    What many D5 owners don't know is that if there's an awful wet plopping noise coming from their oil filler, it's caused by a vacuum leak. The pump vents excess air in the system through its oil feed from the exhaust camshaft. Many owners either think, or have been told they have some sort of catastrophic engine problem, whereas it's usually just a knackered vacuum engine mount allowing air into the system. lift the revs a little and if the noise goes, it's definitely a mount as the vac feed to them is shut off above idle. It's a good idea to fix the issue sooner rather than latter as it can lead to oil starvation to the vac pump and they're not cheap to replace.

    Re the seatback tilting forward, you can move the seat all the way rear-ward. Then tilt the seat back forward all the way and then move the seat forward. The headrest will slide under the glovebox and you'll have a flat space all the way from the tailgate to the glovebox. At least it did that in my 850. I'll have to go out and check my 2004 XC70 and report back.

    • @pongsgarage
      @pongsgarage  2 роки тому +4

      I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing. I’m gonna check if that works on mine too tomorrow.

    • @paulnielsen8528

      @@pongsgarage Ok, the seat headrest won't fit under the glove box on the XC70 so it won't fold as flat as the 855T I had before. but moving the seat all the way back does allow the max forward fold and thus the flattest path. Let's see about the V70. Look forward to your report. Best. Paul N.

    • @pongsgarage

      It seems my V70 P3 is the same way as your XC70. The headrest won’t fit under the glovebox but dose fold flatter when the seat is at its most rearward position.

       @Pongs Garage @Paul Nielsen hey guys! I just did this (in my P2 but still) and the trick is you have to have it folded all the way forward, pushed all the way back, and then you adjust the pitch/tilt forward on the seat and it will get to a point where you can juuust squeeze the headrest under the glove box snugly :) In another vid the guy did it manually with a knob but I did mine with the electronic controls. As the upper part of the seat tilts forwards it lowers the headrest by a few inches (depending on where it was set to begin with)
      Guaranteed it will work in any V70/XC70 up til '07, and I would wager it will work in the P3's as well! This was designed as a feature and not a fluke, I would be shocked if they changed up the seats for the final generation.
      Just wanted to share, I brought home a 3 seater sofa and a counter table in one shot a few weekends ago and this is invaluable knowledge!
      Link to the other vid where the guy goes over it ua-cam.com/video/6Fng-ku70_8/v-deo.html
      Cheers!

      @@GreerokI would have thought the seat bolsters were going to be the biggest issue with the seat folding flat but I guess the seat height adjustment works in such a way it would tilt the back of the seat up. As when the seat goes up it sort of moves diagonally.

    Well as a Volvoniac myself those are things that I'm quite aware of. I've had a 240, 740, 850 (all wagons) and currently I have V70 II facelift (P2 platform). What I'm most amazed of is the fact, that the Astra J Wagon I had between the 850 and V70 II did all of those Volvo things too (Including the "windows" trick which all pre-V70 III generations lacked) and in a pretty similar way and the whole car felt like a Volvo too.
    I have a strong suspicion that either key engineers who worked on 850/V70 worked on Astra J or Opel/Vaughall had those cars for inspiration. The similarities were more than just mere coincidences. I drove the Astra for 230 000 kms and I was more and more amazed by details and little volvo pecularities I discovered. I even called it "the honorary Volvo". Apart from the 1.4T engine and old GM automatic transmission, which were very un-volvo-like and both failed miserably.

    • @pongsgarage
      @pongsgarage  Рік тому

      I’ve never tried the Astra J but I’ve always thought of it as being a rather nice car. Not dull or boring like so many other cars from the 00s and 10s. It’s more of a happy little terrier from what I’ve heard.

    • @DopravniPoradce

      @@pongsgarage It has an astonishingly good suspension capable of very high speeds, cornering and splendid control under any circumstances on any surface. It has interior quality miles above any VW or Audi. After 250 000 km it had NO wear signs whatsoever. It's a great looking, well though trough, well built car. Everything's perfect apart from the engine, mainly turbocharging and carbonisation in manual version (because of underrevving which auto doesn't allow) and the bloody awful old-ass GM auto. Which is a junk. Otherwise Astra J is one of the best cars in its class.

      @pongsgarage I hate both. Especially a manual. I've just had a clutch go on one. I'm never touching a manual again. Also I love not having to stick a key in. I don't like the ones when it unlocks when you're near. I'm happy with pressing an unlocked button on the fob but then I keep the key I'm my pocket and press the start button. I've had 2 ford's for the last 10 years simultaneously. The automatic without the ignition key. Is so much better for me than the manual with the ignition key. The latter should be going anytime soon.

      I don’t know what options were or weren’t available in the US but I do know rear heated seats weren’t standard on all models of the V70. I do know however that the US had a some what limited availability of the V70 as the XC70 became the standard for some reason though I believe most XC70 in the US are only FWD.
      As for me, I’m based in the home country of Volvo, Sweden.

    • @gordonjelke2475
      @gordonjelke2475 Рік тому +1

      In general, we have both FWD and AWD options available. For example, when I had my 1997 850, it was already pre-wired for rear heated seats. And the end of the center tunnel console already has knockout blanks for the heater switches. One problem though; none of the dealers are able to locate the OEM factory wiring harness for the US. Additionally, the dealers would have you believe that either, a.) It's not a US option., or b.) It's not already pre-wired or even possible.@@pongsgarage

    • @pongsgarage
      @pongsgarage  Рік тому

      It’s possible in the 850 to get rear heated seats. More or less everything is prewired lacking only the heated rear seat and the relay for the heating. It’s generally the same story with all extra options on P80 cars.
