Heads up for anyone who’s coloring at home but shopping at Sally’s beauty!
I went in the other day with full knowledge about the fact that for brunette the only way to tone is with a deposit only solution and they sell a Eq shades generic version of this as well as a gloss. I found the gloss but couldn’t locate the solution so the worker said “you could use a 20v or 10v it’s the same thing” I had to explain to her that it isn’t and that a deposit only is the only way I won’t be left with orange hair so be careful y’all the workers there don’t actually know the deal. Listen to the professionals like this beauty above.

Basically 10vol is deposit only because 10vol does no lifting to the hair. 20,30,40 lift the hair.

    • @Indielizard711
      @Indielizard711 Рік тому +7

Yeah I was told the opposite that I can only use their solution, and got both, basically If you’re applying it to wet/damp hair it brings the 10vol developer down to a 8 which is what the processing solution is.

I was told at Sally’s to use a 20 vol, but thankfully I had watched another video that said 10vol was best for deposit only. Now that I know that I have to get a darker color I will purchase it to get the best result.

So, if you are a brunette you shouldn't have lighter brown (baby)highlights? Is my conclusion correct? Because I have brown hair, and I got baby highlights in a lighter shade of brown... but I get this problem of getting orangy parts in my hair (which I hate!). I do use a purple shampoo that the salon recommended me to use.

It depends on how long you keep it on your hair - and what level of developer your using. If your using bleach and want to go lighter you need a higher level developer and leave on your hair longer . The best way is to cut a test strand , bleach it wrap in foil and watch the timer. As it develops & gets closer to the color you want make sure to write down the time. So when do it on your hair use same time. You will probably want to do a toner after you hi-light your hair. Hope that helps.

My hair was BOTCHED and I mean badly by a stylist putting low lights and root smudge using a permanent color. I was perfect highlighted blonde with just using bleach highlights and simple tone on my level 5.5 hair. Took me 2 years to try to get orange out and did so damaging my hair and being darn near solid blonde blonde (from many stylists trying). So, after that ordeal, I finally have my hair with lots of regrowth and go see a new girl. I explained NEVER perm in my hair ever! She did a great job first time and I was finally happy...so I thought! Next time, 9wks later I go back to her and because I was more solid blonde (from issues before) she wanted some lowlights to bring down a bit. Yeah, sound good, but ONLY with Semi or I will just wait! Well, what do you know...she puts that darn perm color in hair and sure enough lifts all that regrowth to that perfect shade of copper that I HATE so much. So, here I am again growing hair back out and only doing straight highlights/toner but I can NOT get the mid part of my hair gone of the copper! Near 3 years of tears!

I recently had a similar situation where the hair stylist was shocked my hair took on such a golden color, was going for a pale cool blonde. However, now I have to deal with a more honey, golden with some pale highlights. I mean, it's nice but not the look I was going for. My question is why do so many "good" hair stylists have trouble with lifting dark hair w/o gold or copper tones?

Late to the party but wondering how your hair journey was going. I think some of us pull really orange and it's so frustrating. When the stylist doesn't believe you, that's even worse. My natural is like a 6.5. When it's lightened it goes brassy. I'm waiting a few weeks before we go in again .

Color doesn’t lift color. You need lightener to get past the red/orange stage., then tone with ash/ green!! And it was taught when I went to beauty school!!! And I’m totally flabbergasted that they do not teach more about toning !?!? How is this possible ??? I mean these stylist today don’t even know how to use a damn curler !! I do not use permanent hair colour because I like to highlight my hair and breaking through permanent colour would damage my hair too much and I also do not want a harsh line of demarcation as it grows out. Also It doesn’t bother me if it’s not 100% covered….I use Schwarzkopf Igora vibrance with corresponding 13 volume for 30 minutes and it covers my greys nicely and it gives me a soft grow out. I mix half natural and half ash, 5-00/7-00 + 6-12, it fades lighter but it does not fade brassy or warm at all. I have the sane question. Did the toner T14 & 50 work for you ?
The red will be there until it is completely stripped taken out of your hair. For me I was depositing super dark brown into my hair for years, and to remove the red: it took 6 bleaching on my newer hair to remove the red. The ends still have some red but I cannot keep bleaching the ends. I get hair trimmed every few fells to get the ends to go away. Anything with gold will deposit a red tone into your hair which is what I did for years.

I am growing out my blonde hair and what to just spray on a toner, or apply a moose or gray temp color to blend the gray roots better and color or tame the yellow. What do you recommend for a leave on toning spray to tone down yellow. I do not want to use any thing permanent I am done with coloring my hair.

Wrong - never use permanent color Directly - if you want to go from Ash to Warm Color . You need to use the
    4 or 3 Series with a 20% Volume
See the clients base color first.

My hair is dark brown and I want it to be mushroom brown and it's a struggle ! I bleached my hair and it turned out orange/yellow so I dyed it with an ash color but it didn't cancel the orange, I had to dye it darker so I was back to square 1. I can't find any green based color anywhere so I'm going to mix green dye with a neutral color, I hope it works.

Mrs Elle bangs , i have lightish brown box dyed hair after years of bleaching it, and no matter how dark a brown i put on it once it washes/ fades i'm left with very very red tone brown hair, i want to stop dying it so dark brown but hate the red tone , i've tried blue shampoo/conditioner, someone said if i mix a tiny bit of blue hair dye with conditioner and leave it on for 5 mins it will tone red tones, is that right? Any advise is greatly appreciated 🙏

You’re toning with the wrong colour dear. You need green instead of blue. Try a green based demi permanent dye. Or mix some green semi permanent dye with a white conditioner. Hope this helps.

For fall and winter I went auburn, demo permanent and at the salon. We’re working on going back to blonde and did one round of baby lights and have booked another. Is there anything I can do between salon sessions to help get rid of the warmth aside from purple shampoos and conditioners? My hair holds the red tones way too strongly which was great when I was auburn but not when I want to be blonde again.

if you feel your warmth is coming from your highlights you can easily tone your hair at home but if the warmth is coming from your base, then it becomes a little more difficult and I would suggest a licensed professional.

So is there ever really a way to keep brunette hair from fading to the ugly red? Or is it just a constant battle of having to tone down every few weeks? Sure it looks the way I want it to as soon as it's done. But that always fades and looks red.

@@krykat. it's because blue cancels orange and not red. You need green to cancel red. The brand Matrix, Dark Envy seems quite effective but I haven't tried it. There's also a green hair mask by Kerastase but it's expensive.
