it was nice of him to give the dog back, the army should buy him a new dog of his choice. and ,maybe the army needs to get a waiver from the handlers in future should they not want the dog at the time the dog is retired from service.all the ''what ifs'' could be sorted out by the army in due course, after all they are ''looking into it''.

I feel so sad for both families. The change of heart was probably to honor the veteran’s service. It is not easy to part with a beloved pet and both families experienced the same thing at different times. Glad the dog is loved by so many. It just shows you how much animals add so much joy to our lives.

I don't understand your complimenting the guy from, his comments I have the impression that he fought giving the dog back, until it looked like the matter was going to court.
Am I wrong that he didn't do it out of the goodness in his heart until it looked like the dog would be awarded to the vet by current laws?
If my interpretation of the situation is correct, then I certainly don't believe the man in NC deserves to be praised.
If he was as compassionate as you're making him out to be, then Ryan never should have had to do what he did to get his service buddy back, that dog should have never been separated from his side.
Now I am sorry for the family in North Carolina for the hurt and disappointment they probably endured, but I'm pretty sure their attachment and bond to Satan wasn't anywhere near what exists between Ryan and Satan after their experiences during war.

I just feel bad for both sides. The dogs family that adopted him because, they clearly love him so much and were clearly giving him a good home. And the soldier for wanting his partner back and with him after everything they went through. What a lucky dog to have so many people love him. Just wish it was done the right way, giving handlers the first opportunity and then if they pass a civilian family can step up. That family didn’t do anything wrong and I hope they can provide another deserving dog a loving home.

Took a while because it's hard to let go of a dog you've come to love but in the end they did the right thing setting a great example to their kids and everyone who hears this story. So THANK YOU Richardson's and I hope you won't give up. Shelters all over the country have wonderful dogs looking for forever homes. @Neji The Siberian Husky what do u think is funny?
      The language mentioned or?
      Just wondering?
I love dogs. Sad to see military no respect for them to even give the handlers the first adoption option.
They literally have no say in if they serve. Most die. Or protect many human lives.
Why after retiring are they not going to a person who understands them loves them?
That said i trained dog will mostly always remembers his her known commandos so the person commenting did see that wrong as confirmation as the reason to why he is at the correct home. Even though i think he belongs to the vet in this case also. Not because of the training.
Ive trained rescue dogs. Ive trained dogs for 7 years including few of my own.
My eldest and fav dog, i won agility with her. She is really good with around 200 to 300 dutch words. Im dutch. So she knows hand signals, commands but also non official ones.
Like saying in dutch staying overnight vs just a quick shopping for food thing..
Im chronic ill now. She turns 12. I love her soo much. Damn we need to find a cure for dogs dying so fast, fast.
😉🙏 because i cant lose her lol. She is now my special help dog.
I can do so much with her. She understands so much.
Our 2 younger ones way less their soul feels younger. The youngest we train she is 7 months. The middle one is i think 6, and she trained for 4 years.. but she has bit more ahdh then oldest one. Maybe because full bordercollie.
Anyway love to hear what was funny.

It's sad the dog has been torn away from the family that he was given to. It was not their fault that the Army did not follow whatever rules to reunite a military war dog with it's handler. Big thumbs up to the family for not prolonging the fight and giving the dog up to the Veteran. But I am happy for the Veteran that he has his dog back. I find it a little bit in poor taste to deny the vet his dog in the first place. Good to hear the guy came to his senses, probably because he couldn’t afford the legal battle the vet and his lawyer were prepared to go through. Even if the dog has 2 good homes, it deserves to be with the vet that it fought side by side with and saved the life of him and his fellow soldiers. Y’all saying not to uproot it from the new family are not understanding a bond between a dog and human. If you think you do, well then Times it by 10 when your dog saved your life from getting blown up. Obviously the vet is going to give him just as good of a home if not better with the gratitude and love they share with each other from their experiences. Richardson didn’t do much but attempt to give the vet a hard time till he would have had to start coming out his pocket. Millions of great dogs need homes. Not to mention I’m sure the vet knows it’s training and how much enjoyment his dog gets out of doing those drills.. Richardson looks like he doesn’t get up out of that chair very often, let alone able to do the drills the dog enjoys that the veteran will do with the dog. just playing ‘fetch’ may not be stimulating enough, far too intelligent of a dog for normal family fun like that.

I know how attached I get and can't know how attached the dog had got to them, either. I know the Vet should had been given the dog to start with! How long was the dog with the people that the Military gave the dog to? The man did the right thing returning the dog to the Vet but all of you being critical think about if someone knocked on your dog and told you that you were given the dog incorrectly and it had to go to someone else. You would feel the pain for the other people but that wouldn't take away your pain of having to give the dog up.

I know what you are saying. There really was no right and wrong here. This whole ordeal was a mess. Cant condemn the Richardsons for adopting Satan and wanting to keep him; he became a member of their family. Cant condemn Anderson since he served with Satan and just wanted his brother back. Anderson getting his brother back denied the Richardsons themselves a much loved member of the family. Also with the Richardsons keeping Satan, caused Anderson emotional pain. As i said theres no right and wrong between these 2 families. This is a tough ordeal.

The man who adopted the dog, should be grateful that Satan was reunited with his Warrior and he should have no problem finding a good GSD puppy to replace Satan as a family pet. All's well that ends well, but sometimes, it takes both sides to achieve that outcome.

There are service men and women all in my family including my spouse! My spouse would be the first to say that doing the right thing does not mean not having compassion to those that get hurt in the process. Some people get very attached to animals right from the first day you bring them home. When we go to adopt a dog we do so thinking believing that dog will be ours will become a part of our family. Then suddenly they find out that the dog belongs to another. You don't just replace a dog. You aren't a real dog lover if you think any animal can be replaced with another. You can get another but it never replaces the one you had before.

You say.. kids, that man and the dog risked their lives sniffing out IEDs so that we can enjoy the rights we have as Americans. We could never have the bond that they have and we'd be terrible people if we fought this man in court. He got separated from HIS dog because of a medical problem, then the Army BROKE THE LAW by not offering the dog to the soldier. I know this might hurt for a while but we as a family need to do the right thing. As a soldier he may have some physical and mental issues upon RETURNING FROM WAR, so this dog may literally save his life by helping with any post traumatic stress disorder. Ok kids?
