Hi Alix, if I was a pilot I'd be opting for that IWC hands down. At a glance the legibility is trumps, however because I am not a pilot and look for that "cool' factor, well its Omega all the way brother..😊😂 Nice comparison 👍
The new 3861 Speedy sapphire sandwich and the new IWC Pilot Chrono 41mm (blue dial) are on my shortlist. I feel like "I should" get the Speedy because of its notoriety, heritage, and story; but do you think it's too ubiquitous? I have a lot of black dial watches - and no pilot styles (love the legibility), nor do I have any blue dials. What do you think??
IWC is great as an everyday watch. Its Day-Date complication is useful to wear often. It's an automatic so you don't lose time if you forget to wind it everyday and the complication. The Speedmaster is great for special occasions with its slimmer profile and cleaner watch face, especially the thinner watch hands.
What makes the Speedmaster look more classy are, in my opinion, two things. For one, the lugs are rounded off and also, the Tachymeter scale makes the watch look smaller. The IWC has much more face area for its size compared to the Omega.
The Speedy is more iconic due to its history and the mere fact that it is so well known among watch enthusiasts. I would also say the Speedy is more versatile (for different occasions) because it's a smaller watch. But that being said, the IWC Pilot 41 has the most wrist presence! I also feel the IWC has the best fit/finish. But, obviously it gets down to personal choice and you can't go wrong with either one of them.
I’m next to buying the IWC IW378002 as my first luxury watch, for my 40th birthday. At that price point there are other chronographs like Tag Heuer Carrera, Breitling SuperOcean, Omega Planet Ocean, Zenith El Primero, Panerai Luminor,… even a Rolex Explorer or Milgauss if I chose not chronograph. I’m really having a hard time deciding, but after trying this one on my wrist in a shop, it has the best feel of wearing. The watch as a whole feels very well done, not as bold as a sub watch, but still a proper presence on the wrist - elegant but also sporty looking. Plus the metal bracelet feels exquisite, by far the best compared to the others. I hope I won’t regret my decision 😬
I just picked up the IW388104 for my 46th birthday. It's not my first watch as I have others in my collection, including the Omega Speedy. They both get equal wrist time. The IWC is a beautiful watch and a great daily wearer. Has a very nice presence on the wrist. Great quality as well and excellent in-house movement now! Enjoy! You won't regret it. :)
Nice video! I own the 1861 Hesalite Speedy as well as the IWC Spitfire Chronograph with the newer 69380 movement. I love both ones equally and they get about the same wrist time. Like you said, they are very distinct watches for different occasions. 👍
@@christopherpadilla3481 the speedmaster is the more all-around watch and can be both elegant on leather and sporty on metal or NATO. The IWC is a great daily wear, but will never be comfortable in a suit, IMO.
yesterday I was in Geneva... went to IWC and saw the Petit Prince Chrono... very nice watch... they also had the newer one with their in house movement (about 1k more)... it is a big watch but it looks great... tried also the speed master 2 months ago... the speedy moonwatch looks better on my small rest...
After an invitation from the British Royal Air Force (RAF), IWC developed the Navigator's Wristwatch Mark 11, based on the calibre 89. One key requirement was for the movement to be protected against magnetic fields. They are also the official watch of the Top Gun Pilot School
I have a speedmaster Prof Saphire sandwich, but the IWC is gorgeous. Im on the fence between their Big Pilot 46 and this 43mm chrono. And dont get me started on their perpetual calendar watchs, those are my grail watch lol
The Speedmaster shown in this video is the previous generation model, NOT the new one with the 3861 movement which you have incorrectly mentioned here.
The IWC in your video is a replica, not an authentic. The sub dial at the 9 o'clock position is switched with the one at 6 o'clock on the original watch. There is a reason why replicas cannot match the proper dial placement which I won't go into here but it has to do with the mechanics of the watch.

It hard to tell over UA-cam but the IWC is much more legible as you describe. For me this was the deciding factor.
It really is easy to read in any light and any angle.

Nah most people do t care about the tool and iconic characteristics.

tommy013p my exact situation...same same rolex 40, this, or sub...what did you get, and what was your feeling!?

How would you characterize the occasions for both? I'm considering them so I'm curious

IWC Forever!
Nice watches. I like the IWC big pilot very much though:)

new IWС Chronos with in-house movement have 41mm, it is smaller than 42mm Moonwatch.

The biggest difference IMO is that the IWC is a real pilot's watch, and the Speedmaster is a racing watch adopted by astronauts.
Iwc imo seems to carry more brand prestige than Omega, what do you think
I think IWC has its own space, similar to but different than Omega
To watch nerds, yes, but not to the general public.
Helpful video - thank you !
I’m just here for the opening music
I had a local musician make it for me, I told him I wanted something that sounded like Herbie Hancock.
Both are nice, but Laco’s Kiel .2 schwarz is more impressive for me personally.
I have a speedmaster Prof Saphire sandwich, but the IWC is gorgeous. Im on the fence between their Big Pilot 46 and this 43mm chrono. And dont get me started on their perpetual calendar watchs, those are my grail watch lol
I would LOVE an IWC perpetual calendar!
I have a speedy and tried on the 41 chrono today. I real wanted to like the IWC as it looks beautiful but once on the wrist it wasn’t doing it for me.
That's why my Speedy is still in the case!

Thanks for the correction.
I believe it is obvious however that the Speedmaster is older, it has visible patina.
The second hands on your clocks in the background don't matchup :)
They don't hack, so it's hard
IWC all day
Great video. Many thanks 🙏
Great video - thank you!🙏
IWC all the way!
The new IWC Pilot 41mm would be a better comparison now, no?
If it were also the new Speedmaster, sure.
@@TalkingTimepieces Strong point!
Very nice comparison
Thanks!!

Well, I no longer have that watch so the issue is moot
IWC 'S pilot watches need more lume.
The speedy and IWC screams to be on a strap.
❤
I really don't like the colour of the speedmaster's dial, it's too dull.
A shiny dail would reduce legibility. The IWC is a bit better looking, but legibility is also the goal there.
@@TalkingTimepieces I understand that but they could have got a matte black dial instead of this greyish colour.
@@ronniep9272 I don't see it as gray, maybe some fading due to age. New Speedmasters have black dials.
