Until COVID struck, I needed to clean the WHOLE house before I could focus on work-work...that changed quickly!

Funny thing- we just relocated to Arizona for retirement AND cut the cable. I’ve discovered Design Inc followed by either Sarah 101 or Room Service ( when she was a baby!) on one of the extra channels, DABL I believe. I miss Vito! He was my fav❤️❤️
Oh yes, I loved her work with the team! Design Inc. Please return the Episodes on You Tube. What I love about your work is your ability to select fabric patterns and coordinate several within a space. Several years ago, your work on the farmhouse bedroom (add on) and the dining room using antique corbels in the dining room entrance still remains with me.

Hearing you talk about the past inspired me to finally tell you how proud I am of you. I have watched and followed your career since you did crafts from your kitchen ( I think. You had a close up camera view.) You are so good. I love, love, love your style. I always told people that you would be the one to decorate my house ( if I could ever afford a decorator lol) I just found your youtube channel. I'm old and wasn't thinking about youtube. Hey Sarah, you are without a doubt my favourite interior designer of all time. Thank you so much for your genius, repurposing ideas! Please don't take this personally, but I wish people wouldn't refer to schooling from home due to the pandemic quarantine as "homeschooling". It is a disservice to so many of the families who choose to homeschool under normal circumstances. Many families who opt, rather than being forced, to educate their children at home have to prepare the reports, course material, curriculum, etc. Quarantine schooling still has a paid teacher prepare the lessons, tests and so on.
the humor you have during your UA-cam episodes is what makes them all fun and enjoyable. You keep most projects simple yet inventive and creative!

Lol... we are now in our 11th year of homeschooling and I run a homeschooling group here in Western Newfoundland. The key to success homeschooling is to keep it simple and only mildly structured - some subjects will take an eternity (20-minutes) and other will take an instant (4-days)... when you find the ones that interest your kids let it flow and follow those rabbit trails. Mostly have fun with it. As for work space... we do our best work at the kitchen table with space to wander off for calls... My favourite of your work spaces was your daughter's room at the cottage... great space to stretch out.
Hey there, Great advice. We’ve been homeschoolers in Ontario for 12+ years. The re-design of the Bunkie on the island looks like a great sanctuary for the introverts in the family. I’d like a house as tidy as these picture. 😆

I love how the pouf that your feet are resting on ties in with the little octagonal side table! And I'm totally with you on dressing (up) every day. I also make my bed every morning, it makes me feel like I'm ready to be productive, even if I'm not going anywhere or seeing anyone. I work from home as a rule anyways, so this social distancing hasn't been much different in that respect... except now we're homeschooling...ahhh! Thanks for the video on work space ideas!

Like you, I make my bed everyday before my work from home day starts. I have my desk in my bedroom due to there being no other place for me to setup a quiet workspace in my home.

This was a great video that brought back a lot of memories. I used the filing cabinet wood top desk solution from the time I left home, to my first apartment, to my first home and beyond. I still have one of the original filing cabinets. It was so easy to set up where ever I moved and I used it for office space, craft space, puzzle and game space and even overflow dining space. Super simple to set up, super simple to pack and move to my next home.
Loved your other ideas for desks and storage space. Though I have pared down a lot over the years, I still have a lot of things that I do keep and/or need to have on hand and storage is sooooo important to my life. You just gave me some new ideas for doing some redecorating in my house once I can get out and go shopping again. I love the nook you were sitting in during the broadcast. I can see myself there reading a book or sitting with my laptop.

This is really helpful especially right now. I don't like having my work in my home / private space but figuring out a cute desk and spot makes it tolerable.

Did not know you even had a UA-cam channel, it was a nice surprise this one popped up in my space. I have been trying to plan a home studio / craft room for me. I have some great spaces to choose from but each need decluttering after living in our house for 18-19 years. Two kids are grown adults living their lives outside of the house and one teenager still living with us. The planning part is fun but I don't have huge creative ideas. I will definitely watch your You Tube's for some inspiration and ideas. Great sweater!

Thank you for this. We get up every morning at our usual time and my husband goes into his home office during his usual hours. Routine helps for sure but boy do we miss our kids and grandkids

Thanks Sarah, good timing , excellent content and inspiration ! I totally agree that one has to feel good to be productive, which includes getting changed into the appropriate clothing and having a clean area in which to focus. I totally love all your designs. The only thing that I would do for desk is that I never have my back to a door. So for example , where possible, I would have my desk perpendicular to the window so that daylight is streaming at one side and I can also see who is entering the room. (You maybe familiar with one of the basic principles of Feng Shui design with furniture placement . ) However , it does come down to personal choice and how one feels comfortable with the surrounding energy .Stay safe!

I worked on my office during the early part of the pandemic and I build myself a craft desk out of a book shelf that I already had and a leg and
1x 2 length of wood purchased at the hardware store. My computer and sound equipment lives on a converted dressing table that I put a standing desk riser on to make it a space I could use sitting or standing. I really love my office now.
You have always been the #1 decorator for me I dream of you coming to my house and transforming it,please keep all the your tv shows and video's coming i watch everthing.. GREAT WORK

Great ideas, Sarah! BTW, I was enjoying your Haus Heidi and I lost the signal on the television so I only was able to watch half of your show. Wow you are putting a LOT of money into the project. It looks great. I thought that you would have left the octagon ceiling open because it was a great feature. I was surprised to see it dry walled over. I am looking forward to see what you got done in your kitchen on the second floor. You have great ideas and you don't take "No" for an answer until you have tried all possibilities when the contractor says they can't do it according to your plans.

Your laundry room does not seem strange to me at all. I live in Utah where a lot of people have large families. We like to go to the Parade of Homes (new built home tours showcasing builders and craftsmen) in different cities every year. We see a LOT of combination laundry/craft/office rooms like this! Beautiful!

Love the multi-function laundry/office. It is beautiful to look at, has lots of storage and functional too. I wish I could make our tiny laundry as nice as this. Ours is a walk-through space to get to the back door.

Sarah, I love your style....so much that I took inspiration from your Ranch Reveal living room for my own living room. I got two of the white slip covered Farlov sofas and the little black IKEA floor lamp, and paired those with a high-back chair by the fireplace. Someone was over yesterday and asked if I was a decorator. High praise for this RN, but I give you the credit.

Thank you So Much for helping to bring peace, happiness, creativity and joy to our homes during this season of our lives. It is great medicine for me and many others. As for your personal preferences, I am mostly the same way. Been working from home off and on for many years, but I feel very uncomfortable wearing pajamas all day long! I’m a tough boss on myself, lol. I now have a large sewing and craft space that is a former master bedroom (we added one on the ground floor), plus a separate office where we installed cabinets and a long wall with work spaces. It is such a pretty area and easy to work in. P.S. LOVE the corbels uses!

That desk on the 3rd floor in Sarah's House season 1 is my absolute fave! I love a good bay window, and I could work at that desk for hours!

As soon as he was told to work from home Hubby insisted on moving a giant desk out of our "office" (west 1/2 of master bedroom) and into a dark corner of our family room. I grumbled. Turns out it's a great space for him and he focuses there very well! Bonus is that the office is much prettier and it's all mine now!

My desk is a travertine-stone laminate-covered door on two file cabinets; I love the practicality and ease of the set up. I also agree with Sarah that getting up, showered/dressed/a bit of make up is the way to go when working at home. You gotta have some structure/routine to make it work. l was home-based the last 15+ yrs of my career (50% home/50% travel), and I became a complete convert to working from home. So many advantages, so few negatives! I suspect that after the COVID-19 pandemic eventually recedes, many people who are now working from home will continue to do so. Employers are becoming converts too.

We'll have to see how the world changes because of COVID-19. Perhaps more homes will have a need for a home office in the future and interior designers will need to keep that in mind.
The sink - to wash our hands!!
Love all these ideas. Loved them the first time and still love them now. It's hard to believe that it's been over 20 years!

I've always loved your home and watching Sarah off the Grid. Perhaps people criticizing the sink in the laundry room aren't criticizing its practicality (to me it always makes sense to have a sink in a laundry room), but where it's placed. Seems like it'd have easier access if it were located on the left side of the counter near the washer/dryer so you can stand directly in front of the sink, rather than on the right where it's blocked by the perpendicular desk.
Oh my goodness! I am so glad to have found your UA-cam channel. I remember falling in love with your design style over 10 years ago when I would visit my family in Canada and watch you on HGTV. My husband and I are about to buy our first house and I went to find those old episodes to show him to inspire our interior decor and I found you here. Cheers to you!

Was that peninsula desk 20 years ago? OMG I loved that office. I never told you but we got rid of TV (out in the sticks) because I used to watch design inc. before going in to work every day and I would get so depressed that I didn't work with you that we literally got rid of tv. I have finally found myself and am loving your new series on UA-cam so much! I am working at home and loving it. I had a very long commute and was so happy to give it up for now. Thank you for sharing all these great ideas! My first priority in my new apartment - moving next week! - is as big a work space as possible. I measured my "usual" spread out with projects, using one of the folding tables in the laundry room ... and it's a 5' spread. 🙄😃
