A few notes about this video:
    1. I do Morning Pages when I go away with work as I find they set me up for the day. I do them when I am on holiday too as my mind is relaxed and what comes out is lovely. It doesn't feel like a chore, just a real luxury.
    2. If circumstances arise where I cannot write my Morning Pages for several days/weeks, then I don't worry. I pick the habit back up again when it's convenient. A recent example was a 10-day trip abroad (living on a desert island) where it wasn't convenient or conducive to journal. (PS - a video about the desert island coming soon-ish)
    2. To reiterate, there is no right or wrong way to do Morning Pages - just write.
    3. Lol to moving to a new house - I've got something funny to tell you about that another time.
and by the way, it's a rental, not the 'dream' house I speak about in some of my vids.
I really look forward to reading about your experiences with journaling.

I think that the fact that you have moved out should not stop you from spending some nights at your mum's place whenever you feel like it. I went through a rough phase in my life about a year ago when I had broken up with my boyfriend and had to write my master's thesis, so I temporarily moved back in with my parents to be surrounded by people who would support me and then gradually moved back out again as I was feeling better. I find it exhausting to try to be self-sufficient 100% of the time (although I would love to think that I am and am working towards it), which is why I think that we should not let societal pressure or the belief that "mature grown-ups" no longer live with their parents stop us from spending time with our loved ones when we need it. :)

Love your work! I was crying hard 10 days ago, but I just covered myself in blankets and considered the mood to be like a terrible storm out at sea, with waves crashing on me. I ‘battened down the hatches” and waited for it to pass. It took 2 days… but I’m happy again. I thought you might like that sailing/rowing across the Atlantic analogy. 🤗🥰

I stumbled upon your channel just this morning. Thank you! I have a three-step process: 1) write all my thoughts on paper; 2) when finished, I take time to contemplate every item on the page; 3) shred the paper. The reason I shred (or burn) the page is that knowing ahead of time that no one will EVER read the page, I feel freer to write ANYTHING-including things about people in my life. Perhaps I’m angry at my wife, or discouraged about a friend, etc. I can dump all that on the page. I certainly wouldn’t want anyone finding my journals if I suddenly left this earth. So, I feel COMPLETE freedom in dumping anything on the page knowing I will soon shred it.

  • @jimmy2035
    @jimmy2035 2 роки тому

I mind dump on paper when I feel the urge because I don't want to energy sap, my coffee mates. Coffee time is for a laugh and sharing positive information that will refresh and restore. It's like thinking out loud but more concentrated. Venting on paper and pen really works, as you've just shown us. If you're ever in Sydney I would love to do a coastal hike with you from Bondi beach to Coogee beach. That's where I'm from Sydney, Bondi Australia.

Oh, i wasn't aware you moved out! Congrats on your new place!! My dad passed away in February and i am in the house, a big empty house, and slowly making it my own. My husband who isn't a Canadian, and is a musician and a traveller, is on the other side of the world and cannot come home at the moment because he's an American and not a Canadian citizen, and unvaxxed (he doesn't want to), so even though we are married, he hasn't been able to come home since February, and he is just hopping from country to country. Luckily, i am not the lonely type and am fine being by myself 💜 (though i check every day if the law has changed LOL... as soon as it isn't required, he's headed back) I'm also not completely alone, as i have Merri, our Norwegian Forest Cat. Writing is definitely one of the most therapeutic and meditative acts out there. I disagree about the no sharing part, though. It's not the same as morning pages, but I've been writing my diary since 1992 (I have over 100 thick notebooks), and i'm a writer, so mine is very articulate, often written in the imperative form, very lively, funny, and addressing someone. Like, "You'll never believe what happened after that!" etc. I sometimes crack myself up reading from some years back. I'm really telling the story with all the details because that's the best way to remember something and i can be quite self-deprecating (or just plain deprecating haha). It can sometimes be little nuggets of wisdom and some people could beneficiate from what i've learned, so i sometimes print excerpts in my zines or read them out in a podcast episode. 💜

However, in your case, I would say you shouldn't have moved outta mums house. I know culture and society promotes independence if financially capable but humans with deeper connection is beyond the society that we created, so dont follow the norms and hurt yourself. I am still struggling to understand how on earth does writing remove what you have in your head. If I have a problem I think about it, whether I also wrote about it or not... Because ultimately, it is only solving the problem that removes it. Writing just takes time I could use to do a run, which actually does remove problems from my head, even if for just the time it takes me to run... I wish someone could offer some logical explanation for logical people like me... Plus writing is like pulling teeth for me. I have to write for work and it is like 3 sentences written, 2 of those sentences deleted back again.

    • @isaT

Sounds like writing is just not your kind of thing in general😅
For me writing often has a similar effect as running has for you, and it helps me to think more clearly and come to some conclusions what to do.
But you're 100% right that it doesn't solve any problems. I used to journal a lot in the last years, but have become tired of it now because it really didn't change anything about my life and I ended up always writing about the same old problems.

I'm loving the honesty here Eve, and I do get it. I used to feel the same. and I do often wonder how it works, but all I can say is it just works. But like Isa said, writing may not be for everyone.
I have a busy head, my creative ideas can muddle up and get overwhelming sometimes so I find the writing clears the space that simply thinking does not do. If that makes sense?
PS (for context) - when I run I don't think about anything, and ideas just come to me. When I write, I problem solve and develop the ideas I had when I ran. sounds complex, but it all just happens.

Hi Laura, even if you think you need a therapist... I think you really don't need one. You are definitly capable to get rid of your "issues". It is all about getting back to your own self. And you are on a good way. The way to get rid of things is to talk and even if you can not talk then you have to realize that everything that happened in your life was ment to be. And if you look back to all the "bad" things in life and you think about "what kind of lesson did i need at that moment" then you see it from an other perpective. It is definitly for sure that you are living at this moment in this world for a reason. And the road that you are following now will bring you to it. You are awakening...

As a child abuse survivor from my own mom, I craved lone times when I was growing up. Had a lost childhood but at an early age I learned to embrace the abuse as it was expected. Stay strong, embrace your lone time to reflect yourself that I am sure you are doing now. Practicing Stoicism might helps, Medication by Marcus Aurelius is a good read.

A lovely emotionally honest video. It’s great that journaling helps you. I tried it a few times and just couldn’t get on with it - did not know what to write for starters. Tried ‘things I’m grateful for’, still nothing. But could probably fill several books with ‘things I’m abjectly disappointed in myself for’. That kind of negativity is not productive so it remains blank pages. My thinking and processing time (which you get from journaling) is done during my morning dog walk. I actually talk out loud the things I need to plan or change. Fortunately I live rural so no-one sees the village idiot doing this, and the dogs tolerate it - what gets talked about on the walk stays on the walk.

What I find fascinating is when you look back at some of the old stuff (I have volumes of journals) and just look at how far you've come, what you were worried about back then and how it compares to now. The tears, well, part of the process I'd say. I liked looking at the summary after 30 days, I stuck it all in a mind map and its fascinating to see all your random thoughts this way. @@LauraTryUK I somehow managed to keep going, by just creating the habit. Get up, make coffee, write morning pages. I may have missed a week at most. Occasionally I miss a day here and there. Personally I don't think 'broken records' are a bad thing. If there's something negative that just keeps appearing then probably life's telling you to 'fix' it. If things are more positive do them more. The 'problem' in all of this is that we're human. We want things to be consistent and the same, but at the same time we want spontaneity and excitement. I would try and push through and not consciously take a break. I've written total crap sometimes for days, but reading back on it you can see what's going on and take a more balanced review of things. - Just one last last thing. I go back and review the previous months pages and just make a bullet point entry on a page summarising that month. I found it a bit easier to break down the rambling entries into something a bit more constructive. - feel free to ask more. - oh and no, can't ever see life without them now.

Hi Laura, thank you for sharing and being so vulnerable with us. I have been doing a daily writing for about 3 years and everything you share is so true. Just recently, a couple of days ago, I was writing and a plan to help grow a business I have had for the past ten years suddenly fell onto the pages. The morning journaling has helped so many times I have lost count…one last tidbit. I do speaking and the pages, as blank as they appear each morning have turned out some very good talks. Keep it up 👍 and thank you again.

Hey 👋 Laura iv been with you since the beginning and what an inspiration you are to me!
It’s so weird that this video came up as yesterday my mum gave me a leather journal and I was going to use it to write down everything I’m greatfull for as iv just started using positive manifestation… however I was aware you did morning pages and after seeing this upload iv decided to start my own!
I think it’s a fantastic idea, I absolutely love your channel and will continue to support you while also starting my own healing process!
You really are an inspiration Laura, and congratulations on your new home!
I’m sure morning pages with come come up with an answer for your feelings of loneliness soon!
    Love 💕 Tia xxx
