Hey Mike. It’s G from Canada. My son and I were next to you at the TCA Auction. Somehow I stumbled upon your channel which is super cool. Glad to see the Ives train running, what a beauty!!
Hey G! I am so happy you found the channel. I hope you guys are having fun running your additions to your collection. It was great meeting you both and you guys had some really nice items you won as well. Keep in touch! If you have Facebook I’m an admin for Pops O Scale Trains or Michael Lovasco on FB, either way, I’d like to stay in touch. Thanks for checking out our channel. 👍
I live in MD and went to East Main trains in Thurmont today for their official grand opening they still had the blue comet set he had in the orange hall, I don't collect that era, but the $ he has it probably won't stay long
Interesting collection. Sometimes you just gotta give it a little blow of air down the stack to get the oil cookin. …or dbl check your smoke volume settings. Good luck with the engine. 👍🏻
The new MTH Premier CNJ P47 Pacific's are set to finally arrive at MTH in two weeks on November 7th. Also, they are planning to make a new run of Premier NYC Mohawks very soon. So stay tuned.
I saw your post on Facebook about that, very cool! I have a PS3 3001 specialty set with pacemaker cars, I might order a different number Mohawk if they make it. Would be nice if the made the one at the St Louis Museum of transportation. 🙂
@DynamicDuo795 I just looked at mine, it’s cab 3100 not 3001 and has PS2 3Volt. Also has smoke deflectors that can be attached and removed and extra tender details to add. They are nice! I’m excited they are making them again. Also, thanks for the update on the P47, hopefully my Blue Comet with all the cars arrives then as well. 👍
I love the great finds you picked up, as far as the Santa Fe Northern, send it back to Lionel and make them fix it right, the wobble and the smile issues. Don’t settle on it, or if Patrick’s trains offers to take it back , return it... sorry you have these problems. Take care. Ken
Yes. The cost is ridiculous, and if you send a defective item back, chances are you'll never get them back. I bought 2 hot box refers at 150 bucks each and their circuit boards fried right off the bat
Looks like whoever built it reversed the plugs to the smoke unit. I was working on the smoke unit of the Reading Camelback I got a couple years ago last night and did the exact same thing, lol. Had to take it back apart and switch the plugs and now it's working right.
Unfortunately for that model of Northern, the stack and whistle smoke units use the same fluid basin the smoke passages are not isolated. As a result, the smoke takes the path of least resistance which is the stack. Some Lionel locomotives that have whistle steam near the stack may have this problem. Not a good excuse or justification, but hopefully a halfway decent explanation as to “why” that’s occurring.
Yes, thank you, I tried switching the plugs like some suggested and it was worse, almost no smoke either way. I’ve spent a lot of time tweaking the drive line and adding grease, there wasn’t any on the gears in the gear box, I’ve gotten rid of most of the wobble now also. The smoke unit is definitely a bad design, I guess there’s no fixing that or the color of the red paint.
What a beautiful train set! I’m shocked at the site of the layout. The last video I saw from you was still the old layout! The Santa Fe Northern looks awesome! I have also stopped buying anything under the Lionel branding. Mainly American Flyer. As far as what would I do with this engine is I would send it back to get fixed. $1500 is rediculous for an engine that works, let alone an engine that is so messed up. The last engine I bought from American Flyer was a new legacy diesel . Sent the first on back and never came back. Got a refund and ended up buying another one of the same engine. Paid $400 for it instead of the $599 thanks to a friend who works at Lionel. But I had to send it back. Same problem. Overspray of a ain’t on the wheels. So no more for me. I buy the older S Helper trains and American Models. S scale. That N&W heritage unit is awesome! You’ll love the AF Northern! The Texas Specials are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this video! Awesome trains! Enjoy! Cbtrainnut on UA-cam!
Thank you! I’m really getting more into Standard Gauge and S Scale, I’ve really shrunken my O Gauge Collection down, I’m really surprised I bought so much of it at York, mainly Amtrak and MKT though which I’ve always liked. Will be interesting to see what I redo my layout in. 🙂 I subscribe to your channel as well! Thanks for checking mine out. 👍
@Crazy4TrainsToysNHobbies Crazy I won't buy Anymore Lionel Until they Get it Right I sent My Triplex Back The Same Day I Opened it and Try to Run it Wheels Going wrong Way Right out The Box and This Has Happened Not 1 not 2 But 3rd Time This Has Happened And That's Not Good At All Considering these Locomotives Is A Used Car..😢😢😢Now I Will Only Buy Mth Premier & 3rd Rail Locomotives
@davidjohnson4918 man! Sorry to hear that David, now you are #6 that I know of with issues with the Lionel Triplex. You can’t go wrong with MTH, all 3 of my MTH triplex’s never had an issue and still run strong. I hope they get it sorted out for you. You are right, even if they were only $500, not $2500, they should not have issues. I didn’t even consider a Lionel version.
Thank you for the offer, I am going to wait for now since I have preorders coming in. I have the new release O gauge MTH Blue Comet with PS3 and 9 or 10 cars for it that should arrive any time now. I appreciate the heads up.
Lionel also got the B&O heritage unit csx 1827 with wrong color, the real one is Grey similar to the C&O, I guess they used the off white that they used on the f3 postwar remake
That’s interesting for sure, maybe the same color on one of my 2 KCS SD40T’s. They were released the same year and are two different shades of light gray or one is sort of an off white. Substitute paint color maybe? 🤔 lol
Hey Mike, we talked about this subject, i can barely walk around the table. I wish i could have caught up with you at cass, but the nissan was in shop, wifes charger blew a engine, we traded them both. Got two new subaru.
I may be a Southern junkie, but I gotta admit the Texas Special cars look nice with that red on them. Even the real-life ones looked good. Speaking of Southern, btw, I hope you do a video on those Southern F units and those Marklin locos you bought as well.
Thank you! They are the tuxedo livery, one of my favorites. I do like the green and white also. I’m make some videos. 👍 thanks for checking out this video!
Nice haul! The Standard Gauge stuff is absolutely gorgeous. It's too bad that Lionel's QC ain't so good, as that steam engine is a real nice locomotive. The off-color is strange, as the Santa Fe logo on the side has basically the correct color. I think that Lionel does most of their stainless steel cars with the fluted roofs, which indicates Budd cars, as Pullman's stainless steel cars had the smooth roofs. Either way, you got some cool stuff, for sure. An excellent video, as always.
@@Crazy4TrainsToysNHobbies I missed you at York. I was hanging with Ray and the 3Rails/4Dads crew. I ran into Brian from Brian's Train Room, Nick, from NixCrossing and a couple of others. I always tell them that I like their channels, plus I got a number of new subscribers, to boot. Once again, a fine haul.
I would send it back. You pay out the butt for a locomotive it should be flawless in every aspect. So yeah I would send it back to Pat's and get my money back Mike.
Thank you Jerome, I agree. There was other stuff I wanted from MTH or Atlas but I took a chance on this one because I thought I’d like it. I’d rather spend my money on the other stuff at this point. 👍
I don't personally have the money to buy new engines but I certainly would be buying anything from lionel from all of the QC issues I see you having with your purchases. I will stick with my few MTH products that I have.
MTH has been really reliable for me as well. From our very first conventional set we bought in 2000 to the latest releases in 2024. Knock on wood, it’s really good stuff. 👍🙂
Mike! You really acquired some treasures there for sure. I was sad to see your dilemma on The Lionel SF steamer. At $1500, I would be ticked as well. I would be leaning towards selling the Greenbrier. The only Lionel I am willing to take a risk on these days are diesels and rolling, which in my book are still questionable? Enjoy that Olymian set!
Thank you Joe! I have had good luck with the diesels, the only two issues out of all of them I have owned and currently own, are colors and I had a UP SD90Mac that I really liked but wouldn’t go into programming to assign a cab number and the same for a Pennsylvania U28 or 30C, I can’t remember which because I returned it. Have a great day my friend! 🙂
@@Crazy4TrainsToysNHobbies Thanks, Mike. You have a great day too. I forgot to mention that Sean Morgan from sean's trains figured out what the issue was on the Lionel triplex. It has something to do with loading. The 2 digit versus the 4 digit cab number and a switch up on the top of the loco, because he was able to duplicate the problem and then fix the problem. So he's hoping that lionel figures it out
Thank you James! I’ve purchased several things from Patrick, only two with issues, this one and my Northern that was his custom run black bonnet. Not their fault, good ole Lionel’s. 😉
I had a layout if you watch my channel it all, people were shocked I tore it down. Money is definitely not an issue for me, lol. I just wanted something different and have a few loops to test run stuff right now. Thanks for watching and your comment. 👍

Mike , You purchased a great haul. Especially the Marklin locomotives. Me being a Marklin fan that was a great haul. That Lionel loco that was given you so much trouble I would get it fixed. The cost of that locomotive isn’t cheap and you want to enjoy it. That’s just my opinion. Happy Railroading my friend. . The new Lionel is great with all the sound effects but the post war and prewar seems to have less problems. Good luck.🚂🚂
Hi, thank you! Marklin has really grown on me also. Agreed, the prewar and post war are far less problematic since they are more basic. Easy to work on also, we definitely love those! We also like the experience of running the modern stuff for the bells, steaming whistles, and sounds for sure! They are a lot of fun but the quality control isn’t there with Lionel. We haven’t had an issue with any of our MTH or Atlas stuff that we’ve purchased brand new. So that’s going well! 👍 🙂
That’s great the other brands don’t give you problems. Iam not real big in O gauge not because I don’t like it but because I can’t gave everything. I have Marklin Z biggest collection. I have Marklin HO , LGB, and some Fleischmann trains from years past. And then comes to my Slot car collections from 1/32,1/24, and AFX Ho . All the best.
@@Crazy4TrainsToysNHobbies I understand completely about putting on the shop but they have a more direct line of communication and will probably get a lot further with Lionel. I got stuck with a Trolley and didn’t want to cause the shop problems but that was only $90 or so. $1500 is a different story.
@Crazy4TrainsToysNHobbies you're always welcome. I bought 3 protosound 1.0 diesel like new and two work so perfectly I'm get the third on this Wednesday and that on is like new too
It really needs to go to Lionel so they can replace whatever axel that is bent or wheel that is out of round so it fixes the wobble. I’m sure they will says it’s “it’s just a toy, don’t be so critical” like the last time I sent one in, then it ended up more scratched and damaged when I got it back and they tried to blame it on the shipping company. That’s why I don’t want to deal with Lionel.
I can't believe you were sucked in by the shiny, new Lionel engines. 😊 Resist the temptation and purchase only old Lionel or new Atlas/MTH. I hope you enjoy the items you did get. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, we often forget our past experiences, when we get excited in the heat of the moment. That is what makes York so exciting, yet scary, at the same time. 🙂
Mike my friend your luck with Lionel and my luck are the same I’ve just about stick with Mth And Atlas I mean every thing I by from Lionel always has to go back even my scale polar express cars and the engine sorry I had a family death and couldn’t make the trip By the way I’ve rode most of the Katy one of the best rail trails I’ve rode and have done many
Hi Dennis, my condolences for your family and your loss. We will catch up someday. That’s awesome that you have ridden the Katy. I was riding it a lot this summer to rehab my leg. Lots of scenery and we often jump on it to ride from home to Main Street St Charles for Coffee and breakfast, or in the afternoon to get an ice cream! Yes, sounds like we have similar luck with Lionel. I was a HUGE supporter and fan at one point. Not so much anymore. I do like MTH and Atlas a lot though. Solid cosmetic finishes and no issues with electronics or operating. 👍
NICE VIDEO MIKE. LISTEN, YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE A HAMMER TO THAT NORTHERN. JUST SEND IT TO ME AND I WILL GIVE IT A WONDERFUL HOME RIGHT NEXT TO MY 2900 BLUE GOOSE. DEAL? 😉🙂
Funny! I’ll probably sell it like I did with most of my stuff from my large preorder a couple years ago. Some people aren’t as bothered by the colors being off as I am or cosmetic stuff that I don’t want on brand new locomotives. Good try though! 🙂
No question about it. Get your money back. Besides the smoke issues the red sucks. Reminds us me of the Conventional Classics F3 AA from years back that had the flat red cabs
I definitely agree, I like when I buy early tmcc F3’s that were made in the USA, they come with a bag around them with initials of who inspected them before they put them in the box. I’ve never had a cosmetic issue or operational issue with one of those and at one time I had collected almost all of them. Amazing how it works when someone cares about quality control.
If I paid that much for a locomotive I would definitely want it to work like it should
Thank you Charles! 👍

@Crazy4TrainsToysNHobbies you're always welcome. I bought 3 protosound 1.0 diesel like new and two work so perfectly I'm get the third on this Wednesday and that on is like new too
@PedrotheOscalecollector 👍
You’re making me worried that my on order Lionel old rivets gg1s are going to have off color paint. 😟
Let’s hope not, that should be a neat set. 👍 I didn’t order it but I’m looking forward to seeing it.
I would send it back to Lionel for all the money you paid it should run perfect
Thank you, agreed. 👍
Send it to JD stocks he can fix it, I am pretty sure that's the right UA-camr, he did custom work for RBP trains
8:03 Disappointment express.
Yes
Oh this is going to be good
For sure! We found some good stuff.

Mike, send it back; sad !
Thank you, I appreciate it. 👍
I can't believe you were sucked in by the shiny, new Lionel engines. 😊 Resist the temptation and purchase only old Lionel or new Atlas/MTH. I hope you enjoy the items you did get. Thanks for sharing.
Agreed! See, I broke my own rule and paid the price….literally. lol thank you Scott! No more “shiny” distraction for me.
Yes, we often forget our past experiences, when we get excited in the heat of the moment. That is what makes York so exciting, yet scary, at the same time. 🙂
@scottstrainloft5965 absolutely! 🙂
Just buy MTH.
Mike my friend your luck with Lionel and my luck are the same
I’ve just about stick with Mth And Atlas I mean every thing I by from Lionel always has to go back even my scale polar express cars and the engine sorry I had a family death and couldn’t make the trip
By the way I’ve rode most of the Katy one of the best rail trails I’ve rode and have done many
Hi Dennis, my condolences for your family and your loss. 👍
SEND IT BACK
Hi Howard! I hope all is well! Thank you. 👍
I thought you were getting out of the trains in 0 scale months ago
No, just certain roads and scaling back with O gauge which we have significantly. Down from 350ish locomotives to just over 100 now.
Send it back..
Thank you, the wobble drives me crazy more than anything, I’ll have to send it back to get that addressed, I’ve tried everything I know of to fix it.
Prussian T18 locomotive
Thanks Raymond! I need to learn more about the European locomotives, I really like them 👍🙂
Nice
Thank you
@@Crazy4TrainsToysNHobbies ur welcome
@@Crazy4TrainsToysNHobbies 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🙂
Big train
I’m hooked on those, and really like G scale/1 Guage also now. 🙂
Lionel quality has gone to s***
Appears to be so, I gave them one last chance after several bad preorders a couple years ago. No more wasting money on Lionel for me.
@@Crazy4TrainsToysNHobbies It is sad, the JLC line was amazing, never had issue but they really have gone downhill. I only buy the older models now.
@kgtrains I don’t have any issues out of the JLC line either. 👍
Please return the Santa Fe. You aren't happy and you spent a lot of money on it.
No question about it. Get your money back. Besides the smoke issues the red sucks. Reminds us me of the Conventional Classics F3 AA from years back that had the flat red cabs
@davenichols8489 thanks Dave! I appreciate your comment and checking out the video. 👍
Lionel is way out of control with their prices and it's ridiculous, I will not buy any new stuff from Lionel at all way too expensive
And its not quality stuff either unfortunately , nothing but problems with new lionel
The prices are crazy, $150 for a caboose now for example. It’s a piece of plastic and doesn’t even have an operating smoke unit. Crazy!
Okay cool. More stuff for me.
