The manual transmission from Ford shifts anywhere between 250 milliseconds and 1 second, whereas the DSG from Volkswagen shifts at 8 milliseconds.
Manual transmission, proper mechanical diff, permanent all-wheel drive and 4 pot brembo brakes. I'll choose easily the ford over the golf even if i'll lose speed

I like the golf r more, simply because it is fast and practical enough for daily use. I personally really like the styling of it, i think it looks cool. The interior is definately better than focus rs'. Overall a cool car.
Why compare the rs3? That's in a other league. The s3 is the same platform as the golf r, main performance difference is the tranny being 7 speed, though the mk7.5 now has 7 speed as well
That Focus RS interior does not look like it belongs in a roughly $40k USD car. Add in those widespread head gasket failure issues on stock RSes and the Golf R easily wins. lol at those saying the Golf R is boring, it's doing exactly the same thing the RS is and it's faster. If you want a manual you can get it that way too.
It cannot be faster, all drive tests showed that Golf R i slower on acceleration even with is so overrated DSG, and compared to the Focus on track, it simply sucks, if i know well Golf's used Ford's rear suspension for quite a while, compared to the Focus on track Golf acts like a Prius. Yeah , on a daily routine the Golf R is more practicable, but that is not the point of buying a Hot Hatch , get an a3 TDI then. No my friend, as all statistics and test drives showed that in Hot Hatch class the Focus RS beat's the Golf in every aspect , acceleration, track and very fun to drive. And that is why I'm making the papers to lease one. If the Golf was better, no doubt i would buy it, My father owns a 2010 Tuareg wich had several minor problems, but again i own a 2.5T Kuga that destroy's it on the road>:)))))))

Golf R just does not engage with the driver..quicker shifts due to automatic. Mature interior.. In short RS is for petrolheads I feel, like the Type R, Sti.. Golf R is more mature.. Like an Audi.

My co worker owns a RS, I own the R... He wishes he would have saved $7k and bought the R. It tracks way better, and is a corner monster. The RS is like a cheap japanese car on the inside, and the R has a well packaged interior.

The Focus is all about "hey, look how fast i am" where as the Golf on the other hand looks really plain with just a hint that it is not just your moms daily. The Golf is faster aswell, i know its manual vs. DSG but is it Volkswagens fault to have superior transmission? Even myself as a die hard manual driver know the beauty of a finely tuned DSG system. I prefer the Golf all the way, its just a quality car. Outside and in it just screams quality. The focus is a cheaply made car with a loud exhaust and some steroids in the engine bay. Much like the Mustang they put all the production cost in the engine and neglect the rest of the car.

The Golf is faster aswell, i know its manual vs. DSG but is it Volkswagens fault to have superior transmission? Even myself as a die hard manual driver know the beauty of a finely tuned DSG system. I prefer the Golf all the way, its just a quality car. Outside and in it just screams quality. The focus is a cheaply made car with a loud exhaust and some steroids in the engine bay. Much like the Mustang they put all the production cost in the engine and neglect the rest of the car.
The R is so much more refined!
