  • Here is one of the projects I have been working on in the background, precision furnace arrays. With the introduction of cart yeeting mechanics I was finally able to get them completed to a level I am satisfied with, so I hope you find these furnace arrays useful.

    12:55 For the uninitiated, the concept of 'shulker box in --> shulker box out' is special because with most large furnace arrays, the output for each module (or group of modules) is handled separately so the output would be split among multiple shulker boxes

    I've made 1728 arrays before because I love the balance of being able to put one box in and guarantee that the array will smelt at max speed, but I've not done it with hopper locking, or with the advantage of full minecart dropping. This has definitely inspired me to start over again when 1.19 actually releases :)

    Its so amazing how redstone has advanced over time with updates. I rememeber back when before observers you had to have a piston BUD switch to "observe" an object and in order to move items up you had to use a whole chain of droppers. And then there is the hopper clock, which would be four hoppers (though that might just have been since I was new to redstone at the time).

What I would have done is to connect it with the output of a bamboo farm, sure its not effective for long term smelting jobs, but usually you generate overtime more bamboo than you need for smelting as its not something you constantly always do, and with bamboo you can at much ease to small smelting jobs too without worrying youre wasting fuel.

    If anything I have learned about minecraft is that the simplest way to do something for job you want to do most of the time. I have found that the solution is to have a maximum of 10 furnaces in an array which is ample for most jobs. I use the minecart with rails on top of the fuel and product input hoppers to make sure the input is distributed evenly. Also I will note that if you fill the fuel hopper slots 2,3,4,5 with 1 dirt each this will keep them from filling up with fuel that is just going to sit unused. Dirt or any non fuel item will not pass into the furnace and will remain in the hopper. With this setup I also puta solid block with a level on the front of each output hopper under each furnace so I can retrieve the EXP for each furnace after smelting numerous items, especially cactus which yields 1 EXP per cactus smelted. With cactus farms and a Lava farm I have a good system,

    You give the entire industrial genre of Minecraft mods an existential crisis with your contraptions, what was the point of all of those mods if we could just have gotten into the nitty gritty details of the existing automation system of Minecraft vanilla? It always felt insufficient and half-arsed but its just that the mechanics are really obscure. At this point I feel like I am on a tangent, played Minecraft since 2009-10ish, currently stuck on some industry and pollution themed modpack of my own for the last few weeks starting over and over from not being able to decide on what fits my modpack better or worse. I haven't defeated the enderdragen, the wither, I dont feel like I managed to completely explore the nether prior to the nether biome update. Tamed my first cat since they were even added like yesterday.
    You make the whole automation and technology thing only overtly supported by mods seem like it is part of the vanilla progression experience.

    • @cubicmetre
      @cubicmetre  4 місяці тому

      The reason for using coal/charcoal is the burn time doesn't waste too much fuel if you are only doing one or two smelting operations. The more burn time the fuel has the less efficient the array will be for smaller smelting operations. However you can use kelp blocks if you adjust the timings to match the burn time of the kelp blocks.

  • @tangxizhijin

    I had built the 1728 furnace array in my world, during using and building, I found some question.
    1, there are two hopper in material input part missed.
    2, the shulker loader will product shulker box with 3~18 items, so I need fill shulker manually.
    3, In a smelting period, the furnace will keep some items(about 8 stacks).
    4, If fuel run out, we can't take all item out of furnace because the minecart in hopper isn't filled by collecting minecart.
    there is no way to get smelted item with less effort.
    5, sometimes the minecart with hopper will lay on the rail.
    6, the shulker boxes in fuel unloader couldn't drop into water, it's a tiny problem.
    in general, this furnace array designed with some brilliant idea, I do love those fantastic design, especially the material unloader system and 8 times shulker loader. But it's too precise, so lack of some robustness.
    I am tired for fixed it throughout backup. So I would build another 3840 furnace array near this one. And I will not remove this one, hopefully I can upgrade it one day.

    Something I've been trying to make is a furnace array that allows for both the items and the fuel to be placed in a single container that would then be drained into the array. The main difficulty I've been having is actually how to load the chest minecarts to then unload and distribute the items/fuel evenly. Any tips on loaders and unloaders?

    • @cubicmetre

      This furnace array is slightly incomplete, and that is mostly because I haven't figured out exactly how we want to use it on wavetech. However some ideas would be to build a small control room around the input then have an item call system for each of the chest cart loaders that requests full shulkers of fuel whenever one of them drops below a certain threshold.

    I built the first array block by block from a schematic I took from the world download. I double checked all block states and made sure that my placements were correct. I have 2 problems, my collection cart's timing was leaving behind the right side of the array (32 smelted items) which I seemed to fix by placing a repeater set to 2 ticks at the start of the powered minecart rail line that powers the collection chest cart. My 2nd problem arose after this fix, the left side has scattered items left over that the collection system isn't picking up.

    I downloaded the schematic and rebuilt it. I see no errors in block placement/state. However, there seems to be an issue for me where the collection chest minecart is either mistimed, or doesn't travel enough times, causing it to miss half of the smelted blocks and they're left behind in the hoppers under the furnaces. I've had no luck trying to fix it myself. Any idea as to why/what is wrong?
    Edit: I put 1 chest minecrart in each of the droppers and none in the dispenser and it works perfectly.

    1:39 Cubicmetre talks about not wasting 1 of the 8 smelting operations of a piece of charcoal. And then at 2:56 he immediately proceeds to smelt a single item in each of his 64 furnaces. (i.e. wasting 7 of the smelting operations of each charcoal.)
    I'd prefer to make furnace arrays with modules of 8 furnaces each and just wait 8 times as long. And if you want to smelt several stacks in parallel, you just build several modules next to each other. And any smelting array that wants to call itself "best" would need to distribute 8 items into each furnace until it runs out; and the next stack it would automatically distribute into the next 8 furnaces, and so on.
    Also, I don't know how some designers of furnace arrays make wasting 7/8th of each piece of charcoal an integral design choice, but then are too cheap on charcoal to just fill the whole fuel stack of their furnaces.

    • @akaEch0
      @akaEch0 Рік тому

      I think this could be fixed simply by adding a item counter at the input, once 8*[amount of furnaces in array] is met the hopper under the chest will be unlocked & a timer will start so that there is exactly enough time to take x amount of items (for a 64 furnace array, that'd be a hopper clock of 512 ticks (assuming 1 item per tick)). This will also prevent items being added while the input is dispensing into the array from wasting fuel.
      Edit: You could also add the same system for the fuel (1* instead of 8 for coal) that way it won't start until you have the fuel required. To link the counters together just add a AND gate.

    • @Pystro
      @Pystro Рік тому

      @@akaEch0 Yup, that would be the easy way to build a smelting array that doesn't waste fuel. The downside would be that you can't smelt less than 512 items (in your example case), unless you fill the shortage with cheap smelting operations, like cobble/ logs/ cacti.

    Great furnace array! Is there any way to check whether the player's input is in shulker boxes, stacks or singular items? Hello cubicmetre, I pasted the small one with the chest output on my vanilla multiplayer server (1.19.4). Whenever I try to smelt 8 stacks of items, there seems to be a small random delay between the top resupply of the furnaces, which almost always causes the last item to not be smelted in time before the coal runs out. This causes the last stack of items to stay in the furnaces, waiting for another round of fuel. Any fix that I could apply ?

    Dunno man, as good as these are, the latter one uses an entire coal for just 1-1 item as I see. 1 coal should be enough for 8 items. Provided you change the fuel, to something infinitely renewable that you have set up a fully automatic farm for nearby, it can be pretty handy I guess, but you'd have to do that first. My first ideas would be either bamboo, or carpet duping, but technically, if you want to stay with coal, than building this entire thing in the nether, in the bounding box of a nether fortress, under a huge wither skeleton farm that supplies it with coal could also be an option.
