I grew up on 92nd street rite across from the Y. I worked at the Carlyle hotel on 76th Street. I was a bellman/bellhop. Raquel Welch was checking in with like 17 trunks, not suitcases, trunks for her bway show. She was magnificently beautiful, and a great tipper, 2 one hundred dollar bills. In 1977-78 that was like 500 today

And what a wonderful actress she was. I can recall scenes where her artistry just made you hold your breath.

I find her honest, authentic and engaging. Despite being a huge star, she comes over as very human. She doesn’t try too hard to please but there's a very disarming self-depracation, but most of all a clear-eyed honesty about herself and the world.

Yes she’s a beautiful woman but she is describing the human condition. I think her wisdom has come from pain yet she has learned to be gentle with herself. Go with the flow. Such a kind human being.

There was no other woman that looked like her. She was like no other beauty. And you know what, she was great in her movies, watch FUZZ, she was tough and natural. In real life as well. She wouldn't back down from her father.

To think that she’s 70 here when I first started to watch I thought she was nearing 50. Why didn’t she live past 83? Because she came t the fair and had her fill. Every child is excited when they first arrive at an amusement park . At 6 pm they regret the end f the day is near. By 10 pm they are so tired they cry. The time she had with herself from here at 70 till 83 is such a time where she had no worries financially, was always beautiful. And she was well respected and received. What more can one ask for . She lived her life to the fullest. She must have been tired enough to cry at 83 and I feel glad she had a very full day at the park and she let us watch.

Always a big fan of Raquel Welch. She of course had her personal issues such as the strained relationship with her children that continued until her death. She was an extremely intelligent and ambitious lady not to mention being absolutely gorgeous. She kept it going as long as possible and apparently the recent disclosure that she was suffering from Alzheimer’s may be the reason she disappeared from public life in her late 70s.

Most women can relate to her then and now. You have these fairy tale ideas about life, whether famous or not. I have always admired Raquel for the modesty of who she portrayed. I never thought of her as a sex symbol growing up. I thought of her as a gorgeous woman. She pursued her life outside of those times that she lived in and was quite courageous. Wow. In the end, she finds out that she is 70 years old. I thought I was looking at an interview from the early 80s.

An incredible woman! Raquel was unique in world of illusions, egos and the pursuit of eternal youth. First : Raquel was a spectacular looking female, naturally! She was born beautiful and not like many in her line if work; by the means of artificial changes, attain a certain look. She was an athlete and enjoyed it. In my opinion she was a good actress, displayed in Myra Breckenridge and in Kansas City bomber. I was disturbed that she denied her Latin heritage until the latter part of her life, to further behoove her career. She could speak French, so I'm always wondered why she didn't learn Spanish, phonetically, an easier language. She was never like the image she portrayed. She was a bookworm and intelligent.

Anyone can be a jerk, some more than others. Cassandra Peterson aka Elvira found Welch to be a major jerk.

@@lasuvidaboy thats amazing - she really looks and sounds about 20 yrs younger. I am so sad she is gone, wondering how she died (sudden short illness?) especially because she looked pretty healthy at the end in her 80's.

If this was recorded in 2010 and she was born in 1940, that would make her 70. And while she was talking with Dr. Saltz, she mentions being 70 years old.

I want to believe her vagueness is specific, but it’s not.

She's not vague. It sounds like you are retrofitting her dementia diagnosis onto this interview. That was a decade on. She is very smart, sharp and specific here.
