“Good People Must Not Be Silenced!”: Jordan Peterson’s Call to Leaders at ARC Forum

  • Dr Jordan Peterson: "What does it mean for a country to descend into the grip of the totalitarian nightmare? ...it means that every single person who is an inhabitant of that country has decided to hold their tongue when they've been called upon to say what should be said."
Speaking at ARC Forum, Jordan Peterson’s warning is that these catastrophes don’t just occur overnight, but that there is a journey towards them that is marked by silence.
“Good people have a burden on their conscience. The burden requires them to speak…And they refuse the call.”
We are at a turning point in our societies. The health of a society relies upon the responsibility and courage of its people. Jordan’s call is emphatic: “Speak the truth while you still can.”

very true. On a small scale, my husband & I found this to be true in our life. We rose against our local school board & fought for 2 years trying to wake the public up to the truth of their incompetence & corruption. We drew a line in the sand...if they didn't 'change' we would pull our kids from the district & homeschool them. This was a huge price to pay: we were social pariahs, ostracized, lambasted in our local media, etc...Our kids lost friends, the principal of their school outright shunned them, teachers were 'punished' for publicly siding with us, etc...we had to completely re-invent our lives to honor our 'line in the sand', in order to circumvent the evil we saw taking place. So, the price seemed steep! BUT, you are right in that the 'reward' that went with it FAR outweighed the 'price' or punishment. the people we were ostracized from were the VERY people we needed to get away from in order to live a decent life, according to our morals/standards. It totally removed those people from our sphere - they were toxic & many were not good people (as a matter of fact the principal of their school? Her son literally just strangled a woman to death yesterday. Glad I'm not associated with them anymore!) Our daughters love each other & love us. It brought us all closer together. they have had success in schooling, work, friendships, etc...And all the negative energy was gone. We gained things I can't even articulate and proved to ourselves that we had fortitude, courage, etc...And we have been able to guide others to the same destination. The whale spit us out onto dry land

I never tire of hearing Dr. Peterson recount the story of Jonah 😍
I discovered Dr. P when he came out with 12 rules for life. I made my children listen to the audiobook. I have been hooked ever since. And I use his principles when I'm working with my patients 💯 👌
And hey Dr P if you happen to read this, listen: they can take your license. It doesn't matter. You have been doing exactly that which God has called you forward to do. You have a global audience. You don't need that fancy piece of paper anymore. You are still "Doctor" and you are changing lives with each person who reads your books and listens your lectures. KEEP GOING. Screw the establishment shills who try to cancel you. They mean nothing at the end of the day. What matters is that you are true to your internal moral compass 👌💯🙏💛

I live in Australia. In my country there is an apathy and the "she'll be right" attitude that makes it hard for those of us trying to speak out.
I have decided recently to have the courage to speak. I'm glad I have spoken out because I was surprised when most people have enjoyed the debate or they agree with me.
I will live with truth rather than be silent! It will take courage but the price paid if I don't do it is my self respect and the knowledge that, by remaining silent, it's seen as agreement.
I've watched as others have stayed silent and watched as those people are bulldozed over and sacrifice not only themselves but the next generations. My conscience won't allow me to stay silent.
Thank you for your inspiration Dr Peterson.

Love it. Absolutely brilliant. So true. Peterson has the rare ability to be a universal preacher. That derives from his grasp of universal truths, his conviction about which he learned through practice. Any house of worship would do their congregations a favour by playing them this talk instead of a sermon. Faith begins in action. And any town hall or parliament could start their meeting off with this pep talk.

    • @brndxt
      @brndxt 2 дні тому

@invoker969 Thank you for your response. I have given it some thought. I digress.
The truth is Hamas started the October 7th attack and killed over a thousand people, and not all were soldiers, and not all were Israeli. They held / hold hostages, still. They killed / kill the hostages, still. Hamas committed atrocities in their initial attack, too, in the first place. This was and is war, declared or not. Israel has every right to respond.
Maybe Netanyahu does have war criminal tendency. However, in this round of war, he was only acting in response. WW2 war criminals such as Hitler or Tojo needed no responses or even genuine excuses. They just attacked first.
One may argue his response also ended up killing Gaza civilians, including women and children, who are innocent. Yes, war is harsh, destructive, and best to be avoided. Deaths of civilians are always sad. But are they really innocent? They elected Hamas. They are part of the Hamas war machine. Hamas built tunnels underneath civilian neighborhoods. Just like the WW2 Nazi Germans who housed civilians next to military targets. I won't say the civilians of WW2 Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and Fascist Italy were innocent.
One may also argue that Israeli responses have been too disproportionate, militarily speaking. Perhaps. But I don't know enough to judge. But then one objective of war, where and when occurred, is to deplete or destroy the enemy capacity to wage war. In so doing, one might have applied too much force, but generally, only in hindsight, not during the fight. Even if so, who started the war? I am glad the Allies in WW2 threw everything they got against the Axis. Else, we might not have this conversation today. I wouldn't even have been born.

I have for most of my grownup life spoken the truth as I see it, and it has caused me many heart breaking moments, but the thought of living a constant lie would have completely broken me. Many moments that I have looked back on I have thought I could have handled it better, but hind sight is such a wonderful thing and allows you to see things with further knowledge gained in the interim period, as well as time to have thought the episode through which you did not have at the time it happened.

Ancient message and truths are proof that they're never lost to the passing of time, but they become lost to those who are either forbidden from studying them or when people no longer see the value in truth and virtue. Jordan Peterson stated, "people don't know where to find meaning in their life and one of the places you find meaning in your life is in your problems." My own living has taught me that experiencing personal problems in life won't necessarily "give meaning to your life" but rather its more likely to make us wretched. I've learned that in order to avoid becoming wretched people, seeking the meaning to our problems is the only way to acquire wisdom. The study of ancient stories and lessons will teach us the meaning of our problems and, if anything, this marks a promising beginning towards growing a conscience. But how do we grow a conscience in the midst of a human culture placing its emphasis on saying and doing anything to get what you want? Mr. Peterson stated, "if you run from the promptings of your conscience then not only do you risk drifting into a counterproductive unconsciousness, but you endanger everyone on board the ship that you are part of." There's no doubt that having knowledge of the meaning to our problems will start the process of acquiring wisdom but growing a conscience it's more like a leap of faith required from us and a voluntary willingness to come to terms with wanting to do what is best. The lessons we get to learn from ancient stories and teachings is part of the process of understanding so that we don't live by the pitfalls of life. Mr. Peterson said that "if you know anything about the rise of totalitarian states and you don't understand that there's no difference between a totalitarian state and a state where every single person lies about absolutely everything all the time to themselves and everyone they love, with lies of commission so outright falsehoods and lies of omission which is refusal to say what you know needs to be said, then you know nothing at all about totalitarian states." Historically speaking it's been people-of-conscience the ones burdened with speaking out when they know that the things taking place in society are wrong and that this is not a simple matter of becoming great noice makers but rather clearly knowing right from wrong, good from bad, just from unjust. Thinking about it, if our creator would have wanted for us to keep quiet, he wouldn't have created human beings but instead would have populated the world only with shrimp. And the story with shrimps is that while in the current they just go whichever way the current wants to take them without the least amount of independent thinking. The rise of totalitarian society begins when human beings start behaving more like shrimps in the current and less like people-of-concience. ReneB, Florida.

This happened to me, metaphoricly. Our church leaders sent us a plan of Bible Studies that we were to learn and then inact. 5 sessions. The first 3 were sameo, sameo. But then they.were heavy WOKE. I saw this plainly but the did not
I would not give it up. The Pastor suggested I attend the big meeting which was just around the corner ro see if this was indeed the case. I did. I couldn't believe it. The president asked for the group who put this Bible Study together to come forward. Then he asked us all to stand and applaud them! That was it. It had been swallowed hook line and sinker by these people. When i got home i.quit the church, i had been their for 15+ years and was the church secretary. Went to another church for about a year. God told me to go back. They had not taken on this Bible Study nor become WOKE. The president of the group had resigned, as his wife had cancer. Boy, was that close!

About a year ago I dreamed I was sitting in my car in the driveway of the home I grew up in. I was facing the house, and the garage looked like a part of the house with big windows. My parents came into view, entering that place, it was all lit up from lights inside, while the driveway area was all in greys and driftwood colors. My Dad came walking out toward my car… my sweet dad looking like I remember him in about his early sixties (he passed away several years ago at age 86). I recognized his ‘walk’. He leaned down to look in my passenger window as I unrolled it. “Don’t be afraid to go on your adventure”, he said. That was the end of my dream. I decided and prayed , ‘okay, I am willing to go on my adventure.’ But I didn’t know what that meant. Since then I have said some truths to family members and others, things I had been afraid to speak about. I’m glad I did, I was able to speak with love while being honest. It is healing, and strengthening. Love this telling of Jonah- perhaps speaking the truth my conscience has brought to mind and heart is part of my adventure.

I love the way you speak on the Bible. There are so many layers of meaning to it; I recently had an epiphany and heard God’s voice. He told me “I AM gonna use your bullheadedness” I have never said that word in my life; or read it in the Bible. After my encounter I was telling everyone that what happened in Acts Ch. 7 happened to me… so funny because a month later I googled where bullheaded was in The Bible and in a different translation it was in Acts 7

The psychologist analyst point of view is real, the realistic point of view is real, and the supernatural point of view is real. I am honored to walk in whatever God has planned for me… like David said in Psalms it was all written in God’s book before it ever happened. I know He even has foreknowledge of things that don’t take place. He knows all and sees all, and one day we will meet Christ on the other side. #judgementday is coming. Revelation 12:11

When God spared Nineveh, Jonah was very angry about it, and sat down and sulked about it, until God Showed him that the correct attitude was one of compassion for the people of that city. The reason for this is in line with the message of Genesis: God is not a tyrant. He does not punish, but allows the natural consequences of defying his laws to have their inevitable effect, hence, due warning. That Nineveh was spared indicates not only that the people there changed their ways (repented) and that Jonah's mission was successful, but that his annoyance is in line with the self-contentedness of his original attitude of letting the city be destroyed while he ran away. God's warning though His wise ones are not vengeance, but loving compassion.
