Thanks for this! When I took it to a Volvo specialist he just said it is pretty normal on these, it is quite a big turbo and getting on a bit so bound to make some noise but doesn't mean it is going to fail. Love this D5 engine though!@@chocochris2003able
I have a non turbo petrol... also a whine from something on the serpentine belt when RPMs go up... What is it? All pulleys align, and run smooth

"broken" might be a bit strong (hopefully!) I am wondering if there might be a leak though.
My s60 D5 makes this noise when cold. Been doing it for 5 yrs and 60000 miles. Still does it to this day at 293000 miles on the clock. 🙂

Very common on 1.9 TDI... Mine does the same sound, it probably won't break but it's just annoying@@mattturner8335
