  • Throughout history, dogs have accompanied man at work and play. Even during wartime, dogs functioned as mascots and trained in a variety of jobs to protect and save lives on battlefields throughout the world.
In this series, we focus on the roles dogs performed during times of war in support of our ground troops. From WWI when dogs served as mascots in the trenches of France to WWII when they were highly trained to perform jobs a soldier could not do that protected our troops from harm and helped to defeat the enemy. You will hear the stories from veteran war dog handlers of the Korean War and the Vietnam War about the roles their heroic dogs played to save their lives and the lives of others under extreme combat conditions.
With the global war on terror, military working dogs continue to be an invaluable lifesaving asset serving with our special operations community.
Since WWII, Military Working Dogs have consistently played a vital role in times of peace and war, oftentimes paying the ultimate price for their service and sacrifice.
This is The War Dog’s Story - giving a voice to the voiceless.

My moms cousin was in Vietnam and was a helicopter pilot . Would pick up wounded soldiers. He had an awesome Germany shepherd named Dutch. Dutch knew commands in German. He was out on a mission and a VC threw a handgrenade in to the helicopter. Dutch sniffed it out and tossed out of the helicopter. He and Dutch came home together and he was able to keep Dutch till his passing. These dogs do a vauled service and are heroes.
    Bless you Dutch

I was a licensed veterinary nurse at a specialty practice in California near one of the Naval bases. The saddest thing I remember was to watch a female MP bring her MP dog into us; our internal medicine specialist found cancer. To watch her try to keep her composure was difficult, because as the Navy paid for the visit, they would not pay to treat. She stayed at the hospital with her dog until she was ready to say goodbye. They allowed her that much. It still tore her apart.

Was AirTraffic Controller at K-8 in 1963-64. A K-9 guarded the tower during night time hours. During the cold winter invited the handler and his K-9 in the tower to get warm and have coffee. K-9 could not climb ladder into cab but was comfortable in the level below the cab while his handler sat with us. One night, at shift change, I walked out the door at the base of the tower to have the K-9 lung in front of me, his handler holding an extended leach. I stopped dead in my tracks totally surprised. The dog had grabbed a large rat that was in front of me and killed it. Amazing how he saw it in the dark.

For many months, we have worked on trying to get a major network to pick up the War Dog’s Story documentary. While the initial feedback on our trailer was great, none of the networks wanted to tackle the subject. From the feedback that we received, the feelings were the same - there was no interest in war stories or the dogs in them. We decided to move forward without the help of the major networks in order to get the War Dog’s Story completed. And so we are now excited to announce our official crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo to honor these stories, and the dogs and people in them.
Much of the film, and 39 interviews, have been shot already. With the funds we secure, we will be completing the last of the interviews that are needed. How many episodes will go into the series ultimately depends on how much we’re able to raise with the crowdfunding campaign. Once the edit is complete, we’ll be submitting the documentary series to a distributor who we have worked with previously. Other shows that we have produced have streamed on platforms like Amazon Prime, Tubi, and many other services in the past so we’re extremely confident that The War Dog’s Story will end up on numerous streaming platforms as well.
Please help us spread the word to everyone you know about our crowdfunding campaign. Every like, share and contribution will help us cross the finish line. People can donate to the project via the IndieGoGo page or directly on the War Dog’s Story web site, and we also have PayPal and Venmo options for contributing as well. From the start, these stories that are being told are what matter the most to us and we can really use your help in letting everyone know about the campaign and the film itself. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
    Thank you,

    MY THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS ONLY
~12 min... im very confused...why would they leave em there? Did they jus have 2 wait til da very end, like they're last ones out? Or they jus abandoned em out in middle of jungle 2 now fend for themselves??
If das case, i find it a lil hard 2 believe! During my son's deployment, he's a medic but their base was 1 of 2 in whole country for their unit...so he learned lots of additional duties(veterinary, labs, flight-evac, etc). Told me one time dog came in from some skin rash thingy & he was treated like gold. Said puppers are very revered & high dollar asset. Like nobody allowed 2 mess around when it came 2 illness or injury.
I cant imagine being told 2 leave my dog. My titan tarted getting sick 11 months ago, it was quick, very unexpected, & devastating...tore me up when i had 2 put him down. In my head i killed him & was fucked up for several months. I still miss him dearly, talk 2 him often, & touch his box on regular basis. For ppl w/out children, their pets are jus as important as if they were kids. They are totally dependent on us, love us no matter how good/bad our day is, sometimes wont even leave ur side.
That must have completely been da ultimate suckiness level of suckivity for these men & women being made 2 walk away! I am sorry for each of u & pray u were able 2 work thru ur grief & loss of an amazingly awesome bff

What I see when I watch and listen to all these people paint their picture of the nature of dog use in the military, which no one wants to admit, but it needs to be said, is that these dogs are cannon fodder at the very root of their duties. Which is not to say they do nothing else- certainly they have countless values to soldiers. But we essentially show how much we value them by sending them in to die in situations where wed have sent humans. That is literally the definition of expendable.
And the sad thing is that no one can ask the dog if it wants to get trained to possibly go and die in place of a human. We take advantage of the natural cooperating behaviour of a dog to train it to do what we want. But from the dogs point of view, its cooperating and doing what we want because its instincts tell it that cooperating is best for the survival of all parties involved. And the dog doesn’t know we are tricking it into thinking that, but the bottom line is that we will throw its life away in a heartbeat if it meant saving a human.
And that brings us to the fact that most people believe that humans are more important than animals. Well, from a human perspective that may be selfishly the case but as far as nature is concerned, humans don’t mean one thing more than any other creature in the universe. We’re all just different.
I have a lit of respect for soldiers. My grandfather lost a leg in WWII, in the Canadian contingent. I respect and venerate his sacrifice. I’ll tell you I would have the most respect for a soldier who gave his life to save his dog than I would otherwise. We might think humans are more valuable than dogs or other animals, but that doesn’t mean that we are not sadly mistaken in that view.
The day we can ask a dog whether or not it wants to be our cannon fodder, and it say “yes”, is the day Ill support dogs in the military. And if a soldier is not willing to die when they go to war, that’s totally cool. Just don’t join the army. Be a plumber, or an office worker.

I think there needs to be changes to the canines who are involved in the military to receive some benefits. I have a question ❓ are most of these canines rehabilitated and they go out to homes? To their forever homes or are these canines euthanized I'm sure the dogs are given medals but they also need 100% care available to them as they are retired . to live out the rest of their life's healthy and well taken care of😊

Part of the 86 Billion worth of assets abandoned and gifted to the Taliban. Im guessing many of the dogs most likely ended up feeding people who were starving under the new management.

Very good questions. We are completing the documentary series now, filming the last interviews we wanted to secure. As it stands, we have 39 interviews completed. Once we film the remaining ones, our editors will take over and get the series cut into episodes. We will be submitting the series to our distributor and from there we will know which streaming platforms will offer the series. We know it will be streaming on MakeReady.TV, but we wish to have it on as many streaming platforms as we can get on board.

Sounds like they were a useful disposable part of the war. It breaks my heart that they were left behind yet kinda understand. I hope they weren’t just abandoned but taken care of by someone in that country.

OH, wait I had an idea. Sorry, almost forgot... Can you somehow partner this with prosthetics? I have some cool ideas for that. The prosthetics field has had some recent breakthroughs for doggy ones which I think could be useful for military dogs too. The last website I visited was talking about amputated limbs and injured limbs. It's private sector, but that's fine right? It doesn't necesarily need to be a military contractor.... or does it? would it need to be a military contractor in order for military dogs to have access? @@HighProofMedia

I understand the use of the risk the sacrifice as a soldier who goes for infantry m.o.s , The dog is doing what it has been taught trained to do. It doesn't know the death or risk factors. A human does when you say I want to be a door kicker. I want to be on the front line. I want to be there, Bravo 18. You get my point. That's your choice as a dog doesn't have a choice. You want to be a Billy bad prove? To everybody, including yourself. How big your balls are.How tough you are you go through that fucking door knowing there's a Person with a gon the other side of that dog is gonna do it to make you happy because that's what it was trained and taugit doesn't understand death

They literally say that in the video. Also, who are you talking to? you think the people who are actually bringing more awareness to military K-9's in this video have anything to do with that? Unfortunately many dogs get euthanized after combat because they are to aggressive to be placed in a home with civilians and they have nowhere to go, but that's part of what this video is shining a light onto so not sure what your point is other than wanting to point fingers at people for an issue you know nothing about.

I would have stayed behind first before I left my partner behind. They are no different than the brother fighting next to you, and they will not leave you behind. Our military was and is run by idiots. The only reason they are changing is the dog's partners have brought this to the attention of the public and said ENOUGH!
