Hey Scott, I love your design and artwork! I am studying watchmaking now and I love designs. Would it be a challenge for you to do design some mechanical watch? The beauty is the mechanical parts inside a watch. I would love to see some mechanical designs of a mechanical watch from you. Thanks again for your great toturials and artwork! :)
Really enjoyed and got educated by your books & videos. I wonder what happened to all those schoolism tutorials. Can i find/ purchase them anywhere else? Thanks Scott.
Hey there I just bought your book and while I'm waiting for it to be shipped to me I was wondering if you could tell me what supplys I should pick up to get started
As a designer, do you need to make out the physics of the design (whether the design is physically possible and can maintain structural integrity)? Or is that the job of someone else?
The more ability/knowledge you have to do that as a designer the more you can predict and influence the final functional production design, otherwise different designers and engineers will have to do that and all you will be able to help with is what color to paint it.
thanks! i was wondering because of those furniture designers (i.e single chair designers). some of them tend to have really quirky and fluid designs, and i was wondering how they could be so sure that the chair or furniture would be able to hold.
Very helpful the video, Now i got the sketches but i dont know how to render them in photoshop, because i usually use sketchbookpro. Could you make a step by step video about how to do it ? or some book or page where i could learn about it... Thanks ! you are great.
I'm working on a book on the subject and I will cover Sketchbook Pro as well. The Gnomon Workshop offers one of my educational DVDs on rendering these types of bike frames in Photoshop.
No. You can make an object look totally photo-real and the forms completely confusing. Just go for a walk and observe how many surfaces around you in the real world are very confusing to visually understand until you see them from another view or in different lighting and they are all real. To clearly communicate the form you need to precisely control the lighting and the shapes of the reflections. It's all very designed/staged to communicate the form and look photo-real.
Hi, I ordered a copy of your book from amazon at the beginning of January. But they haven't shipped it yet. That is quite weird coming from amazon. Well I don't know how weird it actually is. Do ypu know why it might be? I thought they had enough copies. Thanks, i'm really looking forward to getting it.
If it was a soft cover, then it's not there yet because they sold out. More inventory will arrive to our warehouse on Jan. 28th assuming the snow storms ease up.
I have couple of questions: when you design/sketch these bicycles, do you keep engineering at a side? I mean, in some of these design the front wheel does not turn, so I assume that engineering (in the meaning of actual functions) is not your main focus, is that right? Does the "link" between design and engineering come at a later stage?
All mobile links to UA-cam have been down for a week. We just moved all of the videos to our own server. We will have an app update to link to the new ones very soon.
what products designed by you can i buy?? can u give me names or url directions? i want to have one thing designed by scott robertson :) ----- i recibed one week ago how to draw book and it is amazing !! thx scott!!
Hi Scott, i am an international student study in OCADU (toronto). I just first year student for Industrial Design, I am thing and start to preparing the portfolio for my internship as well as master application. Would you please tell me which school is the best Transportation Design school in the world? I already know ART CENTER COLLEGE OF DESIGN. do you have more suggestions? Thanks and u r my idol.
Hi, Jiaqi, becouse my English is so bad i want to tell you, that the School (Hochschule Pforzheim) in Pforzheim (Germany) is one of the best Schools for Transportation design in the World ;)
Yes. I used to design wheelchairs for about 6 years from '89-'95 with Neville Page. In fact, one of the wheelchairs I designed back in 1990 was the wheelchair used in Avatar.
David Ferguson I agree. It's too bad that most chair design features are dictated by insurance companies and not by users. That was one of the most frustrating parts of working in that industry.
To be able to learn all this over youtube, is simply amazing, really appretiate your efforts, thanks a million for the video posts.
Really enjoying the book Scott. Got it as a Christmas present to myself.
Thank you scott! Failure is the key to new paths in design and to help improve. God bless!
Thank you for explaining this topic. I also appreciate the encouragement about not being afraid of failure.
Thanks as always for another amazing explanation about doing design and art in general:). I'm growing up a lot with your videos!
Thank you! Wow am I ever glad that someone commented asking you about hard points! Bless your heart mystery commenter!
I ride the bike all the time love it. Thanks!
Great! I should ride the ones I have more often. :)
lovely! I just started an artwork with a bike design. This is helpful! Thank you :)
I'm having so much fun with this book. Looking foward to How to Render!
Working on it almost every day now!
Love the iso app!
Very informative, I shall now watch all of your videos :)

Constraints are your friends in creativity.
Hi Scott! Could you show how you made the rendering on those bikes? Ha, bought your new book recently(hardcover), it looks great. Thanks!
Hello, great video. Do you know where i can get more info about hard points on different things, like cars, bicycles, etc?
Thank you!
+Luis Felipe Hernández González Cars, yes. Design Studio Press publishes a book called H-POINT. Check it out.
+Scott Robertson Thank you for all your help Scott.
Mr Robertson, I just pre-ordered the how to render from amazon, do you know what is the release date? can't wait to view the book!
We are shooting for a September release.
ohh, gocha
Hey there I just bought your book and while I'm waiting for it to be shipped to me I was wondering if you could tell me what supplys I should pick up to get started
Scott, did you see the loops some guy invented to replace bicycle wheel spokes? I think they appeared on Wired.
Not yet.
luv the book its so helpful thank u
Thanks!
Hi scott. Another brilliant book. Just tried the h2dr app on os. There seems to be no sound. Thanks again for your time.
All the videos have sound. They are posted on a hidden channel and working fine so maybe double check your device?
This was great. More!

hello Scott,
Is it true that making a painting photo real totally equals to making people understand the exact shapes?
Scott Robertson So I guess the best solution is top lighting like you taught us, right?
Fu Tienyueh If it's a round form yes that can work well. If box-like form then diagonal lighting will be better.
Scott Robertson I see. Thank you, Scott.

ok, that explains it. Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond. I will wait muc more calmy now.
So is the book shipped? I ordered a while ago (Canada) and still patiently waiting :)
Hey Scott. Just ordered your book from Amazon.
Is there going to be an Android App as well?
Thanks. Android apps for both books are up and running now.
Thanks a lot Scott!! I really like your work and hoping to see more books of you coming!
Are there any plans for a Microsoft Store app for use with Windows 8 Mobile?
Sorry, not at the moment, unless Microsoft would care to program it for us. I can only afford to fund two apps that are for free.

All of the front wheels can turn. The front forks are an open baseball diamond shape in top view allowing the wheel to turn at the hub pivot.
oh..ok, makes sense...
Won't work on my Iphone for some reason, I can see the 1st video but when I click the play button it doesn't take me to the tutorial video.
All mobile links to UA-cam have been down for a week. We just moved all of the videos to our own server. We will have an app update to link to the new ones very soon.
Thank you sir.

Grigorovich Grigorovski does the school use the English to teach students?
Yes of course! And i am 100% sure, because i was in the school and they told me so.
Can you show more realistic and smaller designs?
P.S. thanks for the tutorials
Sorry, I do not understand. Can you be more specific?
well you show a lot of sci-fi designs and big object like cars. I would like to see something like household object with could be real.
красиво.
противоречит поговорке:
зачем ещё раз изобретать велосипед.
Thank you.
Very interesting
What's your job?
windows app?
Nope.
Have you ever designed wheelchairs?
Yes. I used to design wheelchairs for about 6 years from '89-'95 with Neville Page. In fact, one of the wheelchairs I designed back in 1990 was the wheelchair used in Avatar.
I was wondering because, as a wheelchairs user, I find most chairs badly designed.

much better marker.. ;)
I haven't heard the name Xerox for 25 years!! 🤣
and windows users? :(
I will be thankful if you have Chinese language 謝謝
