My dad was the left back in the team and all the way through the 80s with over 350 appearances for villa, amazing memories, I was not born when this happened but could not be prouder
@@VillaBoy he is good thank you, living in North Yorkshire. He is looking forward to being back at villa Park and there is a big 40 years celebration happerning, let me know if you are there il sort out some 82 autographs for you
I’m 55 Arsenal fan all my life but I was cheering you boys on back in 82 and felt as though we had won it. Brilliant team you had and does not get mentioned enough. Double well done for the victory over Bayern again. Great days back in the 80s
Greatest night ever. RIP Gary Shaw. Lovely man who I used to bump into regularly, always available for a chat. Had chance to thank him for all the memories ⚽️⚽️⚽️🥲

Whenever JR was in goal you knew Villa were a chance, to see him go off and young NS jog on and perform as he did from cold was a fantastic testament to two great 'keepers.
I’m 69 now ,I watched Ron Saunders build this team, Doug Ellis didn’t own Villa when they won this, Doug Ellis bought the club back just after then sold the players, Doug was happy too be centre of attension even if Villa lost, it was all about him
Amazing scenes - that we could achieve such magnificent success, twelve years after slumping disastrously into the Third Division seems unbelievable. From the pits to the pinnacle - a fantastic triumph for the Mighty Saunders. A truly great man and leader who made it all possible.
I would give anything to have this team back again, my grandfather played for the villains in the 40's as an outside left but this team on top of the fact that I bleed Claret and blue so be it
Still the best day of my life as I was 14 and didn’t know I was going until three days before, still got my pass and ticket to this day and Max shows it on the v Bayern Game on Villa on tour 💜💙
Also the fact, Aston Villa ended at 11th at the league table when the team won european cup that season. What a crazy mid table team that was, for its time.
Aston Villa won the league to qualify. Then they won the European Cup and European Super Cup - that is the biggest achievement so far in their history. It doesn't matter about the league position because once safe in the division you can prioritise.
Love this channel, Up the Villa. Yes, definitely a huge Scouse contribution made to this team. And now you have another Liverpool legend in Steven Gerrard, I was gutted when he left my team Glasgow Rangers, but its working out well for both clubs now
Sadly due to poor club management and lack of ambition, it was all down hill for the next 5 years. After a remarkable 9 year rise from Division 3, that was so disappointing. Apart from some bright spells in the nineties, Villa have massively underachieved. Hopefully under Emery they’re now going somewhere again.
I’m reading you comment in September 2024. One year on from your comment. Villa have qualified for the Champions League and have just given Young Boys of Switzerland a 0-3 beating at their place. The game was sadly overshadowed by the passing of Gary Shaw who has died as a result of a fall. RIP Gary. The tribute to Gary with a 1 minute of applause at VP yesterday was a fitting tribute, with the volume of the crowd physically shaking the Holte End. Great Villa legend and a great man.
Following season they were totallly swiped off from Euro Cup by the great Michel Platini and the six-world-champions squad Juventus FC , both in Villa Park and in Turin !!
1:30 is where he says it. I can't tell if he's being sincere or not. Initially I thought he was inviting him to their celebratory dinner and it seemed a nice touch.

Simon, I was an apprentice with your dad when we stayed on the Chester rd.Please tell him Terry Wilson says hello.

Big respect to the man himself
Ron Saunders built this team over 8 years

The most underated achievement in the history of football.

Piss off this is villa not arsenal glory f
Great footage brings a tear to my eyes I was at the final unforgettable night wild I'm 64yrs old now
The way Unai is going, you might go to another final🙏 UTV
These lads deserve a statue of them holding the trophy outside VP. The proudest moment on our history
My dad was the left back in team and it was a great time to be a villa fan even though I was not born up the villa.
@@simonwilliams1732 now they only show statue of foreigners in villa park
Jimmy Rimmer...legend. He never let the lads down and had it not been for him, then we probably don't reach the final. What a great team. UTV.
It's a shame Harry Kane didn't have the same attitude at the Euros.

Amazing times Tony Morley was my hero at 10 years old
I have no idea what Tony Morley is saying. What a team. No great players just lots of Very Good ones.
My late great great grandad was a avid Aston Villa fan. He remembers watches it.
Great villa team
Shame Saunders was not invited to attend the ceremony.
Unbelievable big Gary newborn told him he had to go on what a performance
Compare to how subdued the dressing room is to 2020 when we just scraped staying in the Premier League.
A very strange comparison to make. This was achieving the pinnacle in club football.
The little kid on the balcony’s was I believe the currently manager Dean Smith.

Not one player in that Villa side was in the current England side
Aston Villa were very lucky, Bayern had many more goal opportunities.
Both Dennis and myself have a mutual dislike for each other. We often stare each other out with the last to blink thinking they are the winner.
