Such good tips here! Yes, we can tell when you’re being fake! Yes, just because I like learning about dogs doesn’t mean I want to meet a real dog. Thank you for highlighting these differences.

I had a really weird experience regarding this topic. My son had an extreme interest in mushrooms until the day that I brought him to a "Special Exhibition on Mushrooms by the Mushroom Society" that was crowded with people interested in mushrooms and experts talking about it to the crowd. From 100% to 0%, it just stopped.
Again, with Minecraft. A very intense interest, but then my kid met another kid that was really into playing Minecraft (the first that shared the interest and was allowed to play it), and after that kid talked about it all evening long, our kid declared shortly afterwards, it is not interested in Minecraft anymore. I find it really hard to understand. I expected my kid to be happy about really being able to connect to someone who is also into his special interest.

Maybe he wants something to be his.
