Hurst admitted (some years later) that his first goal came off his hand, not his head, although no-one in the Sunderland team or the crowd saw it, let alone the referee. I was already a strong West Ham fan, aged 15 at the time. I met Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst because they both used to bring their children to the nursery school owned by my Mum in Chigwell, to where they moved after the 66 World Cup. I couldn't see this match live because I was playing football for my school on Saturday afternoon, so my mother bought me a copy of the 8mm film which West Ham made of the game, from which this video is taken.
I am proud to say I was at this game. I was 13 at the time..I was a regular at Upton Park to see the boys. I traveled there (by tube) from Hillingdon to see my team.(as I did on a regular basis) What a day!...I remember feeling a bit sorry for Sunderland in the end!
The year before I got my season ticket in the new east stand (A191) £16 to watch 21 games. I'll miss the old place. Looking forwad to bigger things at the new place. Shame the 6 goal hero couldn't be at the last game!
my first ever West Ham game! great to see this 40 odd years later!

Actually he admitted it and it was in the papers the next day. I think it diminished what was a remarkable day.

I was at this game as well. I remember Sunderland hit the bar with almost the last kick of the game. Not their day!
Remember it well as a13 year old , walk back down barking road for pie & mash ! Great day.
I was in the North Bank that day, I was a mere 11 years old.
