  • Discover the intricacies of GPU repair in our latest video featuring the restoration of a Palit GameRock RTX 3090, initially reported as 'Not Detected.' Delving into the card's internals, we encountered a formidable challenge-a short on the 5V rail.
Despite resolving the short, the absence of the 5V rail persisted, leading us on a diagnostic journey. Our investigation revealed a critical issue: a broken inductor responsible for delivering the necessary power. With precision and expertise, we replaced the faulty inductor, restoring functionality to the card.

You are too good, are you able to share the test software that use use for vrams?

why ju just dont desolder chip to see if short is gone. why need to inject?

Desoldering and soldering each chip would take time. Injecting voltage and checking under the thermal camera pin points the faulty component so I can just remove the one that is faulty. Especially when I have to run through many cards in a day. This card took me an hour and fifteen minutes to finish, if I had to take the components out one by one would have taken me a couple of days only to identify the fault.

Hello Fraser, I have a problem with a Gigabyte 2080 Super.
At over 80 FPS the card turns off with a black screen and the fans turn on full speed.
Since the card also got quite hot in Furmark, I replaced the thermal pads and now the card stays at around 65 degrees Celsius in Furmark.
Unfortunately the error remains, if the frame rate rises above 80 it goes back to black screen and the fans run at full speed. Windows is ok in the background.
Could it be a VRAm or rather the GPU?
I tested the VRAM with mats, no errors.
Do you have any tips for troubleshooting, how would you go about it?
    Lg

If the card works when not under stress MATS will not show any errors. In this case you can try running NVMT and check if any errors show up. Now the error which you described is different. Black screen with fans spinning at full speed. Now it looks like something is cutting out power causing black screen. Do you have GPUz installed on your computer. If yes can you take a look at hot spot. What is the difference between GPU temp and hotspot. Should not be more than 15°C. I am assuming something is cutting power to the core but at this stage it is difficult to say. It could also be that thermal protection is kicking in cutting power and ramping fan speed. But this is just a theory. Can you check the temperature difference between hotspot and core and comment back.

@@GraphicsCardRepairs-tk7ql I have to correct myself, with Furmark the card runs stably at around 200FPs and 1920x1080 for hours, with Haeven VSync switched off (I only have a 60Hz monitor) there is a black screen after around 2 minutes and the fans turn up. The temperature of Core 63C and hotspot 74C is a difference of 11 degrees. At high FPS you can also hear a whirring or a coil whine.

These temps are decent. This is an interesting case. I have not come across something like this before. difficult to say at this point what could be causing the issue.

@@GraphicsCardRepairs-tk7ql Thanks for your help, so far I've always had defective memory or Mosfet. This graphics card is then put aside for now.

One should never learn repairs on a 3090 card. Buy extremely cheap broken cards and learn on them. After one learns the basics, they should but very cheap functioning cards and work on them, replacing functioning parts with new ones (not removing parts and soldering them back-I know what I'm saying). Only after they manage to not lose any card from 100, then they can start fixing cards for real.

😁. That same card came back with a new problem. Broken solder balls under memory. Reballed the same memory and the card is ready. I wonder what is going on.

Not only high end card is very complex, the PCB also is very thick. You need a very high flow hot air station even for removing single tiny smd resistor without damage tha parts and pad
