I love the bangs on her! And I love the fact that the hairdresser straight up told her she couldn't go lighter. I've had friends who had their hair DESTROYED by "professionals" because they wanted a result that simply wasn't doable with their hair and it's nice to see someone say the right thing. Not everything is possible on everyone when the hair has already gone through chemical treatments and I wish more hairdressers were honest about that.

I'm a stylist and that's one thing I have to tell people time and time again. They'll come in with previously processed very dark hair and ask for white, silver or even a pale blonde balayage in one day. I have to explain to them realistically what they can achieve in what time frame. I had a girl the other day with long beautiful hair wanting to chop it off because a salon gave her a one visit pale blonde balayage that ruined her hair. When I started washing it it tangled up immediately it was so damaged. Hate to say but you're right, there are a lot of "professionals" that either don't know what they're doing or they just care about making money, not the long term result

It’s an all over single process application. This is how we are taught in beauty school. I’ve worked in many salons in nyc, Thailand, and Atlanta and California. They all do it this way or bottle application. It’s very difficult to get the root of the hair without saturating the scalp. I do agree that u can prevent touching the scalp doing high lights or ombré . But for a single process application, that’s how u do it. She’s also probably using like a manic panic temporary color stain, which is not really harmful to the hair or skin

Applause Applause- that was a good cut & the pop of color was sharp- I bet it looked even better in real life. Red is her color & the bangs frame her face so well. This is more unique than rose

Some are still doing that. Especially the people who don't want to invest time in maintaining natural hair. Their choice.
Just for health reasons alone I would not put relaxer in my hair and near my scalp.

For some reason I love this comment! It makes me feel like people are getting used to us rocking our natural hair when they ask this. Nothing against relaxers but I agree that the health concerns of relaxers are something to think about.

if she likes her hair straight then I don’t see the problem. people should stop trying to tell others what to do with their hair, not everyone is about wearing their hair naturally curly, and that’s okay! She looks great imo. The color is a fun and subtle enhancement!

This reminds me of Nappily Ever After on Netflix. In the movie her mom has always made her hair straight with a relaxer since she was a kid to all the way into her 30s. Until someone goes wrong at a hair salon and she is forced to cut it all off. (I highly recommend for anyone struggling with their natural hair identity.)
