  • In this video I give my final update on the cowpeas. This plot was 128 days old when I filmed this video. I also broadcast 100 lbs of oats and 50 lbs of wheat. I also put on a small bag of iron and clay cowpeas along with some leftover pure attraction from whitetail institute. The deer started browsing on the cowpeas at approximately 90 days. If ibwere to plant them again I would definitely add a variety of seeds instead of a monoculture. Thanks for watching!

Hey John. Enjoying the videos. I own 10 acres in Camp county so all this applies to me. Thanks

Great! I hope the videos help. We just made 3 more plots last week so I'll be trying a couple of different seed blends this spring.

Plot is looking good, don't short change yourself, that is a lot of hard work.

Thanks! It really was, I was wore out after that! I wasn't sure how much would germinate with them only being broadcasted on top and only two rain events. It's coming up nicely though. Thanks for watching!

@@MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors They sure require a lot of time.

That’s a lot of work and time even for 1/3 acre. I bet your put on a few miles spreading all that seed. Are there no turkeys in your area? They seem to only show up on my land after I spread seed on my plots.

I also hunt in East Texas. I can't get cowpeas going good until they wipe them out! I bet they eat them earlier next year. You can get elbon rye from East Texas Seed Company in Tyler if you are close to there.

I'll take a look. I'm willing to make the drive. Thanks!
I'd like to plant a small patch just to see if they eat them sooner this year.
