  • Troop 457 endures frigid temperatures while camping in north Georgia. The younger scouts learn to use a map and compass and everyone learns that camping in cold weather can be fun.
Capturing video on this trip was difficult because the cold temps caused the batteries to drain quickly and you couldn't be without gloves for more than a couple of minutes. We managed to get some though, and even with the challenges we all had fun.

We don't see temperatures that low here in the Southern part of the U.S. very often. You must be used to it.

We just finished camping at -12° in a parachute canopy at Snow Base in MN. A few of our younger scouts tried but had to go back while waiting for water to boil 😅. Below -5 you have to keep moving even with the right gear on until you get in your sleeping bag. Good job guys 💪

Wow, -12 ain't no joke. Bet the Scouts learned a lot on that one.

Reminds me of trekking Mt. Mitchell , NC in snow with the Boy Scouts about 48 years ago. We called it "Polar Bearing". Great video !

Dang camping at that temperature must be hard! 15 degrees was how cold it was the first day of winter here in Luxembourg :)

The biggest challenge is keeping the water from freezing. We normally have a campfire at night but at those temps we let the scouts keep a fire going all day to have a source of heat.

I’m still cold from watching that! Got a hankering for some biscuits and gravy too. Great video as always!

Been there done that .....but these times you never forget . We use to carry our water in 5 gallon Jerry cans ...we would put them in the fire just to wash dishes and make oatmeal in the mornings....good times!!!

Don't see many Jerry cans anymore, lots of plastic but boy they were tough. Thanks for watching.

We made spaghetti with boiling water and step away from the fire to eat and your spaghetti was cold in three minutes . Had a spring camporee that was 18 both nights and bare chested OA dancers ....didn't take long to do Tap outs of new OA members .

We came in with 2 feet of snow. we had to dig out places for tents, trailer, cooking, etc.

Living in the south I've never even seen 2ft of snow. That's pretty serious camping.

Below 32 is cold especially if a little wind and humidity come along with it. Thanks for watching.

In South Louisiana we didn’t get many chances to get our Polar Bear badge, but we finally got it!

South Louisiana here too and we got ours back in January at Avondale when it got down to 27 just long enough to count for Polar Bear. Doesn't happen often but we made it! Then we went camping two weeks ago in 100 degree heat and got Solar Bear. :-)

    • @OutsideDog

There is a Troop of young ladies that uses the same facility but they meet on different nights and we never cross paths except for high adventure trips like Sea Base. Everyone pretty much knows each other from school tho.
