I like how Microsoft combine an easy approach for all the beginners and more complex procedures for expert simmers. I believe this simulator is going to be fine for occasional gamer as well as old simmers.
I'm looking forward to it but to say it's an easy approach for beginners is an overstatement. I'm a complete noob to FS and both UA-cam/In-game tutorials all mention WHAT to do but not WHY. Nor do they mention what things mean. In this Tutorial for example when talking about FINMA & SAMBA. I have no idea what that is and neither is it explained. I get it's a simulator but we all have to start somewhere. A lot of tutorials assume basic aviation experience/knowledge which is a bit intimidating tbh. Be easier to take up actual flight lessons.
So I can't draw my own line along the coast line for example and fly the path I want? because I dont see any option for addng your own points from start to the end?.......
Yeah this game seems super fleshed out, I love what the devs have done. I can only imagine how this will be down the road as more things are patched in etc. Also live traffic is wonderful too
I just got the closed beta. Needs a little optimization. Camera controls need some work or some explaining. Scenery is ridiculous, and you have never in your life seen weather and snow like this. Blew my mind.
Can you also create your own flight plan in the fmc? Like if you "spawn" in Manchester, and then do you own flight plan in the fmc to London Heathrow? Btw good video!

As an instrumented rated pilot, I think this looks great. This is exactly what I was hoping for and wondering if they'd implemented. Now, it'd be even cooler if you could just "file" this and then when you went to the actual plane, ATC might give you something else! But I know that's probably too much to ask. Anyway, looking forward to seeing you actually fly this, and hoping to see you doing it with ATC.
to be honest i was expecting flight planner just like that.. But sids and stars? thats amazing! Im flying around for years but on medium experience level, i dont mind feed FMC with information, but a easy and user friendly flight planner is that what im looking for, Thanks for showing this Chewwy! It will be great to also be able to use your own VFR flight plans and do some cross country navigation using the fantastic scenery in tandem with aeronautical maps.

Thanks. I set up complex flight plans thanks to your info and saved them. I also found after saving a flight plan it's pretty easy to change many things of that plan with Word Pad. One snag was (maybe a bug) I found for some reason, after loading a plan I was now in the dark even though I'd saved in daylight. I then found no weather icon in the toolbar once the flight plan was loaded as apparently it gets turned off in this situation so no way to fix this. However, loading the .flt doc and editing was easy enough and I was also able to change the plane type, time, and weather. Remember to make a copy of the original first.
The built-in flight planner is amazing! I've been dreaming of a sim with all these features built in without having to purchase hundreds upon hundreds of add-ons. I can't wait until this comes out!
A lot of third party aeroplanes had simulated flight computers which you use to plan your flight and fly with. I just gave the Aerosoft A320 as an example of one. The example in the video is just just a flight planning tool which you can use and is a simplified version of the one built in to passenger aircraft. It has the way points, SIDS. and STARS but it is not realistic because the computer in a real aircraft is not simulated. For example you don't appear to have to put in the weight or calculate the fuel. I am of course only going by that video and could just possibly be wrong
@@user-zc9zt2vl5s I am telling you that the ones in the planes don't work as far as I can see and the one in the sim works. But don't think you are getting anything like a real one in the planes that are in the sim.

This simulator has an in built startup checklist that even highlights the buttons you must press to progress iinto the flight so a video for that purpose would be quite obselete
You can't do a "proper cold and dark start up" on a model, which has not implemented all the real systems! For example, one big difference at start up is the not implemented ADIRS, which actually IS an important part in Airbus system at start up sequence!
Thank you. Fairly new to flight sims and wondered how you created a flight plan. Did my first flight as a straight line and arrived at the wrong angle for the runway and panicked lol. Now I'm off to find out how you use the autopilot (I have some vague memories of AP in an earlier flight sim). Much appreciated, good video
As mentioned, you would need a nav computer (the glass cockpit GA aircraft like the G1000 or any airliner) and then you need to do the tedious task of manually entering all of these waypoint markers and the final destination and saving it.
@@cebrady You can also set a destination airport, then in the procedures menu select an arrival and approach, that inserts the waypoints automatically.

Impressed with this I didn't even know it existed !! I use much complicated addons for planning flights. When you know (as you) which SIDs and STARs to use (being familiar with a specific airport) this is really quite handy and quite a nice built-in feature. Unexpected. Thank you so much for showing us this (I kept on clicking to 'fly now' with my already loaded flight plan I had made somewhere else and totally missed this !!)
Okay. So how do you modify a flight plan once you're in the air? A nice bunch of instructions on how to use the Garmin to do flight plans would be great too.
Glad you routed yourself correctly over my house :) I get to see the big planes stacking up on that route. I wonder if anyone knows if it's possible to put things on a clipboard/notepad (or the tablet I think they have in the planes now), so we can look at it when we're in the cockpit? This was on of my favourite things in FSX - I typed up my cold and dark checklist manually and 'held it' in-game on the little notepad, and I had all my flight plans and maps on there too so I could check them. I know the HUD is much nicer and more functional but I hope they have this stuff too... I believe I remember browsing websites in-game via the PDA thing in FSX (it's been a while).
I'm looking forward to a flight from cold and dark to shutdown in the A320. I'm wondering if the included aircraft like the A320 are closer to "study level" or stock X-Plane. Also, I can't believe they are not including a 737 variant (NG, Max, etc.)... the most popular commercial aircraft in the world. Did someone like PMDG offered a financial incentive for Asobo Studio not to put one in FS2020?
I wouldn't be that surprised if they planned to make, or begun work on, a 737 Max but then abandoned it, because, yeah. Obviously I don't know but it's not completely unthinkable seeing how they made a 787-10 which is very new.
well if you think about it.. the pmdg 737 is officialy licensed by boeing.. it has all the documentation and everything you need.... it was realy awsome on fsx and i am sure it will rock for MSFS2020.. personaly i prefer to pay a bit extra and get an extremely detailed aircraft than have an avarage level of detail for free.. i would be fine if another publisher did something simmilar with the 320neo...
I wish the flight planner would automatically suggest the runway for depature and arrival based on the actual winds. Any idea if the ATC reacts for wind change?

I wish there were an app where you can sinc the sim with a tablet. That way, while you sit in the aircraft, you can file the flight plan and all that. Then pull up an interactive map of the airport for progressive taxi instead of the actual arrows on the ground.
oh my god I love you chewie. How have I never seen those before. The straight line has been confusing me for a while. Will that also set up the ILS frequencies - do you have to choose an ILS approach for that to work? (not been able to get that working either)
Since 2008 I guess FSX came out in 2006 the next would have been MFS 2008. I remember looking at the 3d mode in Google maps about a year ago and thinking a Microsoft flight simulator based on that would be incredible
Sure, but you'll have to get used to all(!) the different hotkeys. The older you are, the worse this can get! And yes, unfortunately I made this experience already, when I switched to XPlane! ;)
When i do this, once I select “fly”, my plane does not take the flight plan i customized, instead it gives me a direct flight plan. (Ive set it to low altitude airways and high altitude airways)
i have a lil problem here when im making a flight plan (everythings fine) i enter the game and some parts of the flight plan are gone takeoff, flight, and landing are all shown on the map by a line but some parts of the line just vanish and the autopilot begins to be cunfused and he just goes straight help lol
YES!!! And much more, as they deliver authentic, always up to date and worldwide navigation data, which is currently used on all major FMS's in RL. That was a huge problem with MSFS the later it got, as the updated nav data (like Navigraph) more and more was drifting away from the existing world in FS, which still was the world from 2002! And P3D just took that "old world" over into their sim as well.
Is it possible to make a flight plan with airport stops in between the departure and arrival airports, lets say i wanted to fly accross america with some stops to refuel in one flight plan, if that is possible please make a tutorial on that.
Yes that is an easy way to put the flight plan in. Here’s where the trouble starts. The flight plan is in it in your G 1000 you do your routines you takeoff and you fly everything is going good and you decide that you’ve had enough for the day so you save the file. When you re-open the file the next time you open Microsoft flight simulator you are at your altitude and heading and location however, there is no flight plan in the G1000. When you have the flight plan in the G 1000 there’s no selection to save it. You select menu and then the only active choice is to delete flight plan. There’s no way to store it. This makes it very difficult since you’re flying on an IFR flight plan that your aircraft no longer has a route to physically follow. The multifunction display shows the airplane with no routing. You’re still on your IFR flight plan because the ATC selection is to go and get vectors to your waypoint but yet there’s no waypoint listed. On that note there is also no altitude preset on your PFD anymore but the aircraft is still maintaining your last known altitude.. Any suggestions?
I just want the Direct-GPS that gives me Cruise-Descent-Destination, the Nav Log is there before you start the flight, but once in the aircraft the Nav Log has only the destination.
Sorry, I think I'm more confused now than I was before I started watching. It all just sounded like "We just do this, then we select this, and alakazam alakazoo, we're done." Maybe try starting with the plan already in mind, and only then proceed to explain how to program that plan into the sim, e.g., "Say you want to go from point A to point B, but you want to pass over points C and D along the way. Here's how we can do that...."
Thanks for putting this up, I have finally gotten a computer capable of the new msfs. It's going to take some time to get used to, haven't done any simming since the Ultimate Global Tour server went down, and boy do I miss fs9 with fsnav running lol

Thanks a lot, but what I was looking was to show the Nav Log. Also how can you edit the altitudes at different way points? FS2020 is good, no doubt, the terrain mapping is good, but I see a lot of things we had in FS 2002 or FSX(?) is missing. A simple way to edit flight plan is missing or I haven't figured it out. Another feature missing is the ability to play back your flight and see how you did vs. the plan (elevation profile)

It is after not playing fsx since we’ll since I was in my early 20s I come back to the game and it’s been good help getting me back on board again

The nav log button shows you the profile of the flight and lets you change the altitude of each leg.

Since 2008 I guess FSX came out in 2006 the next would have been MFS 2008. I remember looking at the 3d mode in Google maps about a year ago and thinking a Microsoft flight simulator based on that would be incredible
Sure, but you'll have to get used to all(!) the different hotkeys. The older you are, the worse this can get! And yes, unfortunately I made this experience already, when I switched to XPlane! ;)

When i do this, once I select “fly”, my plane does not take the flight plan i customized, instead it gives me a direct flight plan. (Ive set it to low altitude airways and high altitude airways)

i have a lil problem here when im making a flight plan (everythings fine) i enter the game and some parts of the flight plan are gone takeoff, flight, and landing are all shown on the map by a line but some parts of the line just vanish and the autopilot begins to be cunfused and he just goes straight help lol

YES!!! And much more, as they deliver authentic, always up to date and worldwide navigation data, which is
currently used on all major FMS's in RL. That was a huge problem with MSFS the later it got, as the updated nav data (like Navigraph) more and more was drifting away from the existing world in FS, which still was the world from 2002! And P3D just took that "old world" over into their sim as well.
Are the ATC able to assign us a correct STAR? What happens you plan with a STAR, the wind changes direction, and you are landing the wrong way?
Nothing, just like in FSX, the ATC in this game is garbage and should never be used. Vatsim will be available launch day, use that.
Is it possible to make a flight plan with airport stops in between the departure and arrival airports, lets say i wanted to fly accross america with some stops to refuel in one flight plan, if that is possible please make a tutorial on that.

Yes that is an easy way to put the flight plan in. Here’s where the trouble starts. The flight plan is in it in your G 1000 you do your routines you takeoff and you fly everything is going good and you decide that you’ve had enough for the day so you save the file. When you re-open the file the next time you open Microsoft flight simulator you are at your altitude and heading and location however, there is no flight plan in the G1000. When you have the flight plan in the G 1000 there’s no selection to save it. You select menu and then the only active choice is to delete flight plan. There’s no way to store it. This makes it very difficult since you’re flying on an IFR flight plan that your aircraft no longer has a route to physically follow. The multifunction display shows the airplane with no routing. You’re still on your IFR flight plan because the ATC selection is to go and get vectors to your waypoint but yet there’s no waypoint listed. On that note there is also no altitude preset on your PFD anymore but the aircraft is still maintaining your last known altitude.. Any suggestions?
I just want the Direct-GPS that gives me Cruise-Descent-Destination, the Nav Log is there before you start the flight, but once in the aircraft the Nav Log has only the destination.
Sorry, I think I'm more confused now than I was before I started watching. It all just sounded like "We just do this, then we select this, and alakazam alakazoo, we're done."
Maybe try starting with the plan already in mind, and only then proceed to explain how to program that plan into the sim, e.g., "Say you want to go from point A to point B, but you want to pass over points C and D along the way. Here's how we can do that...."

It's going to take some time to get used to, haven't done any simming since the Ultimate Global Tour server went down, and boy do I miss fs9 with fsnav running lol

Hi Chewwy, thank you for this. FS 2020 is my first flight sim ever. Been watching Squirrel for a long time and wanted to but never did. All of that to ask, is making a flight plan the same for all aircraft? I've just been doing the "point A to point B" flights. I didn't even know you could do all of this. Thanks again! Thanks a lot, but what I was looking was to show the Nav Log. Also how can you edit the altitudes at different way points? FS2020 is good, no doubt, the terrain mapping is good, but I see a lot of things we had in FS 2002 or FSX(?) is missing. A simple way to edit flight plan is missing or I haven't figured it out. Another feature missing is the ability to play back your flight and see how you did vs. the plan (elevation profile)
