I believe that both views can be true. But I'm leaning more towards misleading video title. Clickbait is a thing and people are looking for a new and updated model. They see 2021 and would be more likely to believe this is a new model and not, a review in 2021. Which is why many people, say, two year review or put the model number in the title.

I bought this for the audio quality. It does High definition audio for music and it has better options for my theater room sound over the other options like fire stick and Roku.
Hi, just checking. Can I play media files stored in a NAS or any other storage media via this device? Also in that case, does this offer two hdmi ports? which leads to both screen and the av receiver?
@@stephanhan.8390 you can play from other Nas and servers no problem. It's easy to transfer files to the device on the network also, even wireless network. Only has one HDMI I believe. It should go to receiver then receiver out to Whater display you want.
Hi. Just wanted to know if it passes Dolby Atmos to the receiver when using its built-in appa like Netflix and Prime Video (assuming the content and the receiver are both Atmos).
I own the shield and several other firesticks and android boxes. I learned on the sticks and the box . Save your money and get the best of the best, The Shield. It works in real time for me, which is very different than where I started with the firesticks.
Me too shield wins everything although i did try a beelink gt pro or turbo and i must say that box was the fastest and best ive seen otherwise. Only downfall was not sideloading otherwise awesome box.
For streaming, i had a Chinese box and now i have the FS 4K Max. It is more then enough for iptv and youtube from my phone. The thing i really dislike is the Amazon bloat and launcher. And you are forced to use it. My Chinese box had a custom rom on it and it was really fast...
I don't understand why people are so smitten with rechargeable batteries embedded in the device. You can actually replace the AAA batteries without fanfare. Case in point my first gen Shield remote has a battery that has failed. I have to crack it open using tools, try not to ruin the finish and replace the battery ... if I can find the correct battery online somewhere and it hasn't already gone bad because the remote isn't being made anymore. People bitched about Microsoft using AA batteries for so long that they felt obliged but what was so damn hard about buying a charging kit for the controllers and having replaceable rechargeable batteries?

I just bought mine with amazon gift cards I got last nite. FREE, Lol! Finally moving up from the imports, my last 1 being a 8/128gb unit which actually works very well. Almost perfect bar the naff 16gb storage limitation. If running an extensive Plex server you will max out the 16gb with the Plex metadata alone, with no movies (assuming they are on your NAS) Edit: hotfixes have now fixed some of the core limitations around the USB compatibility. So I've now been able to add more storage successfully and plex is running well.

I went through 2 2015 model controllers and a newer model controller. I barely used them, the 2 older ones refused to power on after awhile and the newer one had bad analog stick drift.
I think Nvidia shield is over rated because I have amazon cube and its respond time for streaming is great and it supports web browser and it has usb port . Meanwhile, games on Nvidia shield is ok but I play all my games on the Xbox series X.
He neglected to mention that the upscaling only works for a few specific apps.....as well as this box now advertises at you 24/7 and it eats up half the screen. Once he hooks it up to the internet it would of had a forced update.
@@edog6770 the Nvidia updates are a no-brainer. The Google forced update however is a pain, but can be worked around with an addon launcher. There are how-to videos on here. The AI is great for movies and shows up to and including 1080p, and works automatically so the reviewer hasn't done his homework.

I can say that is not expensive at all, because is the best of the best of the streaming devices, nothing compare to it, even apple tv or other that you can find in the market, nothing compare.
Apple tv blows it away when it comes to streaming i have both and everything loads faster on the apple tv. Now the Nvidia shield blows the apple away with streaming games.
I have both the 2015 and the 2019 edition. I prefer the build quality of the 2015 version. Almost feels like you get less with 2019 version with the exception of the remote control! I don't game on this, I use it for Netflix etc. Both devices are great, not sure there's anything on the market to rival these boxes!
The Shield is an awfully expensive Netflix device. May as well get a Fire Stick or Chromecast if you are not going to game on your Shield as I see it? Or is video quality better?
They update it all the time. It just went to 19.1 this week! If you're looking for a complete re-design forget it. Nvidia is getting out of the streaming world.
Can someone explain what exactly does this NVIDIA box do? Can i watch Free PPV? Netflix? NFL games? Without having to pay for each and every network channel? If someone can give me the rundown i would greatly appreciate it alot 🙏 im trying to literally cut my cable bill to as low as possible. And i would love to watch movie theater movies for free without having to pay $20-30 bucks when they come out. Im tired of paying for Netflix just to watch maybe ONE good movie or show every few months or so. Im just sick of it.
I bought my Pro in Dec 2018 for $180, and they release a new one in 2019!! sucks to be me! 😭 I ordered the Q950A bar last night (arrives tomorrow) and was looking at vids on how to connect my Shield for Atmos and see all these vids talking about Upscaling but I don't have that option. To make matters worse, just last month, yes last month! I bought the new triangular remote as the touch seems to be playing up on the old & it cost me $50 bloody bucks, just another $150 & I could have had the latest 2019 version with the new remote 😡 🤬 This vid is confusing, he highlights that the AI Upscaling is awesome and yet advises to turn it off when watching movies??! So I'm not missing out by not getting the 2019 version? Thanks all & sorry for the rant. (I also just found out this morning that the Q990B is out, and they wont refund me, even though I paid for it just last night). 🤦♂️
All have microscopic aerials, you wont pick a thing up. Looking for the same to receive Freeview or Freesat without an aerial. Thats being replaced with Freeley end of April that only will be available on new TV 2024.
Btw, the AI enhancement creates an edge hardness to the right if the images, looks slightly artificial on movies, I’m not a gamer so I don’t know what it does for games. I do need some help with the USB audio output…. Can’t seem to make it work….. 😔

The Nvidia Shield is a good box overall but, the image quality is not the best. i have 4 devices. The amazon fire Cube 4k from 2017, a Walmart ONN android 4k Tv Box, The Google Chromecast TV 4k and the 2019 Nvidia Shield TV Pro box. The Shield runs smooth but, the image quality is not great. It looks good but, when i hook up the Google chromecast TV, the image quality is Vivid. so much details and the colors pop like wow.. The walmart ONN android tv box has a really good vivid image quality aswell. Its barely slower than the Chromecast TV but, it works really good for a $20 device. If Nvidia can come up with a update improving the HDR 10, Dolby Vision image quality, then i would use it more. Its a night and day difference between image quality. i am using the same HDMI cable on the nvidia shield tv pro box and also with the ONN android tv box. ( HDMI 4k 60fps ) for a expensive android box, the image quality should match the price. I have a 2021 model 65 inch 4k tv. I want to see a vivid image on the shield. you can easily see the difference on the home screen. the colors are good but, its not vivid. you do not get that pop image quality. try other boxes and you will understand what i am talking about.
I have seen many people complaining about the image quality of Nvidia Shield. I have a Minix neo u22-xj Max, it has a bright picture and vivid colours. I stream BT Sport 4K, the contrast is great. I was thinking about changing the MINIX with the Nvidia, but it seems that it is not worth it.
@@ukasz8589 People who use GeFore NOW could use a Shield TV with HDMI 2.1 because NOW recently added a 120 FPS option. Displaying 4K 120Hz would be nice, but there aren't any Shield TVs with HDMI 2.1 at the moment.
Couple gripes. It doesn't have wifi 6? Of course not. Last refresh was 2019. Time does not work that way. And then compares it to current Chromecast with Google tv which also doesn't have wifi 6??? Aside from that keep up the good work. You did pretty good

Dolby Atmos is supported in the shield box but how do U do U achieve it since the box does not come with a eARC port? Can I assume that the Dolby Atmos function is half-baked?
@@mattcee6323 it works just got my samsung q950a and a shield for my tv. earc dolby atmos true is only for pasthrough sound as far i know. but the shield doesn't have to pastrough the sound so it is true dolby atmos.
eARC is a return channel. This sends audio straight to your receiver or sound bar. So not half baked. eARC will send the audio out of a TVs hdmi INPUT to a receivers OUTPUT. But HDMI 2.0 devices are plenty capable of sending Bitstream audio along with 4k 60hz content to any device.
eARC is required for a TV to send uncompressed audio to a receiver over the same cable that the receiver passes through audio and video to the TV, that it's received from another device. Shield can send uncompresesd audio to a receiver with no problem. Also, Atmos does not require uncompressed audio, which is why it works ok with streamed content. So no, not halfbaked at all.
If you connect the shield directly to your soundbar, then you don't have to rely on earc or arc. The (lossless) audio will be transmitted through the hdmi cable without problems.
I hate that it doesn't support DDR 10+ and it's still the most expensive streaming box. Love the interface and use it for everything just a bit disappointed there's no HDR10+ support.
People have already pointed out this is the 2019 model and this guy still hasn't updated his title. Please report videos like these as misleading since youtube has removed the dislike counter allowing people like this guy to get away with shady stuff like this.
This video didn't even cover most important thing.......This box advertises at us continuously taking up almost half the damn screen now! Notice, he didnt allow the update and he even has a notification on his screen telling him that. Advertising is meant for free things to cover cost. The shield pro NEVER had advertising till this year. VERY disappointed in this review.
Good day, excellent video that exists for sure that this device does not transmit videos on youtube in HDR because it does not have the compatible codec to do so, and could indicate if that information is false or true since I am about to buy one and this detail I do not like.
I have a 2017 shield and bought firestick 4k. Firestick colors are too saturated and flahs on playback a big disappointment. I use the shield in my living room and firestick in bedroom. Amazon products not as good as before.
I bought mine in 2017.... It's really good especially what the gave me control that it came with..... But the only thing I don't like is that on the Google Play it doesn't show all the apps on Google Play.... Other than that it's a really good system... 10/10 if Google play had all the apps...
had 2017 models but sold when had to move then bought Apple TV 4k as $100 cheaper but missed retroarch. Have just received my 2019 Nvidia $459 and nice to have back. But I guess maybe I am only one who preferred the old remote control
I got my shield since 2018 work very well for the years that did now 2022 there's been upgrades to the OS I can't keep an internet connection I have a small TV that can connect to the internet never disconnects this thing is a champ I've talked about it so well but now disconnected reconnect to network it's annoying.
i kinda just want to use it as my front end for pc couch gaming. but streaming can kinda suck. i wish i could use the front end from something like this on a pc. you can switch inputs when you launch the game i guess lol.
I`d buy this just for playing 4k content ( mkv ) with Dolby Atmos feature. But, I`m wondering, is it worth buying if my Dolby Atmos 4kTV player can handle that already ?
And I'm sorry but the Roku in the Amazons don't offer as much audio formats The only fit three there's way more than that and it's transcoding who's only certain type of video formats that the other ones can handle when the Nvidia shield can handle all of them

Mine came with a messed up Wifi dual band. It would drop wifi when set to dual band. It's currently drifting along 2.4GHz. I could use wired ethernet, only when I get to the use case to warrant it. Wifi to reduce cable clutters.
I returned mine as it didn't support Directvnow and the remote was weird. I just bought it again as Roku Ultra doesn't support Atmos music in Tidal or Netflix and 4k streaming above 5 Mb/s isn't possible with Plex.

You forgot its one of the few with true HDMI passthrough audio That alone makes it worth it. $200 price tag It's welcome in any high end theater Perfect replacement for a HT PC Roku fail Fire tv ?
@@alejandroperez5368 Xiaomi Mi Box S doesn't support lossless audio passthrough unfortunately. The Shield has been and still is for some reason the only set top box that supports true HDMI audio passthrough without requiring reencoding. But they're two products in two different price categories, it's not entirely fair to directly compare them. Edit: Mi Box S does support Atmos DD+ and DTS though which, depending on your speaker setup, is more or less indistinguishable from formats like TrueHD and DTS:X/DTS-HD MA. Unless you have a whole home theater, the Mi Box S is a perfectly fine box if you're not looking for a Roku or Fire Stick.

Its great if you like UA-cam TV. Otherwise its not compatible with anything you want to use it with. I bought 2 of them and then changed to ATT TV . Had to deal with the limitations of my TV.
I create my own (holiday) videos, edited using Davinci Resolve, in UHD 50p HDR H265 Main10. The resultant mp4 files are placed on an external usb drive. I'd like to play these files on my LG CX TV, but the internal media player does not support HDR. It does actually play the files, but the results look dark and miserable. So, I need a media player. Will the Nvidia Shield TV Pro fit the bill ?
It was amazing when it first came out but now think about paying the original price for a "new" laptop with a 7 year old processor, 7 year old storage and 7 year old video processing and the old HDMI port and the old wifi tech.
i got the CCWGTV + usb-c hub + kodi (insert cool) build. im lying, im waiting for my usb-c hub... its coming soon. then ill decide whether i want to replace the whole thing with nvidia shield tv pro, or not. i dont really care about streaming games on it. however, i think its better to buy the shield pro because i ended up paying quite the same i think. maybe a lil bit cheaper but the shield pro is a faster device. my fav kodi build in CCWGTV is already being slowish but it works.

They're never going to revamp the Nvidia Shield Pro. Still the best Android TV setop box money can buy.
Just get a decent smart tv. My Samsung does all this and has Samsung TV built in.
One advantage of the shield is it runs at any internet speed other ones are capped at 100 mbs

Title is kind of deceptive since it's the 2019 edition and there isn't a 2021 edition...
Almost perfect bar the naff 16gb storage limitation. If running an extensive Plex server you will max out the 16gb with the Plex metadata alone, with no movies (assuming they are on your NAS)
Edit: hotfixes have now fixed some of the core limitations around the USB compatibility. So I've now been able to add more storage successfully and plex is running well.

Still got the 2015 and it's working well ! The Remote is also still very good !
That remote drove me mad. Sold it and got the new unit. Remote is 10x better .
I went through 2 2015 model controllers and a newer model controller. I barely used them, the 2 older ones refused to power on after awhile and the newer one had bad analog stick drift.

Misleading, there is no 2022 shield
I think Nvidia shield is over rated because I have amazon cube and its respond time for streaming is great and it supports web browser and it has usb port . Meanwhile, games on Nvidia shield is ok but I play all my games on the Xbox series X.

Probably games that would look particularly rough on a large screen.
He neglected to mention that the upscaling only works for a few specific apps.....as well as this box now advertises at you 24/7 and it eats up half the screen. Once he hooks it up to the internet it would of had a forced update.
@@edog6770 the Nvidia updates are a no-brainer. The Google forced update however is a pain, but can be worked around with an addon launcher. There are how-to videos on here. The AI is great for movies and shows up to and including 1080p, and works automatically so the reviewer hasn't done his homework.

Apple tv blows it away when it comes to streaming i have both and everything loads faster on the apple tv. Now the Nvidia shield blows the apple away with streaming games.

I have both the 2015 and the 2019 edition. I prefer the build quality of the 2015 version. Almost feels like you get less with 2019 version with the exception of the remote control! I don't game on this, I use it for Netflix etc. Both devices are great, not sure there's anything on the market to rival these boxes!
The Shield is an awfully expensive Netflix device. May as well get a Fire Stick or Chromecast if you are not going to game on your Shield as I see it? Or is video quality better?

Can someone explain what exactly does this NVIDIA box do? Can i watch Free PPV? Netflix? NFL games? Without having to pay for each and every network channel? And i would love to watch movie theater movies for free without having to pay $20-30 bucks when they come out. I bought my Pro in Dec 2018 for $180, and they release a new one in 2019!! sucks to be me! 😭 I ordered the Q950A bar last night (arrives tomorrow) and was looking at vids on how to connect my Shield for Atmos and see all these vids talking about Upscaling but I don't have that option. To make matters worse, just last month, yes last month! I bought the new triangular remote as the touch seems to be playing up on the old & it cost me $50 bloody bucks, just another $150 & I could have had the latest 2019 version with the new remote 😡 🤬
This vid is confusing, he highlights that the AI Upscaling is awesome and yet advises to turn it off when watching movies??! So I'm not missing out by not getting the 2019 version?

The Nvidia Shield is a good box overall but, the image quality is not the best. i have 4 devices. The amazon fire Cube 4k from 2017, a Walmart ONN android 4k Tv Box, The Google Chromecast TV 4k and the 2019 Nvidia Shield TV Pro box. The Shield runs smooth but, the image quality is not great. It looks good but, when i hook up the Google chromecast TV, the image quality is Vivid. so much details and the colors pop like wow.. The walmart ONN android tv box has a really good vivid image quality aswell. Its barely slower than the Chromecast TV but, it works really good for a $20 device. If Nvidia can come up with a update improving the HDR 10, Dolby Vision image quality, then i would use it more. Its a night and day difference between image quality. i am using the same HDMI cable on the nvidia shield tv pro box and also with the ONN android tv box. ( HDMI 4k 60fps ) for a expensive android box, the image quality should match the price. I have a 2021 model 65 inch 4k tv. I want to see a vivid image on the shield. you can easily see the difference on the home screen. the colors are good but, its not vivid. you do not get that pop image quality. try other boxes and you will understand what i am talking about.
I have seen many people complaining about the image quality of Nvidia Shield. I have a Minix neo u22-xj Max, it has a bright picture and vivid colours. I stream BT Sport 4K, the contrast is great. I was thinking about changing the MINIX with the Nvidia, but it seems that it is not worth it.

@@ukasz8589 People who use GeFore NOW could use a Shield TV with HDMI 2.1 because NOW recently added a 120 FPS option. Displaying 4K 120Hz would be nice, but there aren't any Shield TVs with HDMI 2.1 at the moment.

Wifi 5 is 3.5Gbps, wifi 6 is 9.6Gbps.. all theoretical ie you aint gonna get it. Run a wired ethernet and say goodbye to theory.
Dolby Atmos is supported in the shield box but how do U do U achieve it since the box does not come with a eARC port? Can I assume that the Dolby Atmos function is half-baked?

@@mattcee6323 it works just got my samsung q950a and a shield for my tv. earc dolby atmos true is only for pasthrough sound as far i know. but the shield doesn't have to pastrough the sound so it is true dolby atmos.
eARC is a return channel. This sends audio straight to your receiver or sound bar. So not half baked. eARC will send the audio out of a TVs hdmi INPUT to a receivers OUTPUT. But HDMI 2.0 devices are plenty capable of sending Bitstream audio along with 4k 60hz content to any device.
eARC is required for a TV to send uncompressed audio to a receiver over the same cable that the receiver passes through audio and video to the TV, that it's received from another device. Shield can send uncompresesd audio to a receiver with no problem.
Also, Atmos does not require uncompressed audio, which is why it works ok with streamed content.
So no, not halfbaked at all.
If you connect the shield directly to your soundbar, then you don't have to rely on earc or arc. The (lossless) audio will be transmitted through the hdmi cable without problems.
I hate that it doesn't support DDR 10+ and it's still the most expensive streaming box. Love the interface and use it for everything just a bit disappointed there's no HDR10+ support.
People have already pointed out this is the 2019 model and this guy still hasn't updated his title. Please report videos like these as misleading since youtube has removed the dislike counter allowing people like this guy to get away with shady stuff like this.
This video didn't even cover most important thing.......This box advertises at us continuously taking up almost half the damn screen now! Notice, he didnt allow the update and he even has a notification on his screen telling him that. Advertising is meant for free things to cover cost. The shield pro NEVER had advertising till this year. VERY disappointed in this review.

Good day, excellent video that exists for sure that this device does not transmit videos on youtube in HDR because it does not have the compatible codec to do so, and could indicate if that information is false or true since I am about to buy one and this detail I do not like.
My clue to it's dated was hdmi 2.0 No WiFi 6. I'll stay with Apple TV+ 4K f till they update.
Binned my shield as i found that the firestick 4K max is heaps better. Always had problems with the shield, none with the 4K max. Best thing I did

I have a 2017 shield and bought firestick 4k. Firestick colors are too saturated and flahs on playback a big disappointment. I use the shield in my living room and firestick in bedroom. Amazon products not as good as before.

I got my shield since 2018 work very well for the years that did now 2022 there's been upgrades to the OS I can't keep an internet connection I have a small TV that can connect to the internet never disconnects this thing is a champ I've talked about it so well but now disconnected reconnect to network it's annoying.

Yes. Lossless 3D Audio Passthrough is currently working only on nvidia shield.
I wish they would come up with better remote. I prefer one that is rechargeable and can lay flat on a table.

And I'm sorry but the Roku in the Amazons don't offer as much audio formats The only fit three there's way more than that and it's transcoding who's only certain type of video formats that the other ones can handle when the Nvidia shield can handle all of them

Mine came with a messed up Wifi dual band. It would drop wifi when set to dual band. It's currently drifting along 2.4GHz. I could use wired ethernet, only when I get to the use case to warrant it. Wifi to reduce cable clutters.
I returned mine as it didn't support Directvnow and the remote was weird. I just bought it again as Roku Ultra doesn't support Atmos music in Tidal or Netflix and 4k streaming above 5 Mb/s isn't possible with Plex.

@@alejandroperez5368 Xiaomi Mi Box S doesn't support lossless audio passthrough unfortunately. The Shield has been and still is for some reason the only set top box that supports true HDMI audio passthrough without requiring reencoding. But they're two products in two different price categories, it's not entirely fair to directly compare them.
Edit: Mi Box S does support Atmos DD+ and DTS though which, depending on your speaker setup, is more or less indistinguishable from formats like TrueHD and DTS:X/DTS-HD MA. Unless you have a whole home theater, the Mi Box S is a perfectly fine box if you're not looking for a Roku or Fire Stick.

Its great if you like UA-cam TV. Otherwise its not compatible with anything you want to use it with. I bought 2 of them and then changed to ATT TV . Had to deal with the limitations of my TV.
I create my own (holiday) videos, edited using Davinci Resolve, in UHD 50p HDR H265 Main10. The resultant mp4 files are placed on an external usb drive. I'd like to play these files on my LG CX TV, but the internal media player does not support HDR. It does actually play the files, but the results look dark and miserable. So, I need a media player. Will the Nvidia Shield TV Pro fit the bill ?
I still don't get why they don't go full android, if they did that would be the ultimate streaming device.

It was amazing when it first came out but now think about paying the original price for a "new" laptop with a 7 year old processor, 7 year old storage and 7 year old video processing and the old HDMI port and the old wifi tech.
i got the CCWGTV + usb-c hub + kodi (insert cool) build. im lying, im waiting for my usb-c hub... its coming soon. then ill decide whether i want to replace the whole thing with nvidia shield tv pro, or not.
i dont really care about streaming games on it.
however, i think its better to buy the shield pro because i ended up paying quite the same i think.
maybe a lil bit cheaper but the shield pro is a faster device. my fav kodi build in CCWGTV is already being slowish but it works.
