Yer an idiot Eric - hows that "keep the place quiet" ideology working out for you in Waikiki ? Waikiki is one of the busiest places I've ever been. I guess yer ok with that tho - Hawaiian's just love their Japanese YEN don't they ! Waikiki is little Tokyo - work on keeping it quiet tho you tool......

@@mikeoxlong5843 I'm glad you took the time to type out your ignorant and poorly thought out comment. Maybe next time don't make yourself a fool on the internet. You clearly understood nothing and took everything in an odd direction that makes no sense. Maybe be more mature and actually look past your ignorance and learn something about respect for others and their cultural differences. I'm sorry you are upset at something you don't understand. The worst thing we do as humans is not allow ourselves to learn and appreciate cultures other than our own. Also I'll leave you with some good life advice. Don't go out insulting people without good reason or personal anger because it makes you look very bad. I don't mind mature debates or some criticism on good morals, but you handled this in a very toxic way. I forgive you, but I hope you learn from it. Still with all that said aloha, braddah!

      @Jack Meov
Here are some notes for you since I guess your spell check doesn't work:
      *You're
      *how's
      *you're
      *though
*Hawaiians (no apostrophe, it's not a possessive noun in this context)
The fact that you listed Waikiki as your one and only example on all of O`ahu already tells us that you don't know what you're talking about and you're probably not from here. I was born and raised here. There are way more tranquil, quiet, beautiful places on this island (as some other comments have mentioned below) that haven't been tainted by the busy and bustling traffic of an overabundance of people. Waikiki is quite busy, but it's still a great city where people can experience the culture of these islands and true aloha spirit. It may be similar to some versions of "little Tokyo" with food options, shops, and population density, but Waikiki is its own city and it was created in its own way. Waikiki may be one of the most popular spots to be for tourists and some locals but the more people there are, the more to share our aloha with, for those who wish to experience it. Other people who only see a busy city and too many people are missing out.
And what do you mean by "Japanese YEN"? We're the 50th state in the United States (unfortunately, sadly, forcefully) so we use American currency. I'm assuming you meant "Hawaiian's" as in all the people who live here but that's not the true meaning of that word. "Hawaiian/Hawaiians" refers to people who have actual Hawaiian in their blood. Citizens of Hawai`i is what I think you meant to say as it refers to those who live here, and I guess the people you meant who supposedly "love their Japanese YEN".
I love that our cities are full of people who want to see these islands and experience what we have here. I'm glad there are videos like this one to show others how beautiful this place is. I hope that if you come back here, you get to experience the true meaning of aloha and feel the love that the people of these islands have for everyone.

I expected you to mention the Polynesian Culture Center. The fact that the performers / guides are college students, from all over the Pacific, who are paid to learn and retain their indigenous culture, makes it more than just a tourist site.

That makes their work at the Polynesian Culture Center a way to pay for college; a way to learn and reenforce their native culture; and a way to make The PPC experience authentic. Advice for tourists: research the major thoroughfares in hawaii. Specifically, find out their names.
Directions in hawaii aren’t given by designation; they’re given by landmarks and names.
For example, you’re not going Westbound on the H-1, you’re going Ewabound (Ewa is a major town that is on the western side of the island)
And it’s not called Route 72, it’s called Kalanianaole highway.
If you ask where “Route 72” is, you’re not going to get an answer.
If you ask where Kalanianaole Highway is, it’s much more helpful.

I have been going back as a tradition for the last 3 years btwn Christmas and New Years. Seeing friends in Honolulu then New Years with old friends in Kailua Kona / Captain Cook area. Heaven! I enjoy your enthusiasm.

I am planning to move to Oahu in a few months to make a fresh start and thoroughly enjoyed your informative insights and sense of humor. I can finally put my hula lessons to good use! Great video Matt! You know, when I talk to someone who's been to Oahu and never left Waikiki I make an involuntary squeaking sound: there is SOOOOOOO much to see and do. Go on a good guided walk into the rainforest for starters, it's so beautiful. Also the Bishop Museum was quiet when we went so we could take our time and really learn-- planetarium teaches about travel and navigation by the stars. Highly recommended.

I used to live like almost right across the street from sunset beach for most of my life
As a little girl I would always pick up as much trash I could on my amazing land. It’s so important to respect our lands and not to litter. I would always pick up trash I saw someone drop and walk up to them and give them there trash back and point to the trash can. Oahu is a fantastic vacation spot but not the best place to live . I still love and will never forget my childhood of many , many beaches.

I was stationed there from 97-00. To wake up in the 808 State every day was very cool. People save all year to vacation there for two weeks. To live there is a privilege you don't realize you have until you are gone. Although I lived there, I acted like a tourist and got out and enjoyed being there the entire 3 years I was there.

Stayed in Honolulu next door to the International Marketplace two blocks back from Waikiki beach on Kuhio Ave..
Rented a Harley - Davidson to get around & had no problems with traffic, left Honolulu going east around Diamond Head then up the east coast to the north shore and back south through the middle of the island to Pearl City then back to Honolulu.
Stopped many times at numerous beaches and found a nice family owned burger joint and surf shop for a quick bite.
Saw the famous sites we all have heard of.
Rode around the island for five days stopped at every Harley shop on the island.
Spent 5 days on the trip and had a great time.

Well just never know. You may end up looking like an ahole to others and that can anger people. But that's all anyone from Hawaii wants when people from outside come here. Just to have a kind and humble attitude and heart. Cause there are lots of people coming here outside of Hawaii thinking because they have tons of money, they can say or do whatever they want.
