I choose my words carefully. This was a awesome job. I am old and looking to have a hobby that does not break the bank. Sometimes it's the simplest thing that can help one's mental strength. I am trying to find a purpose to go on and your videos are helping me to just stop reset and focusing on what is really important. You have great talent thank you for helping me find purpose again.
I’m glad the description says “Making” and not “Forging” a knife. He did in fact make a pretty good knife. He also offered a different perspective on the knife making process
It can't be good knife if is made from bad steel. This guy knows nothing about metalurgy. These saw blades with welded teeth has only teeth hard, the main body is poor soft steel not suitable for knife blade.
Carbide tipped saw blades are not the best material to use as they are soft metal to allow flexing. Old blades that dont have carbide tips are higher carbon steel. Forge On!!!
Металл у пил спобедитовыми напайками не годится, там прочная только зона пиления. Нужно брать простые старые дисковые пилы- они полностью с однородного металла.
Nice effort and good practice, but saw blades are too thin to build a full tang knife. As others have said, Carbide tipped blades use a softer steel for the blade body to allow flex.
Actually thickness is ok but you're right about steel. Once the saw blade has welded teeth it's not good steel for making knife. He doesn't know a thing about metallurgy.
I hope I'm wrong and this is just an off handed stoned comment, but in my community, guitar, people who talk like you are the purists who get mad when someone who doesn't know theory does something better than you. Like I said, I could be totally wrong, but the world metallurgy reminds me of them big music theory words I told to fkn off lol
I thought steel from carbide tipped saw blades wasn't great for knife steels. Do you know what type of steel it is? Are they all the same? Did you test for hardness after tempering? 👍
You though correctly. Once the saw blade has welded teeth the body is common steel not good enough for knife blade. Such a "knifemaker" know nothing about metalurgy.
watching this was nerve wracking lol. the first thing i was taught was to never wear any sort of glove on anything that spins, no matter the tool. its not going to pull the glove off. its going to pull you in. if a bare hand gets caught in something its going to rip the skin hopefully or at best just a finger.... but the gloves pull the whole damn arm in. i've seen to many videos of it happening just so it was burned into our brains to remember... also my teacher had no fingers on one hand. so yeah there was that was well.
Too many steps as someone who trys to think like a ninja i would have just cut the shape out quick grind an edge on it used good glue an paracord wrap for a handle ,and good to go , cheap simple and no big deal if you have to toss it after use.
You can find a lot of saw blades in a scrapyard (obviously already used/broken/fully covered in rust) It isn't too expensive as a brand new saw blade You can get maybe 4 or more(used) saw blades for the price of a now one
You actually believe that this is a useless knife. I find your thinking very flawed. I’m not insulting you but I can see many possibilities for this blade

I do wish you had audio so we could understand your thoughts as you did this. The whys or why nots. Why this and not that.

А для чего этот нож?
It's a weapon called a karambit. It's from the Philippines. That being said, stay away from it. There are better options.

Do you realize that knife never touched an anvil? Anybody could use an angle grinder and do it this way! FORGE SOMETHING!
Hey man, he colored inside the lines.
If it’s beautiful and it’s sharp what’s the difference?
