$85 RIFLE & GRENADE LAUNCHER?! DP Enfield No.1 (SMLE) Century Arms Drill Purpose Milsurp Unboxing

  • It's looking like the availability of cheap Drill Purpose (DP) No.1 Mk.III Lee-Enfield Rifles is dwindling. The latest batch Century Arms has listed seem to be pretty "bottom of the barrel" but they are still super affordable parts guns. Their current lot is also coming with a super cool military surplus rifle grenade launcher, which is a nice value add. One day in the near future all of these DP milsurp Enfields will be gone and getting parts for restoration projects will be far more difficult and expensive. I'm thinking about stocking up on a couple more myself.

    In India these rifles are used by NCC/ Police cadets during first few days of training as well as drills. They get these guns during completing the obstacle courses and such.

    I miss Springfield Sporters in Penn Run, PA. At one time, they had 60,000 rifles under their roof...stacked to the ceiling like cordwood. They sold DP Enfields for $39.95.

      How about southern ohio guns. They were the cause of most of my collection over the years, I miss them. I had many dealings with sprg sporters also, a good co.

    As you’ve just unboxed your SMLE I’d like to say that I have a 1917 fully firing SMLE that’s why I appreciate your video👍

    The 1959 stamp is just when it as rebuilt, probably as a DP rifle. I can tell from the markings that the rifle's receiver that it was produced in 1941. RFI eliminated the magazine cutoff slot sometime between serial E50702 (slotted) and s/n E70483 (not slotted). The gas port shape (oblong) is also consistent with a early 1940s RFI receiver; RFI switched to a small round gas port in 1942 sometime between serials F56112 and G1817. If you gently clean the right side of the butt socket you might find traces of the original manufacture information. The last DP rifle I received from Century was built on a 1912 BSA receiver. Although most of the original manufacture information had been scrubbed, the original information was still lightly visible.

    The reciever and barrel are pretty much trash (i dont even know why it needs FFL). But I just got one and I will use it for parts for my other enfields.

    My buddy has the granade launcher for a No 1 Endfield and he has found that a coots silver bullet can fits and has shot them with sand in the can. Tennis ball also fit but will blow a hole in the ball when fires with blank the can with sand works good

    I know what your bayonet is brother, it’s a ‘pig sticker’ used by the the British army after they realised they didn’t need a long bayonet. It will fit a Lee Enfield .303 by the way, I’m English and fully into all arms! Keep going mate👍

      The spike will fit the No. 4 Mk 1 though, not the No. 1's or No.5's.

      I read more than one British first person (soldier diary) accounts of the bitter hand-hand fighting in the Arakan (Burma) in which a strong preference was expressed for the 'long' LE bayonet. I think this reflected the fact that many Japanese officers and NCOs tended to bring swords to the close quarter combat. The greater the reach of your bayonet, the better.

    hi if you are going to use the cup discharger, once you have fitted it to the nose cap there is a treaded tube in the base of the cup that should be wound down to the crown of the barrel to make a gas tight seal, if you look from the base of the discharger you will see the tube it has the impression of the crown machined into it and from the top you will see the slot across the tube for a large screwdriver , if this peace is missing dont use the discharger, they can be fun with tennis balls and some blanks , love the content👍

    Nice, I got one of these a couple weeks ago. Looked very similar except my grenade cup was completely rusted. Made a good boil and card project and turned out nice. I have no clue what I am going to do with the rifle, probably just leave it all greased up until I need parts from it. I have an Ishapore that has a broken stock so I might see if I can refinish the DP forend to match it. Right now it has a DP stock on it with the paint stripes still on. My concern is no1 mk3's are super picky about stock fitment and I am worried I am going to break the DP stock by shooting it because the draws don't seem to be making good contact in the back.

    I didn't find a single link to these guns from century, not even an out of stock link. It also appears that the DP's simply have a grenade cup included, they are not actual designated EY grenade use guns.

    I’m trying to make a .22 Trainer with mine. Going to cut the .303 demilled Barrel past the Knox Form and bore the stub out to hold a .22 Remington Rifle Barrel, then modify the Bolt Head, Extractor and Firing Pin to Rimfire.

    • @michaelpierson7256
      @michaelpierson7256 Рік тому

      Why not do a full length 22 liner and maintain the hole outside profile of the rifle. I got a No.1 1912 BSA that's a mil 22cal trainer for $65 at a gun show, at the range people expect a boom & get a pop instead. It just about sounds suppressed w/that long of a bbl in 22cal, (powder burned long before bullet exits bbl) good luck on yours😊happy shooting.

    • @michaelpierson7256
      @michaelpierson7256 Рік тому

      One more thought, check with numrich gun parts corp for a 22cal bolt head. I looked this up for u in my #33 mil firearms guide (numrich 2011 a little out of date though) listed under #1Mk3 is 22cal Firing pin p/n 506540 $9.35 & 22cal bolt head p/n 506530 $12.75. 2011 prices though. I've also got a gibbs enfield No1Mk3 45-70, so options abound.

    Concidering other guns ive got shooting again like a rusted out 03 sprgfld battlefield dig up & 1911 that burned to death still loaded is revived. These would be kind of easy to fix since 303s are fairly low pressure guns anyway (about 48,000 lbs. I would drill out pin, replace the bbl, put short pins in rcvr holes & just weld the top of it over. Ive just convensed myself to get one of these, it doesnt take much to talk myself into a new gun. Time to call C.A.I.

I ended up getting 5 instead, they weren't in that bad of shape. One was 1918 British. Another One had 2 dates 1970 & on the other side1975. I had no idea these were made this recently.
