  • A few weeks ago I lost my motivation.
I referred back to some notes I'd written to myself the last time it happened.
I turned those notes into a video.
They help me. I hope they help you too.

yup great advice there. I've suffered two major depressive episodes in my life, and the biggest lessons I've learned about myself and dealing with 'dark days' and lost mojo moments is pretty much that we spend far too much time seeking perfection. It prevents us actually even trying to do things - the fear of failure usually stems from a perception of how something should be perfect. For me accepting things as they are and actually realising that failure (negative) is a result of actually trying (positive) to do something. To get my mojo back I read, listen to audiobooks and generally remember to accept things for what they are. I've been reading teachings on Stoicism and that is something you should look in to! It really helps! Great content as ever x

Leonidas, a great way of helping with dark days is to spend some time in the morning and afternoon imagining gold or white light pouring into you, surroundng you like love and what this does is transforms the dark into light. Bit by bit you will notice the difference and get stronger and happier. I have created a free meditation audio if you would like to try it? People have said that they can actually feel layers of negative energy peel from them which warms my heart as I didn't know I could create such things 🙏

I used to hate those days when I would have to teach in the gym and just didn’t want to. The students feed off the instructor’s energy. You just have to force yourself to go sometimes, and I found that once I started teaching I usually fell out of it and was properly pumped up again.

My advice is pretty similar to some of the things you said- honor where you’re at. After my marathon I wanted to get back toy regular gym routine, but that consists of 4:30am wake ups. The reality of that was tough after getting used to waking at 5:30 or 6 for several months. I let myself ease in and built the routine back up. I just had to honor how I was feeling. Finally I am getting back to my typical 5 days a week, and I’m excited about it because I didn’t force myself when I wasn’t ready, which could have led to burning out.

    Hi Laura
I fully agree with you. What helps me most when I‘m really low is, as you say:
    1. to acknowledge and accept the fact,
    2. alliow myself to do something / anything that makes me feel good even if my brain tells me I should have other priorities: sleep, read, paint, talk to a friend, go for a walk… It can be one thing or all of it, it might take an hour or a week, but out of nothing, mojo comes back magically, stronger than ever. Exactly as you explain it. Thank you ever so much for sharing this with authenticity .

Some great advice here, you talk a lot of sense. Turns out my loss of mojo was actually down to some severe vitamin deficiency, which had gone unnoticed for quite some time (mostly down to me being stubborn and ignoring the signs)... In terms of motivation to do something specific, especially something creative, I've learned not to wait for the motivation. We tend to assume that motivation/inspiration must come first, then action follows, but in reality it seems to be the other way round -- you become motivated/inspired once you get into actually doing something! Happy (belated) new year to you, Laura!

🌲I go outside and be in nature with my dogs, even for a few minutes (dogs are the best therapists).

Thanks. And I think you are right about the demand to always be at our best is just not possible. I had not thought of just switching to something you do enjoy for a bit. You are right it would help to get through the slump. Great vlog.
And there are 2 things I thought you could vlog on. The Smart Scales and how to use them. I have just bought one and now have all this info about my body which I don't understand. How much hydration is normal. 2 types of body fat on mine (???). Etc. I know you have one because you used them in the different challenges.
The other one is about the hydrated food you used on the Atlantic row. I want to use some for hiking and camping trips and love the idea of just adding water to my meals. What was your experience with the food. Was there enough fuel for the body? Did it get boring? Maybe you were so tired all the time you did not care. It might be a niche thing but there aren't many vlogs on it.
As always I live your channel. Keep going please.

@@LauraTryUK I don't at the moment. I have not been hiking in years and used to just take cans. Very heavy to carry. So I am interested in dehydrated food.
I eat vegan so not too worried about not having a chunk of something to chew on each meal. But just adding water to make a meal seems to idyllic.
