I had to go to sleep, but i kept on watching your videos.... You excactly doing and explaining what i was wondering how poeple go to work from start to finish in concept art etc... Im not a designer but i can watch this for hours!!! (specially the sketchbook series I LOVED it) So a big thank you from the Netherlands... Hope to see more in the future altough there is much more to see here.
just recently bought this book, its a must for concept artists, ive bought many over the years but this hands down is the best its more of a learning tool then anything
Awesome. I stumbled onto your channel a couple weeks ago, and I'm loving it. I did Technical Illustration for about 20 years, and lately I've been focusing on fine art... This just gets my motor going. It's like combining Tech Illustration and Fine Art... Yeah!!! My friends think I'm crazy, but I love it. Great stuff, Scott. :)
Oh man, I´m gonna analyze the SHIT of this book! I´ve preordered it more than a year ago and I can´t believe it´s finally here! Thanks Scott for sharing this wealth of knowledge with us. You have no idea how much this means to someone who is not in a position to go to a quality design/art school. I am on the last year of the largest art school in my country, and I can say with absolute certainty that I´ve learned more about the craft of art in the few hours of watching your DVD´s and tutorials than in the 5 years spent in that school.
Thanks scott! I dont have the book cause we lack financially, but somehow i tried this technique(applied my current knowledge of course) and im impressed how it turned out to be. Ive been struggling how to indicate the ground planes to so using countour lines helped me although idk how to render it quite well digitally yet.
It´s always fascinating to me. How such lose and seemingly sloppy lines, can end up in such a nice end product. And interesting to see you scatch ahead with a copic sketch marker. And then using the shizzle tip on top of it. I have seen this only a few times.
Just received your book here in Brazil. Amazing work once again. You are a through and effective teacher. It is great to have your drawing lessons in print. Hope one day I can see them im person!
Scott is awesome and this book is awesome!! Unfortunately I'm italian so sometimes I come out with some English language problems....but I'm really hoping to improve myself one day (in drawings) following the lines of monsters like him!!
awwweesome :) I love Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.25 ... I have Copic Multiliner SP 0.03 but even though it's thiner than Pilot, it's not that silky smooth as ball pen. In my opinion Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.25 is the best pen in the world for those detailed sketches :)
Hi Scott I just got your book and I love it. I just wanted to let you know that the video option for your app on my iPhone and iPad is not playing the videos only showing the Easter eggs and showing that the videos are available but the play button does not work. Thanks for writing such an awesome book I hope that this tip helps get the app fixed. Thanks again for all your hard work.
We're working on an update. It's technically not our app's problem. Google broke all mobile links to You Tube. So we have moved all of the videos to our own server and will have an app update soon with new mobile links. All the videos still work using a web browser on ipad or iphone via the URL on page 206.
Ty for this video Scott, very nice! I learn something every time it seems. Just a heads up though, the "jet trails" achieve that look only in modern special kind of trails which are known by conspiracy theorists by the slang of "chemtrails" but their technical name is something along the lines of "stratospheric sulfate aerosols" by scientists, although the materials used are debatable, depending on the region... you teach me something I teach you something ;)
Hey Scott, I just want to say thanks for your videos :) They are so different and useful and have helped me to learn to draw something like you (but not so cool like you) And can you answer my guestion? In our country it is a problem to get good art supplies, so can you recommend something to replace the copic markers?
Just an observation but wouldn’t you want to increase the line weight on the left edge of your pipe to push that one in the background a little further? Excellent concept btw. I’m inspired!
Try the Pentel Hybrid TECHNICA 03 for finalize sketching, terrific pen. Pentel #KN103 wish we had this knowledge/technology back in the late 70's, early 80's regarding design sketching, even having categories of "environmental/entertainment design" as a field of study. I see this was from 2013...you may never see this again.
At 14:52 Scott mentions using a number 2 marker...I know they're copic markers but it has some sort of brush tip...anyone know exactly what type of copic it is?
Thanks, Scott. I am pretty awful at drawing myself (not done it much since college YEARS ago...) but I've subcribed to your channel a while back and think I'm going to give it a go again. I've just put in an order for your How to Draw book so maybe doing some of the exercies and checking out various images will inspire me to keep trying :)
Just got the book and Scott draw some seriously amazing vehicles, including cars. Just curious (very curious actually) what kind of car is drawn on page 009 lower right corner >.
Sir This is my first comment in my life and i would like to give to you because you have really inspired me to become a better artist. I'm going towards concept art and I have to say its really hard to picture a landscape and the story that goes in to the art. for me its harder because i have adhd and i find myself sitting in front of blank page for 30 minutes sometime. where do you think i should start to get in to concept art? how should i practice landscaping? And What should i work on? I have started to practice on the mech tutorials you did but i need to put them in a story. if you can answer these questions that would be wonderful. and if you can do a video that would be highly highly highly appreciated
Hello, Mr Robertson. I am getting into using Hi Tec C pen, but the stationary owner told me that now they don't produce no more of these and instead have a new version which does look exactly Hi Tec C.... I bought the old stock of course, just wondering if this info is true?? thanks
fantastic!!! anw what kind of copic marker do you use for rendering all your draw sir? (i mean the code if im not wrong... hope you can answer it quickly,) thanks!!!
Both. Sometimes I can pre-visualize an object clearly and other times when I cannot I just start drawing and then find the design through the act of sketching.
I have a question bro, I only draw for three days now, what should I try drawing? What exercises should I do?.The Artist Peter han does an exercise where u just draw a straight line and then u try to draw over that line perfectly 8 times, should I do life drawing, or forms ? What do u think I should start with
I only want to say that I very like your Videos I am a big Star Wars fan so I very like your style Maybe you can make a Video about your pens with links in the comments ( you can get money with links, if I buy this pens you should get money, becauce you are the reason ) I want to lern how to draw like you or on the same level. It is a long way but I hope I can do it with your help LG Ti
Im searching your book in bookstores , but if i dont find your book i'll go to find klasses but i dont know the name of this tekniks , what can i search about?
Both of those are still works-in-progress, How to Render will be done next, hopefully by next Fall. How to Design will come after that assuming I still have the energy.
I don't know why many people glorify Pilot pens. their pens are cool but the ink is just shit. If you want to do lines I'd recommend Staedtler-Pigment Liner or Sakura-Pigma Micron
Because ball point don’t have 100% flow like fine liners when it comes the amount of ink- they have variable flow with variable pressure. So good for construction lines
Sem D Any paper.. or if you really like to draw.. use drawing books they're cheap. In my country drawing books are like 30cents. so u can get like 3 for a dollar.
" directly from Design Studio Press" is it a problem if we get it from amazon/ebay? Let me know srsly, I'd love to support you and your awesome channel as much as possible. Tnx
+Apollo Skywalker Yes, maybe used both. I like a 0.5 for outlines and use, 0.25, 0.3 and 0.4 for other lines usually. Depends on the size of the drawing.
The entire library of Design Studio Press is quite literally at the top of my "books" wishlist. Amazing stuff.
Awesome thanks! We enjoy making them.
Every layout of two pages of the book is a masterpiece
Thank you!
I had to go to sleep, but i kept on watching your videos.... You excactly doing and explaining what i was wondering how poeple go to work from start to finish in concept art etc...

This are one of the very best videos on drawing I will be sure to get the book

*Whew.*

a friend recommended the book months ago and after one video i ordered, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks scott! I dont have the book cause we lack financially, but somehow i tried this technique(applied my current knowledge of course) and im impressed how it turned out to be. Ive been struggling how to indicate the ground planes to so using countour lines helped me although idk how to render it quite well digitally yet.
C est vraiment une technique impressionante , surtout le loose style . Merci pour toutes tes videos

I love your videos, they are exactly what I've been searching for. REAL drawing on paper with markers and pens instead of in photoshop/digital
Just found out that my copy of the book from Amazon will arrive on November 29th. Can't wait!
First pass for me here... And i am amazed by your decent work and explanation
Awesome. Can't wait. Thank you again.
Thanks Scott,
these tutorials are the best! They helped get me into the animation program at BYU!
I wish I could like this video ten times 👌
Awesome! Thank u Scott, you are really genius ...
Scott is awesome and this book is awesome!! Unfortunately I'm italian so sometimes I come out with some English language problems....but I'm really hoping to improve myself one day (in drawings) following the lines of monsters like him!!
This is great! Thanks for sharing Scott!
nice sketch, i will have to check out for this book !
I have bought the book now on pre-order (amazon) !! Looking forward to receiving it!! Cheers Scott.
Great drawing, although did you notice it looks like a giant DLSR camera... especially with the long lens at the front.
This comment is a great reminder that any object can be transformed into an interesting design.
Its not a camera
Excellent work!!
can't wait till i get my hands on this beauty, Thanks scott for making this it's really going to help me :D
Can't wait for my book to arrive haha. It looks amazing.
Great as always!
Scott, it's funny when I first looked at it, it looks like a SLR camera, albeit a giant, derelict, SLR, camera.
I was about to post that too haha
Fantasmagorici Sketch !
Wow! I love this kind of drawing some kind of futuristic things. I already subscribe your channel thank you for uploading this.
awwweesome :) I love Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.25 ... I have Copic Multiliner SP 0.03 but even though it's thiner than Pilot, it's not that silky smooth as ball pen. In my opinion Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.25 is the best pen in the world for those detailed sketches :)
Yeah, I look forward to buy a box of them :)
Are pilot hi Tec c safe for use with copic marker as far as nibs? I don’t have money to keep replacing
Man, really nice walk through!!! Thanks!//Chuck
everyday i check my amazon orders to see if they shipped my copy. i know when it comes out but still, i will continue checking everyday until it ships

I need this book.

thanks for the quick response Scott. What about that first pen ur using. the video seems to glitch when u mention it. cheers!!
Copic marker.
I didn't even see those figures until like 5 minutes 'til the end, this suddenly got huge when I did XD.
Nice Stuff
really cool.
You already answered my question in the video haha
At 14:52 Scott mentions using a number 2 marker...I know they're copic markers but it has some sort of brush tip...anyone know exactly what type of copic it is?
COPIC Sketch. Number 2 grey.
Hey Scott, I was just curious as to what your go to paper is? Do you like using bond?
I wanna help you but I can't stand it
Scared me for a bit bc i'm suppose to return to work friday. Was like "OH Sh**"!!!"
Thanks for mentioning how fast the video is.
Целую неделю ждал:)
Just got the book and Scott draw some seriously amazing vehicles, including cars. Just curious (very curious actually) what kind of car is drawn on page 009 lower right corner >.
Thanks. That one was just made up on the fly.
Aww lol I actually wanted to practice drawing with photo ref haha
Thanks you so much for the response!

Hello, Mr Robertson. I am getting into using Hi Tec C pen, but the stationary owner told me that now they don't produce no more of these and instead have a new version which does look exactly Hi Tec C.... I bought the old stock of course, just wondering if this info is true?? thanks

I mostly use the "Copic sketch" ones. The ones with the brush nib on one end, chisel on the other. Color of grey does not matter to me.
Do you completely picture the scene or object in your head before drawing or just go with the flow and make it up as you go along?
Both. Sometimes I can pre-visualize an object clearly and other times when I cannot I just start drawing and then find the design through the act of sketching.
Would you say that you're a natural to drawing or did it take a long time practicing and working to get as good as you are?
It took a lot of time and lots of practice.
The jedi master has spoken.
Sly.AL. he has spoken indeed
I have a question bro, I only draw for three days now, what should I try drawing? What exercises should I do?.The Artist Peter han does an exercise where u just draw a straight line and then u try to draw over that line perfectly 8 times, should I do life drawing, or forms ? Drawabox.com
Could you tell me what kind of "ball tip" pens you use? i'd like to try them out.
Cool!
is there going to be an e-book version of this by any chance?
What paper is best to draw on with Prima or Copic markers?
Would watercolors work the same as markers for this technique?
I like bettter too.not so pratical tho.but yeah. alcohol markers are expensive as hell.
I only want to say that I very like your Videos
I am a big Star Wars fan so I very like your style
Maybe you can make a Video about your pens with links in the comments ( you can get money with links, if I buy this pens you should get money, becauce you are the reason )

Im searching your book in bookstores , but if i dont find your book i'll go to find klasses but i dont know the name of this tekniks , what can i search about?
Hey Scott, do you have any estimate on when your other books will be in stock? How to Design and How to Render?
Both of those are still works-in-progress, How to Render will be done next, hopefully by next Fall. How to Design will come after that assuming I still have the energy.
What kind of paper are you using?
Do you prefer Sketch or Classic Copic markers , i want to become a designer and i would like to know which will be more useful .
+Atlas Özer I like Sketch, the ones with the brush nib.
Scott Robertson Thank you but which would be more useful for designing and does the brush nib relly make a difference when blending and coloring ?
You mention radius (double line technique) from "earlier in the book" - can you pinpoint that for me?
Try page 092.
How do you draw those lines
I don't know why many people glorify Pilot pens. their pens are cool but the ink is just shit.
If you want to do lines I'd recommend Staedtler-Pigment Liner or Sakura-Pigma Micron
I use the Sakura Liners and was asking myself if it would make a difference, or if it is just personal preference.
vocover microns are terribly average and they are overpriced. Ink is ink, and the pilot works for everyone.
As amatuer as i am i just use bic round stick pens because their cheap and draw fairly well
Because ball point don’t have 100% flow like fine liners when it comes the amount of ink- they have variable flow with variable pressure. So good for construction lines
What brand paper quality is best to use markers on?
Sem D Any paper.. or if you really like to draw.. use drawing books they're cheap. In my country drawing books are like 30cents. so u can get like 3 for a dollar.
" directly from Design Studio Press" is it a problem if we get it from amazon/ebay? Let me know srsly, I'd love to support you and your awesome channel as much as possible. Tnx
He said it may a take a few weeks more to recieve. Doesn't exactly know what Amazon process is.
Gboythunda Amazon has release date of December 15th as of two days ago..
Can't trust em they've changed that date several times. I been tracking progress on this book since Amazon had listed for december 2012
Tnx, I will take it into consideration!
How can I buy your drawing book?
I'm in S.Korea. Pls let me know.
Thanks.
You can try Amazon or just buy it directly from the Design Studio Press website, we ship worldwide.
Scott Robertson ok. thanks for your help~! :)
WOW
Sir may i know the kind of paper you are using? or brand maybe?
Vox I think this was done on marker paper, like Borden & Riley 100s marker paper.
Scott Robertson thank you sir.
What markers do you use?
Copic.
your awesome sir but your book here in India is way too expensive :-(
Is this in realtime or speeded?
I wish it was realtime. It's probably 3x speed or so.
Scott Robertson Oh,
What size nib is the pen? 0.3? or 0.4?
+Apollo Skywalker Yes, maybe used both. I like a 0.5 for outlines and use, 0.25, 0.3 and 0.4 for other lines usually. Depends on the size of the drawing.
I have no idea what a sludge pond is...and maybe I don't want to know....
Name of your black pen?
Jhonatan Valim Pilot HI-TEC-C
what paper is that?
Might have been done in my Strathmore sketchbook or if done in a pad it was Borden & Riley 100s marker paper.
Жаль что нету этой книги на русском,ябкупил:)
Am I the only one who thinks that this looks like an DSLR camera?
This is photo camera
I almost went blind watching this video tbh, sorry.
look like a camera
went too dark at the end bub,
Amazing work!
