
Me i love gunsmoke and rifleman the better show
Dear Sir, your video is one of the nicest and loveliest spoken videos ever.
I loved Gunsmoke when I was young and still enjoy watching even now
They were all great actors and actresses.
Mr. Jerry Skinner, you did a wonderful job here telling the story of the people that starred in the cast of Gun Smoke! You always do a outstanding job documenting your stories. Thank you for your work!
Hi Pat, How are you doing today?
Same here
Thank you, I found it very interesting. It's nice to know that friendships were made within the cast members. Just added a little more dimension and personality to the series.
I grew up watching "Gunsmoke" when I was a kid back in the 1960's. It was my favorite show on TV. Thanks so much for sharing this great video.
Will never be any one as GREAT as James Arness. The Best Of the Best 🌵💥🌵💥 R I P Matt, We Miss You 🌵💥🌵💥
Another fine production, Mr. Skinner.
Real people
Ken Curtis was quite a character, and a good singer, follow him on UTube , he sings tumbling tumble weed ! A real classic !
@@patrickcoyle796 Thanks for the heads up, Mr. Coyle. I'll definitely look into that.
I concur sir. 100%
I do watch Gunsmoke everyday, to me , Gunsmoke and Perry Mason will always be the best on TV. I cannot get enough of them. May they rest in piece and thanks for the memories.
Don't forget The Rifleman.
Loved Gunsmoke so dang much, I named my registered Doberman Ms. Kitty Mae.
My son's name is Matthew. Kitty Mae was his first dog.
When Ms. Kitty had pups, the name Doc Adams was already registered. So I chose the name
"Doc Adams, Festus, Newly" for my new pup!
This is the best narration, and biography of actors in a series caught in a nutshell I've had the pleasure to watch
This is one of the best documentaries on UA-cam. Great work!
Great documentary!
I was watching 👀 gun. Smoke every sent I was a child and still watching it expose still come on might of fact that all I watch is western

Hello!! How are you doing today! Please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan!...Stay safe
I continue to start my mornings watching "Wagon Train" & then "Gunsmoke" for several hours. I'm now fully house-bound due to several failed spinal fusions. Both shows help distract me from the Pain & Boredom of Not being able to still live my life to the fullest.
I know. And it isn't just nostalgia. So much really was leagues better than now. I wish my children could have had what I did.
Here I am watching it still today. Gunsmoke lives on.
Really enjoyed this! Gunsmoke was my favorite western? I loved all the characters, especially James Arness!!
I could listen to your voice all day !!
Thank you Daniel, we are the same age and we have a lot in common. Thank you. Jerry
Oh yes !! Richard BOONE.. PALIDON (name maybe misspelled)...but loved the man in black 😁
Love the show....& I haven't reached 65 YET....😆
I remember Steve McQueen in "Wanted - Dead or Alive", Robert Culp in "Trackdown", and Nick Adams in "The Rebel." Great shows!
Right on
Thank you so much for this documentary...
I grew up watching Gunsmoke. Thank you for this enjoyable, informative walk down memory lane.
Hello Connie, How are you doing?
Thanks a million for this tribute. Good people all. A lot of heart. Glad for the mention of Glenn Strange, whom I remembered from early Long Ranger episodes. And it's worth looking up Ken Curtis singing "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" etc.
"Gunsmoke" and its cast taught Americans great lessons, ones almost lost now.
Thank you James. Jerry
James Robiscoe Glenn Strange also played Frankenstein's monster.
Jerry Skinner the possession of Mark King the possession of Mark King
James Robiscoe I thought that the early episodes were called " Marshall Dillion" ? Or was that just for syndication?

Im 60 years old now ive been watching Gunsmoke as a kid and still enjoy watching , they grew up with me like family thru the years of watching
Yup im 62 and grew up watching them still watching them
Me too. I watched the shows with my dad.
Rest in peace to all the actor's and actresses who played on GUNSMOKE.THEY MADE LIFE WORTH LIVING.THANK ALL OF YOU.Thank You for Posting.

Gunsmoke - Saturday night 10PM CBS.
There was none to compare. We seldom ever missed an episode, and loved them all.
Again, thanks for sharing.
Loved watching these shows. It’s so interesting to learn what they did in their personal lives.
Hello!!! How are you doing today! Please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you're a fan!....Stay safe
Enjoyed watching this program very much! Very Well Done
Hi how are you doing
What a great documentary, I grew up watching Gunsmoke and wish we could go back to those great times.
Hi Ian how are you doing
The cast of Gunsmoke was part of my family for the entire 20 years. This was a marvelous video!
What a show. Puts me to sleep every night. Great cast.
Jerry Skinner, I could listen to him all day long. His info. intensifies my love for these old shows in wich I still enjoy today.
I still love and watch Gunsmoke. I am 82 years old.
He reports all details. Love his show.
We still see it once a week, never get tired of it. WE HAVE BEEN WATCHING IT FOR YEARS.
Hello Helen, How are you doing?

That was beautiful. I fancied myself a true Gunsmoke aficionado, past tense. I thank you Mr. Skinner as I stand humbled by your work and the gracious tribute you gathered on these fine people.
Absolutely love Gunsmoke. one of my favorite westerns.
Appreciate the video, I’ve watched Gunsmoke when I was little kid and I’ve been watching the reruns recently.
Great job with this Assignment. Do I remember All of these Talented Individuals. When We Were Young, thank you for sharing!

This is a model for all other presentations on UA-cam. Perfectly done.
Thank you Gary, you made my day. Jerry

Well done documentary. Still love watching Gunsmoke to this day.
Thanks again Mr. Skinner, for a very well done documentary. I remember watching Gunsmoke growing up. One the best shows. Thank you so much.
I watched 'Gunlaw' and later 'Gunsmoke' through my youth in the UK. It was always my favourite programme and was, in my opinion, streets ahead of the other westerns. Still miss it whenever we talk about years that have gone by. Roy Winfield. England.
Thank you Roy. Jerry
I grew watching gunsmoke , love all the actors
Hello Paula, How are you doing?
Excellent. Brought back good memories of my childhood. My grandmother and I use to watch Gunsmoke together.
I am only 10 minutes into your video and I am blown away by the unbelievable amount of information that you're able to provide. All of your videos are remarkable and I just want to say thank you for sharing your knowledge. great stuff, nice and informative. I'm surprised you didn't add Burt Reynolds to the documentary
I'm 46 years old and suffered a bad injury in a car accident. I'm still not fully recovered but I watch Gunsmoke every single day... Still haven't seen all the episodes but I've seen all the Rifleman episodes. They sure don't make em like they used to

The worst one is the British male voice. It sounds like a robot.
I enjoyed this video. It told about the actors as well as the part they played in Gunsmoke.
Thank you Raul. Frank had it right, what else could a man ask for?. Thank you again Raul. Jerry

Thanks for all the Great Westerners of the past. Can't stomach the garbage on tv today!
Most stuff today centers around sex drugs violence, not everything, but very brazen.
Buck Taylor has a facebook page check it out,he is often in Fort Worth Texas.
I remember growing up watching it on TV in the sixties!! Back then after my chores completed I would sit in front of the TV waiting for it to come on. Of course there were other great shows/ movies back then I loved to watch, but now its not the same.
