Adding this beautiful piece to the top of my list!
My meteor Lunar Pilot will be delivered tomorrow. I am partial to silicone straps. I have a black one and a red one ready for rotation.
I kind of appreciate the thought behind this watch but at the same time I can’t help but notice it’s just the Explorer with unnecessarily busy face.
Hi Alix! Great show! On the subject of Ultra violet lights: it can also be used to see dial face to see if original or has been retouched manually! 👍 All the best!
Saw this older video of you. How did you end up knowing about technology/science so well? Did you major in that field in college? ua-cam.com/video/C0rwRzpb4q0/v-deo.html
Lately I've been snagging an antique alarm clock here and there. Recently acquired a neat little bedside wind-up clock. A 'Slava' brand, about 3" diameter, 11 jewels, and made in the USSR. To me, the old USSR and Russia, in general, has always had a certain mystique, an ominous aura of sorts. Raises questions in my mind about the history of Russian horology, and whether or not there were (or still are today) commonalities in timepiece design and manufacturing. Might be an interesting topic for a future episode !!! This little Slava clock is in awesome condition, runs perfectly. Probably from the 1950's. Have a great week!!!
Hey Alix! Darn it, I missed your livestream, but just enjoyed the replay. Your audio is perfect, the new mic is a score!
Hello from San Antonio, Texas
Hello @cmockb2 , from Guthrie, Oklahoma !
Hi. Thanks for video. I have a watch Breiitling but I'm not sure if it's fake or not. can you help me check it ?
I’m 25, and I’m thinking of buying my 1st Rolex this year and I was able to try a 36mm, I’m a smaller guy so for me it fit me pretty well, and I loved it! The jewelry store I’m buying from has been around since the 50s, and are known for selling and having good deals on 2nd hand Rolex watches, there’s this beautiful white gold bezel, stainless steal datejust he’s selling for $4500, my only concern is there’s no paperwork or box, but it does come with a one year warranty, and like I said, the guy has been in business since the 1950s, it’s a family owned jewelry store and even told me he is so confident that it’s real that if it’s not, I can go ahead and sue him so I think I’m gonna go through with it, but I don’t know, I was really hoping for at least the paperwork, what do you guys think?
I’m interested in a 16234 linen dial. Something about it just screams class and something that is hard to come by nowadays, which makes it even nicer.
A linen dial on almost any watch shouts class, it is a cool finish. I wonder why more don't do it now
I bet it’s 16mm thick
Probably
Like mension before wind the watch 1 to 2 times a mounths. If often just worn like 2 days and sit 2 - 5 days and wind again, get a winder. The more time you adjust the time and pull the crown, the more you wear the crown and its parts. Oil is worthless after 10 years whether the watch is worh or not.
I think you may he a little rough on your watch. Be gentle
What sort of power reserve ?
Don't know. I don't believe that power reserve is an indicator of quality
Thanks … I’ve just ordered one and no mention of reserve … after googling the movement it appears to be 40 hours which is fine by me 😊
Nice channel too 👍🏻👍🏻 From Australia 🇦🇺
@taineanthony2007 Thanks!!!
I find their MSRP to be overpriced, but they are much more reasonable on secondary markets. My interest in this brand was sparked when I saw a black Museum Classic, which looked incredibly clean, minimalist, and elegant. Although they are primarily a fashion brand now, I wouldn't mind owning one if I can get it at a fair price.
Good point.
This Messerschmitt is actually bigger than the original WWII Fliegers that were 55mm diameter.
Good to know, they probably went big because there are now regular watches almost that large today
Absolutely 💯% true.
Entry level is entry level. Stop being such a sensitive snowflake.
Did he really pay €500 for a shitter? 🤣
Gaelic and Swedish are not even in the same range!
You are correct, I misspoke
Leather black❤
Does the band also fit on the normal santos 100xl?
Not sure, its a 24mm
It’s literally the only Speedmaster alternative.
Agreed!
Agreed!
Great stuff Alix. Like you said, compared to the smart watch crowd, we are a small group of peeps. I own a very nice collection which includes Omegas, Rolex, Tudors, Breitling, Zenith, Cartier , Squale and a slew of Seikos. When I see a young person with even a Casio F-91W on their wrist, I get excited and cannot complement them enough. I would never tell them," hey nice "Entry Level" watch. You'll get there some day."
Exactly, glad you liked the episode!
Send me close-ups of your collection front and back and I'll do a subscriber review!
Their prices are great !
Good value
Looks cool
Agreed
Super fun!!
I’ve bought 3 of their watches because of the unique features and design. Thanks.
They're nice, aren't they?
Enjoy watching your vids, sorry i missed the stream.
Glad you like them, see you next time!
Hi Alix! Great show, sorry I missed it(jet lag)! Recently on a flight to Portugal: I saw a passenger with the nicest vintage solid gold Lemania 48 (circa 1950-60s), these watches were sold at that time at Swiss airports, etc., they were considered entry level chronographs (hand wound) back then, nowadays are very sought after by collectors, everything is relative. On the same flight a gentleman sat next to me, talk to him(shooting the breeze), when a saw that he had a Breitling day/date (seldom seen), congratulated him for a fine watch which his grandchildren had bought him, you could literally see a smile from ear to ear from him. This model from Breitling has an ETA movement which has been tweaked to have much more precision, case finishing is extremely well done (a real beauty). Noticed a guy at a coffee shop wearing a square mechanical with a rich dark blue dial, congratulated him on his watch, he told me that he didn’t pay much for it, told him of his impeccable taste 😻, another ear to ear smile. Everyone loves their own watch, be an embassador to the watch community! 👌❤️👍 During the zenith of COVID-19, I was in line to get some hardware at a store, noticed the gentleman in front of me had a mechanical chronograph, told him: Nice chrono, he insisted for me to try it, it was a Raymond Weill! Trying it & congratulated him for having such a fine watch. I made his day during what seemed somber times. Being positive doesn’t cost you a dime & makes people happy beyond what you would expect. These weren’t entry level watches, they were their loved belongings which were ready to share their love with seeing I was one of their compadre 😊👌❤️👍
Exactly, everything is relative. Watches can (and should) be more than just a money flex. We should all support one another in the watch community, and you definitely made their day recognizing their pieces.
Great show and points made Alix. About 2 years ago on about effing time while doing a show about what advice they would give to their younger selves if they met themselves earlier in their watch collecting journey. Adrian Barker made a great point about the same thing. His words were that as collectors we don’t need to go “up” the proverbial ladder when collecting. People obsess about getting more expensive watches to get out of that “entry level” zone and it’s just watch marketing. Retailers trying to get collectors to spend more money. Longines make some amazing pieces as does Hamilton but I call neither of those brands entry level. Some avid collectors have been collecting for many many years and only collect Hamilton. I would not call them entry level collectors as they may have extensive knowledge of horology and watch collecting. I have heard people “stupidly” say that Tudor is entry level Rolex. Absolutely crazy!!! There are amazing (and interesting) pieces at all price points. Thank you for a great show!!!
Thanks for the kind words, I'm really glad you liked the episode!! Great points about watches, too!
I totally agree Alix. I think it's funny that they call the VC Fiftysix an entry level watch, suggesting that it's lesser than the rest. I tried on the Overseas and found the Fiftysix was a better fit for me and I liked it better than the Overseas. I buy what I like. I don't listen to these snobs who think buying a watch is all about keeping up with the Joneses. Watches don't have to be expensive to make you happy. Fiftysix over the Overseas all day long.
I agree, thd Fiftysix is an awesome piece, and it is insulting to both us and the watch to call it entry level. Glad you liked the show!
I had the same thing with the OP36 silver with the gold indices over the datejust 36 with silver dial. The OP was “entry level” but i didnt need the date and im not a fan of the fluted bezel and with the yellow gold markers with steel body, I gravitate to it way more also the taper was much better than the explorer 36 taper which goes to a diminutive 14mm. And at £5300 was not from my background as a blue collar guy an entry level price lol
@CTizer exactly
That guy , saying my ex wife was "entry level" set me off, .... laughing!
I know, right? Too funny!
Great episode today Alix, really enjoyed it. The phrase "entry level" really sets you off. Lol.
You don't hear people calling a BMW 3-Series an "entry level" BMW, right? It is just an arrogant flex. Glad you liked the episode!
perhaps "entry level" is just used to abbreviate a longer less-flattering sentence regarding quality and price of certain watches.
So a JLC Polaris automatic is a lower quality than the date model? A Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix is a low-quality piece? Do people call a 3-series BMW an entry-level BMW? That language is not helpful or informative.
@@TalkingTimepieces yes, a 3-series is entry level BMW (and quite possibly entry level among many brands not just among the serially produced Germans). Yes, the FiftySix is an entry level VC. There are quality and price differences which should be defined somehow. And that "definition" is helpful only in a broader sense of discussing what level of quality is present.
@johnd-xd9sn good luck with that
@ you sound unwilling to acknowledge quality differences...pure ignorance. So good luck with that yourself
@johnd-xd9sn you seem to be unwilling to not be a jerk, you revert to insult easily.
I hear what you're saying about entry level but I think that term is used into the entry into a prestigious brand. Just like you made a comment as I'm typing this message about cars. Same thing. There isn't an entry level Rolls-Royce but there is an entry level Toyota. If you can get an entry level Rolls-Royce at a decent price then it's a good thing
One can easily use different language to express the concept. Is a Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix a cheap watch? Yet people call that entry level. Disparaging langugae doesn't help or inform anyone.
Hey, while perusing the very popular online shopping venue (starts with an 'A'), I came across some interesting horological-related jewelry, in the form of small watch movements made into cuff links and tie tacks. Interesting items. Might be a topic for a future episode someday....different forms of jewelry directly tied to horology. Just a thought .......
Good idea, I have a couple of pairs of movement cufflinks myself!
Hey Alix! Just a great episode today, 100% in agreement with the topic. Being pretty new to watch collecting, I'm trying to do my part expanding the hobby to others. So far, my oldest grandson and two grand daughters have been 'bitten' by the bug. My son-in-law is coming around, too. I love seeing them excited over their latest timepiece purchases, even if they're only in the 'less than $100 each' range. It's a blast! And just an awesome hobby!
It is! Just remember to wear the watch for yourself, not for others. If they like it that's icing on the cake.
What is the purpose of the NATO-style strap? It’s not an actual NATO and doesn’t appear to have a real purpose of preventing your watch from falling off should the lug pin break. I noticed you cut yours off.
Yes, I don't like the double thickness. But i like the look. I know it isn't as functional, but I don't treat my watches roughly
116600 SD4k is truly special! It's also rare as they only made 27,000 of them! Lucky if you own one!
Nice review. Good content. Do more of these if possible.
Send me yours!
Great collection (in my extremely inexpert opinion), this was fun to see!
Glad you liked it!
Beautiful collection. My fave is at 9:40, the Omega, what an awesome piece !!!!! Thanks for sharing, Illusive Man, and you too, Alix!
With pleasure!
Absolute shitters galore
Nice! You got it pretty good brother. I’m actually from Puerto Rico, born and came to NYC when I was young. Rado is actually huge in PR, I believe a middle eastern family moved to PR and opened a watchmaker shop over there and started to sell Rado DiaStar and it kicked off. In any case great video. Cheers
Very cool!
Is it a 39mm or 42mm? What's is your wrist size please! Thx! Great video !for me the best configuration is the grey nato strap
It does work well on a NATO, agreed. My wrist is 8 inches and the watch is 42mm.
Nice watches.
