Excalibur Destruction Challenge: Lock and Load

  • One of the toughest stress tests for any crossbow is to leave it cocked for long periods of time. There is a lot of stress and pressure placed on the limbs and trigger mechanism when the crossbow is cocked. Excalibur Crossbows are designed to handle that stress and pressure, but we wanted to see just how much it would take.
So, we cocked our Excalibur Crossbow and left it outside in the elements for 2 weeks. It was exposed to rain, snow, freezing and thawing, under full load.
Many crossbow manufacturers recommend that you uncock your crossbow every 3-4 hours. This can be a problem when you're sitting in your tree stand, but the Excalibur Crossbow recurve limbset is designed to be tough enough to withstand being under full load for a long period of time. That gives you the confidence and assurance that, no matter how long your hunt might last, your Excalibur Crossbow will still perform.
    Excalibur Crossbows are simply tough.

This is why I bought an Excalibur. Little pricey but worth it.

That's impressive, I had two tenpoints. Broke limbs on both bows. Leaving them cocked to long. I own two excalibur crossbows now. I dropped mine on the scope more than one, still shot a bulls eye.

Excalibur’s are the best bow out in the market right now. They are durable and they can really put down any game animal that you hunt. I had a Barnett Whitetail Pro STR and I had to take it back to Bass Pro Shops 4 times because the string and/or the cables were fraying. This was with less than 50 shots with each string. Keep in mind that I waxed the strings every 5 shots. I hated that bow because every time I had to go to BPS it took me an hour to get there and an hour back.
I found out about Excalibur’s and decided that I was going to sell my Barnett and get an Excalibur. I ended up with one of the top of the line Bulldog 440 and due to my inexperience with the recurve tech I had my bow stuck on anti dry fire mechanism so I left it cocked the whole night thinking I screwed something up and then I took it to the shop for repairs. They were able to figure put the issue in a matter of 2hrs and it just wasn’t cocked correctly and the ADF mechanism wouldn’t let the string down for some reason. Not sure why but it seems to work well now and I haven’t had any problems with it. I did change the stock string to a pink 1992PP string from Excalibur for fun! As soon as I put the string on I went to the backyard to test it and I was prepared to be sitting there for a while sighting in the bow but I took 1 shot and hit dead center of the bullseye. I couldn’t believe it and their cs is the best. You can’t go wrong with an Excalibur especially not a Bulldog 440.

@@EroticOnion23 you can’t beat the Bulldog 440. If you have one I know you’ll agree with me that it’s a beast and to be honest, I don’t think anyone will need a xbow that can shoot over 400FPS. I chronoed mine at 450FPS with the airbrakes, the SDS kit, and I used the Proflight bolts with the lighted nocks. My limbs splintered once when I left it fully cocked 48hrs in the summer of 2019 in my trunk and when I shot the bow, there was a splinter. Called Excalibur and they had new limbs sent to me almost a week later and I bought an extra set of limbs just in case it happens again and I’m on a safari. Lol.

@@iHustleLXXXI Have you tried to string-cock the thing? I couldn't do it (I might have if I was taller). Thinking I should have gotten a crossbow that didn't have such a long powerstroke...necessitating a crank is a bit of a hindrance I think... :/

I’m really picky at everything I do. I’m a tool and die maker. I have a Matrix Mega 405. I learn early on from Jim about keeping the brace height set. I can’t even guess how many times I’ve had to adjust it after having it set and sighted in the night before a morning hunt. Wake up at 4:00 am to go and look at it and the string had stretched overnight. I’d say 500 to 600 times at least. The limbs have split out four times. I’ve had limbs from Pennsylvania, Canada, Michigan. The scope fell apart. It at this time has another issue. I had to machine the head/riser to get this set of limbs to fit in the pockets. I’m talking about never knowing weather you can hunt or not. I’ve had multiple strings sent to me. So if anyone wants to buy this indestructible bow get ahold of me. I’ve put up with this for years I’m finished with the simplicity. I bought it because everyone said you can’t hurt them and you can fix the string yourself lol. That is all I have done is fix it. I am a very very careful person so I treat my hunting equipment like it is fragile. So no naysayers. It had white glove treatment since the first day I took it hunting and the limbs split.

Did you use a thin string ??? Seemed to go up pretty easy when you cocked it...
