Man i dont think you know how big of an impact videos like this make for total beginners like me especially that its not mainstream. Thank you very much
I am a poser. I was watching in 144p but now I'm watching it in 1080p. lowest quality for true kvlt but instead I decided to become a poser and went main stream 1080p. I'm going to blow my head off now because I'm a poser.
Making plenty of progress, keep it up! Took me ages to get those 8th notes for skank/blast beats going, but at some point it just "clicks" and it becomes second nature. You'll feel it when you get there, then your speed will go up very fast, so keep at it in comfortable tempos. :)
3 months in I bought a double bass pedal, 6 months months in I bought a new Sonor kit with 2 bass drums, 1 year in I was playing live on stage. Granted I had played guitar for 10 years before I started drumming so I had a big advantage. Liked and subbed, don't give up!
i'm in a black metal band, and this is the first time i realize that i'm missing and i wasn't playing black metal beats at all. Thanks for teaching me so much, sir lml lml
made alot of progress. your double bass skank beat sounded pretty tight. work on some double bass control and get it thight and youll be able to play alot of awesome beats. for the blast beats, try to relax your arms a bit more you looked tense.. give your hi hat arm a bit of a sweep. let your snare arm use the bounce back from the snare and try to use your wrist more on the snare. (nice tip: tighten your snare head a bit for more bounce)
Drumbeats 3 and 4 are pretty much the essential two beats which were prominent in extreme metal in the 00's - the reason why I started liking doom metal more. Just those two beats over and over in every song makes a pretty boring listening experience. As much as I like blasting and double bass drumming, you just can not milk those to the ends of the world. Zimorog proves he is great by showing more than those two beats
I would start slower with the double bass. Trying to play fast immediately will just make you play really sloppily. Also try looking up some tutorials on how to tune a drum set, it’ll help your drums sound a lot better and you’ll need to learn how to do it at some point.
Hey dude, i just want to point you in the right direction! Get a metronome and use it all the time. You will notice that your playing will improve even quicker
Are you playing heel up ? Keep playing man. You'll get better and tighter with time. Trust me I've been playing for almost 30 years you learn new things everyday.
I would have even if I didn't see your comment first, I beat was exactly what I expected. Then again, I wasn't sure if you meant the Motorhead song or the band but I figured song.
Love the first two examples and the disco beat, my least favorite in black metal is probably the blast beat, too conflicting, less atmosphere. Another great video, will help me (a non-drummer) record drum machine tracks!
the next thing you know you might end up playing (scrapping ;P ) Symposium by Dimmu Borgir! (actually the blast beat is not pure strait... you can tell Nickolas Barker was pushing it a bit there!) tho nice work considering some play less good after a year!
Not kvlt enough :D for being kvlt you need an EQ and isolation of all treble frequencies :)) Anyway, the disco beat and basic rock beat are so easy, and you can write great riffs over them. Not only in Black metal, but I heard both of them even in funeral doom songs!
I have always admired your guitar videos, I have been playing it for some 8, 9 years, it means I play the same level you play. I admire your will to learn playing drums. This time your first two attempts were good, but the rest was.....not good. I feel very sorry to cut your (throat) attempts this way, but to be honest to lie is worse. I would like to do some cover videos, I always wanted to do so before I had known your channel, I am still waiting....
The beats are not that hard, but staying in beat for a long time is fucking hard. Myself I lack the endurance, but practice makes master. But I wonder if practicing the drums is worth, since you can make drum machine do what takes a ton of practice for mere man.
Yeah, the warning is needed; I understand you are learning and you are surely better then me; but I just can't endure it. I wish you the best, but I have to stop watching.
Fun fact about Jesu Død: Varg didn't have a double kick pedal on the day of recording so he had to overdub every second kick.
correct, i think getting that timing right and mixing it in perfectly may take as much skill as playing it
@@donk.marijn1297 My thoughts exactly. Also he recorded his first album in 23 hours after only playing drums for 2 days!
No overdubs.. just copy paste
This man just made his life more diffucult and in dunkelheit he recorded drums first
How do you know that?
3:21 I was really expecting the example there to be Ea, Lord of the Depths.
same
Lol me too
Fiend S Metoo (2)
I did as well

Cool video mate!!
Damn i didnt know you watch zimorog! You tought me burzum lost wisdom and shit haha
barg num His channel is great!!
I reminded myself how to play darkthrone for this vid on Simons yt channel :)
I love you guys, you two are fucking magnificent.

you are obviously killing it for 3 months….you are living proof of what you can accomplish when you are not afraid to work hard….
With the second one I immediately thought of Dunkelheit.
I was expecting him to play that
*sed varg noices*
Great video. It was great to hear how the beats transformed when the guitar started over them. This video showed the potential of each beat.
Disco drums in black metal is my favorite. The Blonde Beast by Marduk
Riley Barringer the bland beat

ok man, thanks!
I gotta say, you made a lot of progress compared to when you first started
Thanks man :)

Darth Sablast
Lord ov the Drums ov Doom
When I saw disco beat I instantly thought of Quetzalcoatl by Azaghal
Hey comrade I didn't expect you here! I did think you like black metal but that was kust because you're Finnish
Nice Man. It will help my programming on my solo album. Cheers from the other side of the world, south America. \m/

Nice tips! I'll try that :)
I didn’t know how bad I was till I recorded myself. In having done so my timing has improved. This is good stuff here.
Agreed, disco beat is Krieg. I'm surprised that more black metal bands don't use it in general, Lol. Hails \m/
Haha that ending earned you a sub :D Well done sir!
For three months drumming that’s not bad at all, keep going at it!
I know this videos so old but got anything on how to play the blast beat at 1:55
Damn! you progressed really fast. How much time are you practicing a day?
usually around 20-30 mins, some days i do not practice at all and some days i play around 2h
Cool !!! The disco beat is soo kvlt
Disco ist KRIEG! Awesome.
Speaking of disco, is there a black disco metal song?
@@linkskywalker5417 The Vampiric Tyrant
I'd missed that one, it's nice to see how far you've come from there ^^
Dude thanks! I just bought a drum set cos I’m tired of dealing with band members, I’ve gotten not bad in 3 days of drumming
The black metal way lmao!

900JJJ009 Lol but this is the most basic you can get
doom metal is hard asf. I love burning witch, khanate, early boris...
I’m back again. Someone may have already said this since this video is older but the disco beat is also used in Marduk’s Blonde Beast
get a metronome since you're still this early in learning... seriously, you'll be happy you did years down the road
I would start slower with the double bass. Trying to play fast immediately will just make you play really sloppily. Also try looking up some tutorials on how to tune a drum set, it’ll help your drums sound a lot better and you’ll need to learn how to do it at some point.
The thrash 2 step is classic.
I immidiately tought of burzum with that second one
Not too bad! Just needs time brotha your almost there
Blonde beast from marduk has disco beat... And is great
I tought of the chorus to blow your trumpets gabriel when you played the disco beat
prepare to enter my track
Your drumming is getting on great!
For number 7 its just 6 but you play hi hat twice as much, Enslaved does it a lot in their good albums.
i bet the lamp isnt alive anymore :D
Hey dude, i just want to point you in the right direction! Get a metronome and use it all the time. You will notice that your playing will improve even quicker
99% i play with a metronome. somehow i learned to do better stuff without it. like blast beats
Are you playing heel up ? Keep playing man. You'll get better and tighter with time. Trust me I've been playing for almost 30 years you learn new things everyday.
i am, tho when i go a bit over 160 bpm i use more ankle motion
Zimorog Band excellent!! There are variety of blastbeats that work with different tempo changes
Great work dude keep rockin🤘
don't waste your time, and just fast foward to 2:52
Am I the only one who instantly thought 'Overkill' when I heard No. 5?
I thought Ea, Lord of the Depths, but yeah I see it.
I would have even if I didn't see your comment first, I beat was exactly what I expected.
Then again, I wasn't sure if you meant the Motorhead song or the band but I figured song.
Off the top of my head though I think Ballroom Blitz is similar lol.
quintessence was the first thing that came to mind lol
This gives me hope that I could be my own drummer for my black metal vision. No need to work with anyone else hah trve kvlt 666 🤘🤘
Love the first two examples and the disco beat, my least favorite in black metal is probably the blast beat, too conflicting, less atmosphere. Another great video, will help me (a non-drummer) record drum machine tracks!
I love me some blast beats
What about the 1 step 2 step 3 step 4 beat? You know, the one used in some country songs? Especially way back in the 90s and earlier?
The blast beats are best when they are soft taps on the snare.
I thought the Disco beat example was going to be the Blond Beast by Marduk
This video is a huge reason why I love you
Great video man thank you
Absolute progress on your double bass drum (far better than mine) respect !
Laurent Parisot If it’s better than yours you must be pretty trash
*insert name here* yes you're right i really suck with druming but m'y guitar playing is far better,
Laurent Parisot I’m the opposite actually haha.
*insert name here* let's go create a band !
Laurent Parisot That would be awesome except there’s no way you live in North Carolina
nice pink wall and tiny off putting lamp 👌
the next thing you know you might end up playing (scrapping ;P ) Symposium by Dimmu Borgir! (actually the blast beat is not pure strait... you can tell Nickolas Barker was pushing it a bit there!) tho nice work considering some play less good after a year!
How to play drums like Lifelover should be your next video
Number 4: the best for me ! yeah ! \m/
You are incredible, GOOD JOB
helpful video, thank you!
I bet your neighbors just love you now haha
they got used to it :P
Personally, I like the thrash one
5th beat is there in Freezing moon too after the riff ends, no?
Keep it up man
This is the best drum lesson on youtube.
Anyone can recommend songs with the 5th beat ?
what about the snare blast beat that just overpowers everything else?
I know, why some people don't like Azaghal - because they used disco beat! And disco beat isn't trve and kvlt.
Nice video and nice drumming
thank you!
where did you get this set from and what’s it called?
Excellent job! now do Dark Funeral.
That's 230+ bpm and i'm having a hard time even with 210 bpm blasts
I know, Im joking, Dark funeral's fucking insane musically. I struggle with that speed too
Проорался немного

Nice examples! What crash are you using for the drums?
i got the cheapest set for start.. called DiMavery. Never heard of it hehe
Brand i'm looking foward to is Meinl
Drums is very smart
to hell with poser norsecore, these are some true beats m8
why do you look like youre falling asleep when you drum:D
Disco Beat ist Krieg
that face though haha
Вот это по кайфу! Just lit
I'm surprised the skank beat wasn't used as Ea, Lord Of The Depths by Burzum.
EDIT: I originally stated War, but was corrected.
@Chab You're absolutely right. I was thinking of Ea, Lord Of the Depths. Corrected!
sounds like absolute shit, but somehow the amateur quality improves the music, so good job
