@@stephenclay2763 This is really interesting. I think Andy is just a lot more avante garde then youd expect from a guitar player in a band that has had such huge mainstream success. I believe a small minority of people seem to react negatively to his playing because they are just not used to something like this and most of the musicians and fans absolutely adore it because of the exact same reason. Ive fallen into the police rabbit whole maybe 3 weeks ago and he instantly became a huge inspiration for me because of his unusual style and top tier musicianship.
I had to play this through my good speakers to realize what a great bass player Sting had become by this time. Andy talks about this in the Rick Beato interview. Love the Hey Joe riff at the end.
@@mochammadmarsha4238 I'm sure they were all into it. Sting has covered three or four Hendrix songs, Andy jammed with Hendrix, and Stewart's favorite drummer is Mitch Mitchell.
they had the stove on HIGH & BROIL w/ this LIVE version. cooking up some serious funk; this is how u take a great track and make it... groovier w/ REAL instruments, a lost art on pop radio now: 0 drums or basslines or lead guitars... a shame: there was a time bands combined instruments w/ keyboards, but not anymore; this is the video u show those who don't know any better what REAL Rock & Funk is all about
Mindblowing and exciting live version of that iconic track and Andy's solo, wtf! Holy crap! Time for another Police reunion, guys, c'mon you can do it! The world is running down, we need to make the best of what's still around!!
It is an OMG remake of a great track, stretching the groove, opening space 4 Andy 2 Rip & Riff, STING's bassline 2 have added Pop & Power in tandem w/ Stewart's driving Drum & Cymbal work: the song lends itself 2 that type of improvisation; great that they "re-recoded it LIVE: and, given how the world always is, the Lyrics resonate in Timeless fashion: It's subject 2 debate, but I think it's the best track they ever recorded
Sting Wore That Bass Out, Andy Committed Murder On That Guitar & Stewart Was Just Plain Abusive On Them Drums! Those Fuckers R Outstanding, True Legends & Fuckin' Great Musicians! LOVE THE POLICE!!!
These THREE are just so great! What Humor. What effortless STYLE. What musicianship! Bass, guitar AND drums, bringing the Reeedonculous Groovy Thunder. No band like this on the Horizon today - Man were we lucky as young people in the 70's, 80's and even 90's. Didn't know it then, but every time I turn on radio or TV today - I sure know it now.
How does Stewart never play the same thing twice and yet keeps the beat going so well?????? And Andy’s solo is mind blowing!!!!! And Sting is, well, Sting!!!!! His voice is quite simply completely unique and beautifully in tune. Ladies and gentlemen...The Police!
Are you kidding me?? Stewart never plays the same thing exactly as before because he has to keep up with the quality of declining vocals. And Sting? In tune? Have you not heard this song sung in the 1980's? It kicked ass in that era. Sometimes things are best laid to rest. Get the album out instead.
These guys are great ! All of them ! Yeah, Sting is not in his twenties anymore, and maybe can't sing it the way he did in the early eighties. So what ? His bass playing is extraordinary, Andy's guitar solo is impeccable, and Stuart Copeland is nothing less than magnificent. Have a little respect.
This is how u expand a song, and give it Extra Groove w/ a lead guitar fueling the funk; it's a stunning revision of the Studio track; young artists, particularly in pop music, have no clue or ambition to make music w/ a real instrument approach; it's all 2 programmed & homogenized now, versus the "Prog" rock / funk/ New Wave bands that could COMBINE keyboards & Synthesizers w/ the instruments ; when's the last time u heard a Top 40 type song on the radio w/ REAL drums; or basslines ?
I don't think there's any setting, any genre in which Andy Summers would feel out of place. Take a moment and listen to what he does, and how he does it without extravagant gestures and practiced grimaces. All over that guit-fiddle.
This is one of the best bands to ever set foot on stage. Underrated as fuck during their time. However, their music will be played by musicians forever.
I saw the Police reunion tour in Atlantic City in 2008 and I remember thinking....., this band never sounded this good in its earlier incarnation. They got so much better with age....,
What a great version. My fave Police tune just got an upgrade. Andy's solo took me on a journey that compared to typical solos from other players, is unique and mysterious.

Played much faster than the album version... still it is a 2/2 metrum/ meter - like a march, you know :) one-two .. quite unusual in pop..even reggae but works so great here To me the best Police number by far
He played like that all the time - but the spotlight was rarely on Andy. One of the rock-jazz guitar greats
How to ruin a great song! Awful catawalling self indulgent ear screeching solo!

I dont even know what to say about this band anymore. Sting is like the perfect bass player. Incredible technique, tone and sense of musicality.
Holy crap Ive never seen Andy Summers play like that.
I recall Stewart Copeland saying they had to keep a tight reign on the time allowed for Andy's solos cause he'd go on for hours if they'd let him😄
Andy is a special player.
These 3- come on?!!!!
Andy Summers is very underrated!

Always have loved Copeland’s snare sound.
He’s the greatest living drummer
He is the BEST part of the band!!!!!
Best backbeat in the business. Is the trad grip the secret?
Just want to remind everyone that there are only *THREE* members of this band. Three. Making all that sound. Unbelievable.
Yes, theyre up there with Hendrix, Cream, Rush and co as a powerful 3 piece. Brilliant musicians these guys.
Unbelievable ain't it Mate.
Andy Summers is such an underrated guitarist.
Yes, but that one is one of the worst solo ever head! :D

It's an early 1950s Fender Precision bass and it certainly has some miles on it!

Sting's playing underneath the solo is also great, love the groove
Andy's thumbs up to the crowd at the end is way cool... " I humbly accept your recognition that you just heard a bad ass solo..."
Stunning performance.

In my opinion sting has improved a lot his bass playing technically. Compared with his early Police days
I am sure he has improved but he always laid down challenging bass parts and practiced incessantly to pull them off.
Andy got off and sting just rip that bass, i think its still smoking
Wow just Wow!

what's the problem? this version are more smoothy/jazzy groove...
