    Duane had a big influence in my life..i was playing guitar for a few years..and then..i heard Duane..bought a Les Paul..changed around my pick ups..got a Marshall amp..and i was about 14...still play and love their music...wished he had lived longer..he was a great guitar player..he had a lot of soul. Miss him...that is why im listening to him tonight...sometimes you got to go back to your roots..this is where mine was. Thank you for all the great music. Galadrielle..he had a big effect on many people sorry you didn't really get to know your dad.

      Nice to hear you.....I remember where I was when I heard Duane died...We were all so sad....Then we realized we still had Gregg....who carried things on....who carried on for many years after his beloved brother's death. I've got their cd's in my house, my office....my home...LOVE THEM...WILL ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND........

      Seeing Macon is great, so many other things to visit that are affiliated with ABB. The Museum is priceless and sometimes concerts are held out back. Got to go to the H & H restaurant as well. Good vibes !

    Galadreille,
    I was about 19 or so, when the Allman Brothers hit it big, what a tremendous tremendous band. I never heard then or since then anyone who could hit those guitar notes that go right to your heart. It broke my heart and it must have broke yours, but your dad and uncle put together one of the all time great bands. IF there was one album I could take with me when I pass, it would be the Allman Brothers, Live at the Fillmore. An incredible work of art. Anthony

    I can’t read many books because my ADHD makes reading difficult. But I read Please Be With Me. It is so well written that it made the read enjoyable and easy for me. One day I sat outside and looked up from the book and there was a beautiful rainbow just in front of me. I couldn’t help but feel it was Duane smiling down from heaven.

    The only thing I can recommend is to get the book on Audible, where you get the bonus of having Galadrielle read her book to you. It makes the experience so much more heartfelt. I couldn't make it but a couple of sentences in before the tears started falling. TBH, I think I was still in the 'Foreword' and didn't finish it in that sitting. The tears wouldn't stop.
    So it really hit home for someone like me, a father who buried his daughter & only child when she was only 2 years old. So I somewhat understand and share the feeling of loss. The heartache and anguish of not knowing the person in this world closest to you.
    My daughters mother did her best to keep my daughter away from me(not because of me. I still gave her money from my paycheck every week, etc...) so I didn't get to see her much in those 2 years. I didn't see my daughter at all in the last 6 months of her life because of that woman and I still resent her for it.

    Duane baby sat for my Son with my brother in Pensacola Florida in 1970, both played my brothers 1959 Sun Burst Les Paul.. My brother and I met with Duane at the 1969 Atlanta Pop Festival,, he and Greg bought clothes at out Store in Pensacola Oz Boutique. He and Greg backed my brothers wife’s Band “ The Sand Pipers” several years on Pensacola Beach as the Allman Joys. We were all lucky.

    I will never forget the story of how Twiggs Lyndon traded Gregg a antique car for a 195? Gibson that was owned by Duane. Twiggs wanted to ensure the guitar ended up with Galadrielle. That says a lot about the character of Twiggs Lyndon.

    Duane's daughter writes with a lot of skill and creativity. I wonder how much is fictional biography in parts. It's a painful read; he wasn't always a good guy. Ask her Mom. And some of the stupid, crass comments here below are exactly why Duane got dumped by her. Btw ; the Allman brothers' father was murdered when they were both quite young. Chew that for a while as you ponder his inspiration.

    • @missnic1825
      @missnic1825 6 років тому

      in a sense you're right, he didn't live long enough to be known world wide in his own right. D. Allman was known by a tight group of talented musicians, who were awed at his skill, a few were from across the ocean. Had he lived, he would have piloted that band into stardom, only he would have reaped the rewards right along with them. His legend is known only in "tale" by most. Very few can say "I saw" most say, "I heard"....

      CEF, you've got this all wrong. I haven't read her book yet but I plan to after reading countless positive reviews. That said, I understand that the book is about her dad, not her. You make it sound like she's simply taking advantage of her blood line. Pretty mean comment by the way. I don't see any thumbs up.

      I would guess it’s a helpful part of the healing from losing a father so young. A circumstance you have no right to judge with such lack of grace.
