That was fabulous. From the first time I saw Roxy on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' in '73 (?) I've been hooked all my life. Just become a Pensioner. Several lifetimes later, this song has been a loving companion through thick and thin. I'd be happy to do it all again. Ebb tide dreaming.
@@MrPomdownunder Yeah, some silly show called "How I Met Your Mother". They cut out the uptempo first 2 minutes, kinda ruining the whole song. A and C, it really irks me sometimes that such a seminal work of art only becomes popular because of some TV show that abuses the song. Oh well. 😅
It really is shocking. The band and the song is both hard hitting and dreamy, a musical work of art. I'm laughing here, cause I'm 14 years your Senior, and didn't discover the song until the year 2022! Hope you yourself keep discovering great music.
Roxy just hit on all cylinders here. Bands like Zeppelin and the Beatles and Stones got so much credit; but one has to feel after listening to this opus that Roxy could've been anything they wanted - from an arena anthem band to an intimate jazz venue.
Ditto. I first heard this song on WHFS, which was a tiny, little FM radio station operating out of Annapolis, MD, back around the summer of 83 or 84. It immediately became my theme song for that summer and I still love it to this day. It'll be one of the songs that will be played at my funeral, along with Bowie's "Heroes", New Order's "Your Silent Face" and Mazzy Star's "Unreflected". I can still remember jetting through the Maryland darkness after midnight on those torpid summer nights, when the sweet scent of mimosa and honey suckle hung redolent and heavy in the humid air, my mouth dry from beer as I rocketed down Route 50 to Annapolis and last call at one of the bars that surrounded the dock. Windows open (no AC), a cyclone of wind swirling (like my life at the time) inside the passenger compartment, radio blasting, bass thumping.....man those were great times.
The most underrated rock band in the U S A , Bryan Ferry has been an major innovator in rock music, and has lead his band through triumphed tours globally. I hope you were lucky.
Erika Fiore Well I first herd and fell in love with the band in the late 70's and saw them in concert in 1980 at the Oakland Coliseum, But, it Bryan ferry and his band that included Ray manzerick of the Doors fame. It was great. They did a lot of Roxy music, if not all.
@@TerrenceHewittCMA And I thank you, too. America's taste in music always needed a lift, hey? Brit groups like Roxy and TRex never seemed to hit the State's conciousness. Oh well, Great Britain's gain, and our loss.
Saw them backstage at the Academy of Music in NYC....what a band....great performance.... something I'll never forget.... Ferry came out in a red leather suit.....dancing his way up to the microphone
When is the Reunion tour? It's a pleasure to see such a creative band still going! If Roxy would come to Chicago, I'd love to see them instead of some one grand ticket to see Elton or Mick.
Along with Love's "Forever Changes Live" DVD, this was my first order online after I got a computer. To put it in better perspective, I got it from Tower Records. LOL! This is probably the most beautiful concert DVD ever put out. _Stunning_ visuals! And, hey, Lucy Wilkins. I saw this tour in Chicago. Wow.
In 1978 I swapped a Ramones album and at the ripe old age of 14 I was introduced to For Your Pleasure. I remember being astounded that there was a song about blow up dolls Bogus Men A certain Grey Lagoon and so on. If it wasn’t for Roxy Music I might’ve ended up being a Japan fan 😉

OK here is a funny story, for one I can't BELIEVE this tour was in '01 seems like yesterday! I was getting ready to go out to see this concert (Los Angeles), and a buddy of mine whom I had not seen in years shows up at my door, so I apologized and said OOOOOO you picked a wrong time to visit me, I have a concert to go to, and you know what he was so sweet, he waited for me until I returned back from the show. I mean yes I felt a wee bit guilty, BUT this was the "mother" of all reunion shows, and I was not going to miss it! LOL Looking back I'm glad I didn't, he turned out to be a REAL JERK!
Auf dieser Tournee waren sie auch in Dortmund! Es war der absolute Hammer! Diese Spielfreude, dieser Sound und Bryans Superstimme die exellenten Musiker! SUPER!!!
Wow excellent version. After having pulled Ferry's ear for a speeded up live version of Oh yeah that can be found here on UA-cam, this time a great bow for this fine version of MOP.
He hasn't lost a step or note. Great phrasing. Unfortunately no manzarek to play the blues in the background. The juxtaposition of his hip crooning and the blues guitar made it for me.
Chris Spedding provides some of the bluesy riffs in the background. I think this version surpasses the original. It is a shame Ferry's voice isn't now some 21 years later what it once was in this performance as I would love to hear this live again. I guess I will just have to cherish this version and play it over and over.
Bryan's always been too cool for school. I think this is better than the original version, this drummer, "gets it." I just want to mop up some of that talent from the stage with my with my hankie and sniff it in my moments of self doubt.
It's speeded up, isn't it? And yeah, it's sort of had half the élan pasteurized out of it. See the 1974 version on the Musikladen YT channel. Merité un détour (Worth going out of your way).
I guess that a studio version has the advantage of being re-edited or re-engineered. But G.E., I still thought that they did a really good live job on this.
