I have to explain to them realistically what they can achieve in what time frame. I had a girl the other day with long beautiful hair wanting to chop it off because a salon gave her a one visit pale blonde balayage that ruined her hair. When I started washing it it tangled up immediately it was so damaged. Hate to say but you're right, there are a lot of "professionals" that either don't know what they're doing or they just care about making money, not the long term result

Even though the color is subtle, it looks so good and catches the light really well. I think it’s kind of a perfect baby step into hair dyeing since she said she’s never done it before, also super happy that the stylist did a strand test.

It’s an all over single process application. This is how we are taught in beauty school. I’ve worked in many salons in nyc, Thailand, and Atlanta and California. They all do it this way or bottle application. It’s very difficult to get the root of the hair without saturating the scalp. I do agree that u can prevent touching the scalp doing high lights or ombré . But for a single process application, that’s how u do it. She’s also probably using like a manic panic temporary color stain, which is not really harmful to the hair or skin
I’m mixed and I’m so glad my mom learned how to do my hair. It actually gave me special memories of her... a non black woman... braiding and twisting my hair for picture day. It’s important to learn how to do your black child’s hair or take them to a black salon. Which my mom also did as a treat!
I usually love the afters in this series, but I must be colour blind because that looks like red to me... and I think because of her face shape, a fringe doesn't really complement her. It's not awful, but I think they could have come up with a better alternative.

This reminds me of Nappily Ever After on Netflix. In the movie her mom has always made her hair straight with a relaxer since she was a kid to all the way into her 30s. Until someone goes wrong at a hair salon and she is forced to cut it all off. (I highly recommend for anyone struggling with their natural hair identity.)

I actually thought the colour looks great and if she continues dying it the same it will get more vibrant, I think the red is much edgier than the rose gold she wanted and with straight or frizzy hair that will look awesome!!

Why were her mother was so fixated on straightning her hair? She's teaching her daughter that her natural hair is ugly and that she shouldn't be confident about it. Honestly....

This reminds me of Nappily Ever After on Netflix. In the movie her mom has always made her hair straight with a relaxer since she was a kid to all the way into her 30s. Until someone goes wrong at a hair salon and she is forced to cut it all off. (I highly recommend for anyone struggling with their natural hair identity.)
