It's a Peugeot RCZ R as shown by the twin exhausts, which is no joke. 267bhp from a turbocharged 1.6 litre four cylinder, that's more power than this mk3 Focus ST has from its 2 litre. It also weighed only 1350kg which is nearly 100kg less than the Focus ST. It was and still is no slouch.
I'm actually surprised it was even this close. I think this video did the opposite for me it was intended. Seems the ST is fine for a driver/highway pull car- always surprised with how hard mine pulls. Undoubtedly the RS would kill the ST on a track, but that's what my other cars are for. Cool. I canceled my RS order back in October, I think I made the right call.
I bought an ST over an RS because I felt like I was getting 80% of the car for like 60% of the price. My ST3 has the exact same interior as the RS, except I have full leather instead of Alcantara, which is a benefit because Alcantara gets gross if you aren't meticulous about caring for it. Additionally, the 2.0 Ecoboost engine is a lot more sturdy than the 2.3 because the 2.0 is closed deck.
From everyone I’ve seen and talked to the RS models have more problems than ST. I also chose an ST because all the rs in my area were heavily moded and riced out. It sucks that I didn’t get AWD but for the price there was no way I wasn’t going with an ST.
15K is quite alot, you could build a new closed deck block with all forged internals and slap a big turbo on it for that much. And the RS's can't take much power mods on the stock block since they have a tendency to blow head gaskets.
old ST with 2.5 litre engine tuned was faster than todays 2 litres. It produced around 45-50 kg torgue from low revs and with lightweight Oz rims it could beat many Ferraris back in the days.
@@petrus3801 From what I´ve heard "Subiperformance a youtuber engine builder" they are also pretty bad... most of the block, that wanne get more power need Dalton Sleeves! Because they have the same problems, like the older P60 Volvos ;-)
Very awesome video! Definitely not regretting getting the 2017 Focus ST myself! I do have one request, though! Do you guys think you can turn the intro music down a little? I love that you don't overlay the music during the videos, and the music itself isn't bad at all, just it's a bit louder compared to the rest of the video, and compared to other videos I watch while my headphones are set to the same volume. Keep up the great POVs!!
The difference is far less than i thought it would be. On paper it's huge, but it looks like in real life it isn't that much. The one big killer is the AWD on that RS.
The best automotive engineer imo. They create such a wide array of interesting products. Ford designers are also really talented at creating great looking designs.
ST is a great hot-hatch, but the fact is the ST is 350 kilo lighter. While ST is down on power by 100 hp at crank, the 4wd on RS will get 280-290 hp at wheels while ST might end up around 210 hp at wheels. So in a simple straight line comparison the ST is 350 kilo lighter and about 70-80 hp less at wheels. Also important, the RS has quite some downforce/drag compared to the ST... draw the line and the relative small differences in acceleration from a roll are not that surprising. Take them to the track, or twisted roads, or rally type environment, or less than optimal weather and there is no comparison between them anymore. And is logical too, the RS is the top/halo product of Ford Performance and it has to show it when it comes to performance.
I do miss the Autobahn. I complicate all meine deutscheland drivers. To be able to drive at 250Kmps for 30km is very impressive. American's are not trained to handle such speeds, but we do try when we go to Germany. I do aspire to return one day.
Kangaroo Jack For years and years I felt the same! Now I own an 08 plate on stage two remapp with a bunch of other mods. Owned it nearly three years and still absolutely love it. Hope you got one too 👍🏻
rs has lot more low end power, but top end is fairly flat. Power drops off after 5,700 rpms. You should shift to next gear around 6,200 rpms in higher gears (3, 4, 5) - to stay in better powerband.
The shift light exists for a reason. The RS drops 50 hp between 6000 and 6500: when the shift light lits up, shift, you just make it slower if you dont.
OMG did anyone else find it funny that when the RS was doing the test run on the freeway he put his signal to get in the fast lane? By that time he was going around 80+ mph so one was trying to pass him on top of that he's being cautious yet driving 130+ MPH on a public road 😂
Funny to see that the European Foci get a nicer audio control and a cover over the cupholders. I wouldn't mind that. The Sony knob looks kind of cheap.
You got the numbers wrong just sayin . Kinda through me off for a sec. The front-wheel-drive Focus ST uses a 2.0-literturbocharged 4-cylinder, which is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. It returns 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is 23 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, while going from a standstill to 60 miles per hour comes in the low- to mid-6-second range. Meanwhile, the Focus RS comes with standard all-wheel drive. It touts a 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes an impressive 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is expected to be around 20 mpg city/30 mpg hwy, while the hatchback's 0-to-60 time is in the high 4-second range.
Fact1: The ST maintains the same distance in speed above about 110kph. Stays within about 18ish KPH. This means, that between about 100-220 the ST is almost the same. Thats insane. I know that the RS is heavier and there is a lot of loss due to AWD and a bigger drag coefficient. But still 100hp more. And more hp is glorified at high speeds. But not this time. Fact2: The RSs are not making 350hp most of the times. This sample should be a weak one (lets say 325hp) Fact3:The weather is crucial. ST went in a slightly rainy, very humid colder(?) conditions, and the RS in was warm(hot?) dry. For this much tuned turbocharged cars this could make huge differences in performance. My RS is very fast, but one day I tried it in a foggy 9 Celsius degrees day...and it was like a teleport machine, car was much stronger at the high end. And highend is mostly crucial on highways. SO there you are, the RS would be a bit more quicker in the exact same conditions Fact4: ST is an awesome package as it is (comfier everyday machine with plenty of power and awesome cornering capabilities)
I assume the facts are wrong but the cars are correct and ST is on the bottom RS on top (since it was faster). Was it the same driver for both videos? The ST does a pretty good job keeping up (doesn't seem too far behind) but you can tell it's not handling the shifts quite as well. If it's anything like the Fiesta ST they forgot to upgrade the Engine mount in the Focus ST, It looks like they upgraded it for the RS (or the driver was just taking it easier in the RS or shifting better). If you're driving the ST like that often, I'd definitely get an upgraded engine mount, I think that would help.

Just a though. I don't think most ST owners even knew about the RS as it was harder to find in the US. But if they did and had the extra $ they probably would have went with the RS. Because it smokes the ST in a strait line and in the corners.
I like Ford cars, always have, but I have not liked their dashboards lately. Also, I wish Peugeot would bring their cars back to the U.S. I miss seeing them and my Uncle always reminisces about is Peugeot diesels.
The ST is honestly not that quick as it is made out to be. Alot of it has to do with the hard, low suspension, big-bolstered seats, manual shifts, small cabin with bad NVH and in-car noise amplification systems that give the falsified feel that you are going really quick.
Hard suspenion, recaro bucket seats, standard transmission, and small cabin makes the car go slow? Obviously you don't know what you are talking about. All of thoses things contribute to good handling characteristics. Car weighs 3200lbs. You're the one thats slow
