I have a very mixed feelings about Hawaii. I grew up in Hawaii and moved to the mainland shortly after high school. Although I have very fond memories of Hawaii and Oahu, my family was very poor while I was growing up and those happy memories are mixed with some very sad ones as well. Watching these videos really brings me back.

Loved the tour. Lived in Ewa Beach 1972-75. Went to Ilima and Campbell, lived on Hanakahi. No golf courses, just sugarcane..Great memories. Anyone remember Tanakas store across from Ilima? Used to get Icee, li hing mui. I never knew Iriquois Pt.changed names.
Bringing back memories, huh? This place has definitely undergone a lot of development over the years. So much so that even we have to reset and get our bearings every now and then 🤣
YES!! I think we used to get some candy there! As kids, we'd walk down and get some snacks at a food place on the corner (same shopping center as the Royal Pharmacy, Foodland and Woolworth's. And I think a McDonald's was nearby, with saimin on the menu). I lived there shortly after you did, it seems.
Love the video. I grew up in Ewa Beach. Lived on Ewa Beach Rd. Then moved to Hanakahi St. Moved to the mainland after graduation. So this is all new. Used to be sugar kane and kiavea trees ( unsure the spelling).
I lived in Ewa Beach from 4th grade to 6th, during the 70s. My dad was in the military and did something unusual for active military. He bought a house. We lived in what would now be called the OLD part. We lived on the corner of Papipi and another street (not telling just for privacy's sake). It was a charming little house, with a very large coconut tree in the front yard and SO MUCH different plants in the yard, from birds of paradise, plumeria, hibiscus, 2 or 3 big mango trees, banana "trees," papaya and our next door neighbor's bougainvillea came over the fence to our side. I attended Ewa Beach Elementary when I was there. Campbell High's library at the time was also the public library, and I used to walk there from my house. While I was in elementary school, my brother attended Ilima and my sister attended Campbell. She was once interviewed on a local news because her school had been voted one of the most violent schools on Oahu. How it's changed! We had heard there were more high-end homes from our family friend who lived there (and in fact, was my parents' real estate agent), and some resort-like areas. It looks SO different now. We used to live across the street from sugar cane fields and my school was also near the fields. I remember the ashes raining down when they burned the canes (they did it regularly). And large CANE SPIDERS walking across the street to homes. I used to ride my bike down Papipi, toward the beach area, where my best friend lived. Sometimes, we'd walk to the sea-wall. Other times, we might visit one of her neighbors, and elderly couple, who had one of the most beautiful yards in the neighhorhood. Those three families (mine, my friends' and the elderly couple) became sort of like a family, celebrating holidays together, etc. What memories!!

Wow I used to live Iroquois point in the 70s and 80s. I was tripping out seeing the road to puuloa housing closed. Ewa beach park looked a little bigger or something. I guess that golf course is the old faa housing facility.
27:10 There is a fire hydrant right located right below the cab of the parked truck. Back in the late 70's, I ran over that hydrant one week after getting my driver license. My Dads car got a good underside cleaning that day. A woman from the house next to there took the opportunity to water her grass by getting a bucket and scooping the water that was flowing. My parents were billed $150 by the BWS. Luv your videos and rewatch on occasion. I DO mention your channel when I come across someone who has a question about housing in Hawaii.

Born and raised in Ewa Plantation. And to clarify, Ewa IS different from Ewa Beach. The only thing that separated us was sugar cane. There was 1 road out and 1 road in (Ft. Weaver Road). Many of those water front homes today are now Air B&Bs. It used to be affordable to live here, it’s very odd to see these million dollar homes/Hoakalei. If my husband wasn’t in the HIANG, we wouldn’t be able to live comfortably like we do. Luckily my parents are good with their monies so they have no debt & was able to pay off my childhood home. Definitely grateful for all I have. Can’t say that’s the same for probably 75% of the other locals.
The sounds of freedom and the firing range are a reality at the end of the old Fort Weaver road for sure. I lived on the end block of Eva Beach Road. Never needed AC with open windows and fans. It is though a great joy to be among the local people and yet close enough to town. Respect of neighbors and the short term tourists is critical. It is an interesting choice and not for everyone. The riptide can be intense and the boiled peanuts still warm. Just do the intermittant fasting. Eat as healthy as you can in a 12 hour period. Only water, tea or coffee the other 12. Pretty soon you notice you can eat in a smaller window like only during an 8 hour period. Your metabolism speeds up your digestion improves a little at a time. Just jump back onboard if you eat longer than for your eating window. Some days are like that. You will see a difference and slowly but surely notice weight balancing and sustained energy. It is an easy dicipline and works for better health overall. You did a great job showing the diversity of Ewa properties and neighborhoods. Love the old Iriquois Point beach.
Moving from Kentucky to O'ahu. Looking for 3-4br single family home. Wanting to get something quick but have a limited budget at the moment. Do you all deal with lease hold properties? Would be a good option for us, with a fair contract, just to get us moved and settled easier.

Mmmm, lots of new developments and expensive real estate prices...who are the buyers?...Mainlanders, foreigners? There is a disconnect here when i read about most people in Hawaii's have low wages, work multiple jobs, or live in multiple generation housing, and yet a lot of people in Hawaii are doing well economically...
Yea lots of people are struggling in Hawaii and most of the buyers are from abroad and the mainland. Entrepreneurs, people with solid 6 figure incomes, and people with large inheritances buy nice homes in Hawaii. Of course some of them are couples who are saving every penny to put a down payment on an ok home with middle and upper-middle class salaries and many of them will struggle with their mortgage and want to have a roommate. It gets more ridiculous every year.

Ocean Point is elevated by 15 feet over the homes on Papipi road so it rises above the tsunami and flood zones.
