I have a poster of Raquel, the famous poster of the movie "1 Million Years BC", I found it in excellent condition in my basement, my father had it and he kept it with all other such possessions... It is not just a picture of a beautiful woman, it is an object that, at least for me, has intrinsic value.

Having viewed several videos featuring Raquel, and realizing that she died a little less than one year ago (February 15, 2023, at age 82) the mani thing that repeatedly has impressed me is how incredibly brilliant she was, intellectually, and how "down to earth she was as a person." What an incredible sense of humor, and even was able to laugh at herself, especially when she confessed to a huge "mis-step" when she turned down the role for the movie, "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore," and humbly continued by saying how well Ellen Byrstin did in winning an Oscar for that role. THAT is proof of, in my opinion, a truly great woman... a truly great human being! What has occurred to me as being so "Tragic," is that just like Norma Jean Baker (Marilyn Monroe) who also wanted to be taken seriously as a legitimate actress, on a less tragic but still extremely sad note, is that Raquel wanted the same thing for herself, and just because of her incredible physical beauty, she was denied that access. She reminds me of a kind of "American version of Sophia Loren, who obviously has been able to be taken seriously, while being just as gorgeous as Raquel. Part of the blame could be with Raquel herself, as I think of other very beautiful actresses such as Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Wood, and Faye Dunaway, who somehow achieved that goal of acceptance on that higher level, and probably Raquel should have been more discerning and refused so many roles that had hardly any speaking lines for her. As I wrote in an earlier response, I believe that due to her unresolved "Father Wound," (which is something I personally experienced as well with my dysfunctional father) that not only did that trauma, including her parents' divorce, but, in my opinion, that "Wound" also prevented her from maintaining any successful marriages. Although she had both a heart condition and the early stages of Alziemers Disease, perhaps her death, even at the age in which she died, may have been brought on in some way, by being "broken hearted" by not having achieved the Professional Status and Marital enjoyment which she truly wanted. I am very impressed that with these two failures to enjoy both professional and private satisfaction, may have brought about the end of her life, many years before it otherwise would have been lived out. How great that Raquel achieved all that she did... especially donating $1,000,000 worth of wigs to women who had gone through chemo and radiation treatments for cancer! How cool was that!!?? Anyway... a truly amazingly great woman, who was way more than merely "A Sex Symbol" and I thank God that she lived as full and as long a life as God allowed her to do. Amen..!!! For a long time Raquel Welch was mischaracterized as difficult and that reputation stuck for a long time. In hindsight, it was so wrong. She was bright, strong, and insisted on the respect she rightly deserved.

I saw her in Fantastic Voyage when it came out in the 70's at a local theatre. An amazing fun and very different kind of movie back then. She had a high IQ, how ironic considering her roles as a sex symbol. I always wished she had done more comedy bc she was funny. I am surprised at her death only bc she was so into health and fitness and I thought she would live to 100.

I always liked Raquel Welch. Hollywood never really gave her a fair break. With the exception of Fantastic Voyage, the majority of her hit movies were made in England.
