I love the theory that vault tech did it. Also the fact you don't see the bombs exploding in air, but always from the ground implies that they were remotely detonated
Based on how far away the explosion is, you wouldn’t see a missile, and that’s how probably all or at least most nukes are used in the fallout universe
Even though the Vault Tec one is the dumbest one possible. The company that made money by selling seats in Vaults and contracts with the US Government willingly chose to end the world and thus kill its ability to make money? And yeah, you wouldn't have seen a plane drop the bomb. The plane would've been a speck in the sky at 42,000 feet. As for a missile, by the time the Sole Survivor would've been able to see anything, it would've been a mere warhead falling from the sky with no smoke trail or anything to indicate its location.
@@randomlyentertaining8287it’s actually the opposite of what you claim. Vault Tec had to make sure the peace agreements didn’t workout because their enitre company relies on “selling the end of the world.” Despite this fact, I don’t believe Vault Tec launched the first bomb, I believe they planned on it but for a later date. Another missed detail is that he and his wife had divorced which is why he is working the party. It would make sense if the bombs dropped she sends out agents to get her daughter and only the daughter, hence why he never knows where they go.

Also america has a no strike first policy so it literally has to have quick nukes if subject to a preemptive strike.

That's the whole point, lol. Micro electronics was never invented apart from the pip-boy, which was the smallest human technology could get. That's why the machines were big, bulky and Extremely inefficient as the nuclear era combined with fossil fuels brought in so much energy that humanity didn't care to be more efficient which led to the exhaustion of the resources followed by the resource wars, the Sino-American war and finally the Great War. MrHuntHunt We kind of know about some places, like the UK where Tenpenny came from, he came to "make his fortune" and that suggests if he came to the Mojave or anywhere in the states, the UK must be in a state. Plus Europe had a massive civil war after they'd finished fighting in the middle East for oil. What happened to places like Africa and South America where they had no missiles maybe?
Pretty sure that third world countries were not affected by the nukes but they are still affected by the stock market crash when major countries disappeared
If nothing else, we see what happened to the globe in Mothership Zeta. (Spoilers) Also, we know that a large chunk of the world got re-screwed by a death ray from outer space.
I think it's best that we never find out who dropped them first. It's been a mystery for over 20 years and it should stay that way imo. The speculation is one of the most fun and interesting parts of fallout lore.
speculation is the fun part about most lores which is the reason why these fucking prequel movies usually destroy the entire lore in one go. Star Wars, the Thing and many more. People speculate and make up intereting theories and when the prequel drops, the real exlanaition doesn't hold up to these standards and just sucks. Lore is like a good horror movie. 15:00 ish? Regarding Vaulttech theory. Late to the party but remember that the Vaults were meant as experiments. The experiments CANNOT be carried out unless the people enter the vaults. It is possible that the intent was to launch one nuke to scare people into the faults. Presumably that nuke detonates near Vault 14, since that vault requires the area to be irradiated. But Vault 0 wasn't ready yet, indicating they didn't intend that command and control vault to be sealed. The plan then would be 1) launch single nuke 2) scare people into vaults 3) seal vaults 4) conduct experiments on inhabitants using 5) govt and media contacts to cover up this fact and claim vaults cannot be unsealed now (many can't). We know that the government was complicit in the experiments planned for the vaults, since the Enclave knows what they are. But with tensions too high, the counter-nukes were launched, and they did as best they could.
Vault tech did not really need to do experiments if it's just about making money from the sidelines. They just needed to look sciencey and pay senators.
The whole Vault Tech experiment was made after the Resource Wars, between the EU and the Middle East in which nukes were used, this scared the USA who came up with Vault Tech
The Enclave didn't know every vault's experiment, also in that case control vaults wouldn't be necessary because there is already a still functional (if not paranoid and sh*t scared) society outside. Vault 101 would be redundant too as all vaults would be doing it's experiment and so would Vault 88 (from the Vault workshop DLC in fo4), which was supposed to receive more dwellers after the initial batch unless of course it was impossible. Good idea though.
"Now we must remember to take this with a grain of salt. Because the Fallout movie was never made, this film treatment is not canon." Oh boy did this line age. Aged Badly? Aged well? I don't know :D

An entry in Vault 81 secret wing (fallout 4) says the Vault Tec scientists thought they would "get more warning" and the "something must have gone wrong." So, Vault Tec?
I think you're reading too deep into it. I think they meant they thought everyone was supposed to get more warning, but instead only had a few minutes to prepare before the bombs fell.
Dude I absolutely am obsessed with your vids about the why's and how's and what's about stuff in fallout lore. I missed alot of the stuff you've showed while killing and looting as fast as I can while playing through. You actually have read all the logs and such. Keep it up.
n bo Seeing as the devs on New Vegas had a very limited time slot in which to make the game, they likely would have fleshed the desert out far more than they did if they could.
n bo If anything the infrastructure would be more intact due to both the fact that there was a missile defense system in place along with the fact that Las Vegas is in a desert which would mean there would be little environmental decay due to the low precipitation.
3 and 4 were written by Bethesda. That's really all you need to know. For better or worse, depending on your tastes, those game worlds were built to be playgrounds for the player, not to be immersive settings representative of an actual post nuclear war world.
(J. Smith) Exactly! I think Vault Tech did it to follow through with their sick, twisted experiments on people without getting into trouble or before they were suspected of it by civilians. I think Vault Tech dropped bombs in America AND in China to upset both countries so people would hide in their vaults for their experiments. They were prepared.. hurrying to get people to purchase places in their vaults and rushing their classes/teaching (as we saw in Fallout 76), pushing it into *3 MONTHS* of training, and they had communication methods prepared and rules/regulations/time stamps set up.
Ausra 18 it’s kind of odd how the ‘vault tec rep’ was saying so much about “total atomic Annihilation” and 4 minutes later, the state gets nuked....????
Vault-Tec needed the bombs to drop. They had experiments on dwellers to perform, no dwellers would be present unless there was a reason for them to actually go to the vaults
If you look at the Mutually Assured Destruction theory, it explains that a scenario in which nuclear destruction is halted only because it is a lose-lose scenario for both combating forces. According to the theory, all bets are off if one side would destabilize the situation by the presence of missile defense or by, get this: *by the construction of shelters in a massive scale*. This would make the US less fearful of a so called "second-strike" by China, which is basically retaliation when the attacker fires their nuclear arsenal. Knowing that China had very capable infiltration operatives, and judging by how ridiculously the vaults were marketed to the public, China would easily catch win of this and potentially fire their weapons. But the more likely scenario is that China would build their own vaults to get the situation squared-out, just like the USSR and the US did in the cold war to even out the odds of MAD destabilizing, I can even back this up because since the reality of vaults popping up in the US wouldn't take long to leak to China, they waited several years to take action. So my guess is that that US, knowing they would survive a second-strike from China, launched their missiles to end the war for good and play the long game for the remaining resources of the world. With the enemy dead, there's no rush, right? That would not weight in for the Vault Tec theory, I would just assume that the US government would take advantage of the vaults to end the war. What do you guys think?
@@AugustoXRock I think it was def. china but not because of that theory rather because their backs were against the wall. They might've had the "if we don't have fuel, nobody else does" mentality. the U.S. already had superiority over the rest of world so no reason to launch the nukes unless they're trying to do population control on their own people but that's a little silly.
Krzysztof Zukowski What makes you think their backs were against the wall? I don't think the decision would boil down to such a level with that mentality. My guess the answer is much more complex than that. Considering the developers used a ton of cultural references to make the game, not only pop culture ones, but deep level philosophy.
Another point in favor of China dropping the bombs is Mr House. He was able to predict the attack within a day of it happening. This means that it had to have been something that could have foreseen ahead of time. Wars are not lost overnight, so House must have calculated that the USA was about to win a decisive victory, and that the PRC would not let that happen.
Yeah, total war becomes an impossibility when both countries have nukes aimed at each other. The day the enemy breaks your lines and storms your country, you launch your nukes. It's fucked.

11:00 I doubt that they had 38 in the whole US. That’s either a regional command or a specific unit’s command. The US would never have that little of an arsenal, so while the idea that aliens did it is still possible but that was not someone talking about the US in general. 34 artillery, 42 aircraft? THREE divisions of light infantry? That is not an army, that’s a small defense force (maybe Anchorage, Hawaii’s, or *maybe* the smaller of the commonwealths). Not to mention there’s like 20 warheads in The Divide alone. Of course maybe Bethesda just doesn’t understand how comically small a military that is.
"Ready to fire" is the key there. And resource war...with a huge chunk of the U.S military being busy overseas, hell when disorder started happening in the U.S they had to recall troops to ensure order..not deploy but actually bring troops home But for the ICBM's, the U.S has 4,018 nukes( barring ones waiting dismantlement), only 1,411 are on ICBM's (673 of them) not all of them are on high alert.(ready to be fired at a moments notice) The U.S may have had millions of nukes, it doesn't mean it has all or even a large number of silos to house them and fire the moment a threat is detected Being in a resource deprived state many of the nukes would have been dismantled that were deemed not needed to ensure M.A.D
This seems like ignorance on the part of OP, IRL the US had 20,000 warheads by the end of the cold war. It has since been (apparently) trying to reduce that number but I doubt it will ever be reduced to 38, not to mention in the FO universe the US probably would have increased nuke production.
@@epithet052 not to a large degree when there is an active need to conserve the material Nuclesr material was used ectensively in this universe..it helped mitigate the rapid depletion of oil But even that had to be split between both civilian and military uses during an increasingly strained energy crisis, one that ramped up to a point where the U.S had to divert soldiers from the offensive to try and control riots While there are almost certainly more than 38 nukes total, since they only needed to hit china they would've canablized a great number of the stockpile to try and fuel the country...to prevent unrest and losing the war because of it Hr also never said they only has 38 nukes, merrly 38 on alert. 3:39 I feel like there's a story behind why Log 673 is missing, maybe the Log had important information mentioned in it, which is why someone took it from the Terminal.
Imahine if it was like that submarine situation during the cold war, where misinterpreted light rays make one side think that the other was launching nukes, so both are doing it out of retaliation, even though neither wanted to engage.
I think this would be the best way of doing it imo, I think one of the bigger points about fallout is showing that people suck, no matter what side you are on.
There were some plans for Fallout Extreme featuring China, but they were pretty stupid. The franchise's whole aesthetic doesn't really work outside the USA. (and that's fine, you just gotta recognise the limits)
Metro 2033 basically works for the Russia side of things, probably. (Fun thing, that game has implied/character speculation that there's so many ghosts in the world because the nuclear war blew up heaven and hell!)
Unreal Environments - Speed Level Design I think the franchise's message is that who shot first is irrelevant as both powers had reached thier breaking point
Unreal Environments - Speed Level Design I was always under the impression that a company like Vault tec set off some nukes, in order to trigger a war. Haven't watched the video, I've been playing 6 hrs straight. I swear Fallout 4 can bend spacetime 😂🙈
Unreal Environments - Speed Level Design that's cause it doesn't matter to the themes of fallout and having an answer actively ruins a lot about the fallout universe.
I definitely remember reading a terminal in a vault-tec corporate building or something like that, talking about launching nukes. Unfortunately I cannot remember any of the finer details so it helps no one but it hinted at vault-tec doing their evil vault-tec business and launching one or more nukes for their personal interest. What better way to speed up your plans for vaults and experiments than to give people a very good reason to get in those vaults.
I remember speaking to a self aware AI computer in a vault in Fallout 1 and I can’t quite remember the details but it had information about this, I think that was the computer that caused the Great War.
@@Drastigaterfallout show - Vault Tech did it, whether it be via influence or actually committing to it. Though really it was their idea in cahoots with other multinationals at the time.
I may have a theory, however I've only played 3, New Vegas, and 4. One of FO4's loading screens shows a pristine green automobile and the caption says "America in the year 2077 was a land of advanced technological achievements... and terrible civil strife. As in any age, most ordinary people wanted only one thing - a happy, peaceful life. What they got was complete nuclear annihilation." It is my thought that maybe with civilization struggling, a terrorist attacker could have detonated a nuclear type warhead in china to provoke them into launching an attack on the United States. Terrorism is never stated in the games as far as I know but it may be a possibility.
I have mixed feelings on how to deal with Zhao . Like yeah it’s been 200 years , the war is long over but the man launched 5 nukes that killed millions of innocent people (entire families , women and children , the elderly)
Plus your character wouldn't be removed from such thoughts as blame. To them it wasn't that long ago life was good but then BOOM! I don't think anyone could blame them for opening fire on one of the guys that pushed the button that lead to the end of the world. For a wastelander the question of who fired first really doesn't matter as it was 200 years ago but for your character it was rather recent and also because of the bombs their spouse was murdered and their son stolen.
@@admiralalex1000 firing nukes back is just as if not more so despicable than firing initially, youre boned anyways why drag millions of innocents along with you? You have nothing to gain and millions of innocent lives to lose.
That's probably the biggest inconsistency in the fallout universe. We got terminals because lacking in electrical component invention, so no powerful computers. Yet, you can still fit complex AI in something the size of a mr handy.
@omgwtf696969 it's not whether it is possible, it is the miniturisation. You could only fit a complex AI inside a Mr Handy Body, if you have CPUs with billions of transistors on them. But then we're left hanging for a realistic explanation for the slow and crappy terminals. The terminals suggest something akin to a Z80 (1970's) CPU, while a Mr Handy would suggest CPUs beyond what's available on today's consumer market.

Guess what just got revealed 💀💀
@@randomlyentertaining8287it’s actually the opposite of what you claim.
America and china: fuck fire evrything
Vault tec: sad inhumane experiment noises
@@matthewdoherty803 vaultec after realaising evry vault we saw did its experiment: Happy psychopat noises

Only 60 years left....

...holy shit I'll be 80 by then...
If I'm still alive, to any who have made it and somehow UA-cam is still a thing, well...cool. If I'm dead before then, then neat, you're speaking to somebody dead. Idk what else to say.
Holy shit i didn't even realised it

If we turn into ghouls we can live until 2287
An entry in Vault 81 secret wing (fallout 4) says the Vault Tec scientists thought they would "get more warning" and the "something must have gone wrong."
So, Vault Tec?
There were definitely some major conspiracies going on involving Vault-Tec, I don't doubt they had some form of involvement
@elijah mikle I prefer to completely forget the mere existence of FO:76. **shudders**
I think you're reading too deep into it. I think they meant they thought everyone was supposed to get more warning, but instead only had a few minutes to prepare before the bombs fell.
@@Captain-Sum.Ting-Wong oh hey Cpt. Wong. How's Wi Tu Lo, Ho Le Fuk, and Bang Ding Ow doing?

Dude I absolutely am obsessed with your vids about the why's and how's and what's about stuff in fallout lore. I missed alot of the stuff you've showed while killing and looting as fast as I can while playing through. You actually have read all the logs and such. Keep it up.
You forgot to mention the warheads that House's defense system managed to defeat.
Something8830 care to explain?
Pot Head Exactly, and with massive Lazer cannons on the roof of the Lucky 38.
n bo Seeing as the devs on New Vegas had a very limited time slot in which to make the game, they likely would have fleshed the desert out far more than they did if they could.
n bo If anything the infrastructure would be more intact due to both the fact that there was a missile defense system in place along with the fact that Las Vegas is in a desert which would mean there would be little environmental decay due to the low precipitation.
3 and 4 were written by Bethesda. That's really all you need to know. For better or worse, depending on your tastes, those game worlds were built to be playgrounds for the player, not to be immersive settings representative of an actual post nuclear war world.
Captain zhao. Just nuked Boston.
'Omg no one in Boston helped us'
I think it was Vault Tech
_Why else would they be so prepared?_
If you examine the Bomb in Megaton from Fallout 3, there is clearly a Vault-Tec logo on the side of the undetonated bomb.
Maybe....vault-Tech could have made bombs of the U.S., but Chineses syps could have stolen them, of there own uses?
They got an early warning, like the army. That’s why the guy at fallout 4 was urgent
Wrong. The v.t. logo has 3 stripes on each side and the logo on the bomb has 2 stripes.
@@trevorphilips4925 he predicted it WITHIN a day. That is, he thought it would happen on October 24th, 2077. It happened on October 23rd and the chip was supposed to be delivered in the afternoon of that day, however the world ended during the morning
I still find it odd that China targeted over two dozen nuclear warheads at Las Vegas.
No one wins when it comes to nuclear weapons.

I think the best way to find this kind of stuff out is to get a fallout game based in China. Reasons being obvious since, well, china logs, info and lore. Design wise China was also, according to a brief amount of evidence a 50s cyberpunk like country. Lastly, lets be real. It would be pretty cool to see China's side of the fallout.

You suggestion are great, but the story will have a hard time passing censorship XD!!

I doubt that they had 38 in the whole US.
And resource war...with a huge chunk of the U.S military being busy overseas, hell when disorder started happening in the U.S they had to recall troops to ensure order..not deploy but actually bring troops home
But for the ICBM's, the U.S has 4,018 nukes( barring ones waiting dismantlement), only 1,411 are on ICBM's (673 of them)
not all of them are on high alert.(ready to be fired at a moments notice)
The U.S may have had millions of nukes, it doesn't mean it has all or even a large number of silos to house them and fire the moment a threat is detected
Being in a resource deprived state many of the nukes would have been dismantled that were deemed not needed to ensure M.A.D
This seems like ignorance on the part of OP, IRL the US had 20,000 warheads by the end of the cold war. It has since been (apparently) trying to reduce that number but I doubt it will ever be reduced to 38, not to mention in the FO universe the US probably would have increased nuke production.
@@epithet052 not to a large degree when there is an active need to conserve the material
Nuclesr material was used ectensively in this universe..it helped mitigate the rapid depletion of oil
But even that had to be split between both civilian and military uses during an increasingly strained energy crisis, one that ramped up to a point where the U.S had to divert soldiers from the offensive to try and control riots
While there are almost certainly more than 38 nukes total, since they only needed to hit china they would've canablized a great number of the stockpile to try and fuel the country...to prevent unrest and losing the war because of it
Hr also never said they only has 38 nukes, merrly 38 on alert.
Thr huge focus on nuclear energy makes it..difficult to maintain a massive stockpile while your people need it.
Imagine if the U.S was running out of power..and the military had enough to power it for years, how violent do you think the nation would become towards the government if they chose to keep it on the backburner while people starved and couldn't power their home?
Anima Manager I don’t know what you *think* “OP” means, but it almost always means “Original Poster” (the comment that all of these replies are on) on the internet, and calling me ignorant not only is demonstrably false, it also doesn’t make sense in the context of what you said (you seem to generally agree with what I actually said).

I laughed, it's clear he did it in a silly manner in purpose.
God I know they’ll never do it but I would absolutely love to see a fallout China
There were some plans for Fallout Extreme featuring China, but they were pretty stupid. The franchise's whole aesthetic doesn't really work outside the USA. (and that's fine, you just gotta recognise the limits)
Seth Rich Is still alive Really solide points guys^
It would be cool if there was a fallout game that’s based in different countries
As much as I would love that, it'd be hard to maintain the same tone of fallout in a foreign country
Metro 2033 basically works for the Russia side of things, probably. (Fun thing, that game has implied/character speculation that there's so many ghosts in the world because the nuclear war blew up heaven and hell!)

Unreal Environments - Speed Level Design
I think the franchise's message is that who shot first is irrelevant as both powers had reached thier breaking point
I think it was a pointless video, we all know han solo shot first
I definitely remember reading a terminal in a vault-tec corporate building or something like that, talking about launching nukes. Unfortunately I cannot remember any of the finer details so it helps no one but it hinted at vault-tec doing their evil vault-tec business and launching one or more nukes for their personal interest. What better way to speed up your plans for vaults and experiments than to give people a very good reason to get in those vaults.
This is driving me crazy because I remember this too but cannot figure out where and no one else seems to remember this.
@Random Man that's a myth and the other guys are suffering from the crowd effect
@Random Man yeah, i think the nuke in Megaton has the vault-tec logo on it
I think that was in the non-made Fallout Movie, that the mc would find out Vault Tec launched the missiles.

What they got was complete nuclear annihilation."
It is my thought that maybe with civilization struggling, a terrorist attacker could have detonated a nuclear type warhead in china to provoke them into launching an attack on the United States. Terrorism is never stated in the games as far as I know but it may be a possibility.
Collin Winkel, I have to give you credit for that theory man. It could be a possibility.

But then we're left hanging for a realistic explanation for the slow and crappy terminals.
The terminals suggest something akin to a Z80 (1970's) CPU, while a Mr Handy would suggest CPUs beyond what's available on today's consumer market.
