Ok, as a former member of a Government Agency I can say this. When us vets aren't useful anymore they try to put us down too. Look into local VA hospitals, see how bad it is
When I was 4 years old my next door neighbor was a retired Military Dog Handler and retired with his dog. That dog was my first best friend, I would wander over there and set on the back stairs with the dog and have long discussions, and he would listen to me.

As a vet myself Id be so willing to adopt one or even 2, as soon as I purchase my first home. Then they can have all the space and freedom rather than a one bedroom apartment. Thank you Warrior Dog for looking after our battle buddies

This is heartbreaking. I always thought retired working dogs lived the end of years with their handler. I do think that happens a lot, but it isn’t guaranteed I guess. Glad this organization exists. We must take care of those who keeps us safe, and that includes our furry four legged soldiers and officers.

She lived in Ankawa ( a Christian city in northern iraq ) but was visiting the capital
She was only 22

Been a shelter volunteer for years. Thank you Mr Ritland for your service in the Teams and thank you for providing this necessary bridge from enforcement to civilian life. "Let them be dogs", exactly what I do with the pits and other dogs I socialize at the shelter. Ms Daniel, thank you for your dedication and service to these forgotten dogs who deserve to live a regular life, utmost respect to both of you!

I work on a military installation and in the past if the handler didn’t take the dog, they were adopted out. We were fortunate to adopt one ❤️

This is amazing to watch! I have always wanted to be in the Army and recently decided that my passion for animals was bigger than my passion for the military. I still wanted to do something that mattered and helped the people and aninals who fought for my freedom. I want to be a dog trainer and have thought for years that I wanted to start a kennel for retired military and police dogs or the dogs that didn't pass the tests to be deployed. I have done a ton of research and will continue researching and gaining experience until I am capable to start the rescue I dream of having.

If a dog has served their purpose and looking for a home then they should never be euthanized.
Anybody who thinks that these dogs who gave their lives to service need to be euthanized for whatever reason - doesn't deserve to be called human.

I first found out about the struggle to keep these dogs in retirement homes as apposed to euthanazia when I watched rex Megan leavey film. I now support our UK MDW retirement organisation rehoming ex military dogs. Amazing dogs deserve amazing retirements

OMG, I can't imagine putting down a service dog after all it has been through !!! In Germany where my father was stationed after WWII, my mother worked for the colonel of the UK vet unit. I learn't that the puppies were fostered for a year or so and then went on to training. If they made the grade, they joined the unit, if not they were put down, considered too dangerous to be given a normal home. So very sad.....

Its so upsetting that the military or just in general people make these dogs do things like fight for peoples lives then when the dog needs to be taken care of theres nothing implemented for them after were done with them... :,( its like there useless after we use them up. There not.... there dogs. Not machines.
That’s hard to navigate though, each dog that gets put out into the street as a normal dog is making the military more liable. And you’re wrong they’re machines. They’re trained from birth specifically be machines capable of orchestrating death and to not miss a single thing. They come back with problems. Look it up, you can find stories of retired combat veteran dogs being taken for a walk and a kid has a toy gun and that dog gets nervous so the dog goes up bites down on the kids hand and breaks every bone in his hand and wrist. It’s all about liability unfortunately.

I had a retired military dog and for the 3 years we had him. He was able to be a dog. Unfortunately he died from tongue cancer. He was a bomb and guard dog. But to me Fox was my baby.
