Thanks, I had the 2017 Pro, and upgraded to the 2019 Pro several months ago. I have never regretted the few extra dollars spent to go to the Shield. It has been fantastic, and I do love the new remote. I am often watching a movie in the dark, and just picking up the remote and seeing the button needed to pause while I go to the ba, er, go to make popcorn, is golden. Everything else about it is great, as well. No complaints, and no, I do not work for Nvidia! Peace.
As an owner of this, I can tell you that the upscaling is great on everything but text with a thin font. On that, it looks like over-sharpening hell. I'd still recommend it, though.
I absolutely LOVE my shield TV pro 😁 I'm SOOO glad I invested in this back in 2020. The AI upscaling definitely helps in a lot of situations, although not all of them. But it DEFINITELY makes stuff like anime that was sub 1080p look WAAAYYY better. Like it's extremely noticable. Plus this thing just has a ton of other great features. It's my defacto streaming box for sure. Also, the new updates clean up the UI quite a bit
@@thedislikebutton1907 I don't own a shield, but the upscaling has been said to be integrated into Shield UI, so it is supposedly globally applicable to any app installed on it. Even games. Although since games are being rendered in real-time, I reckon the AI upscaler might not look as good in gaming as it does when watching pre-rendered videos. DLSS is a better upscaler for gaming, but unfortunately I don't believe it's supported on the NVIDIA Shield.
I've got one since they launched back in 2017, and it's been my best gadget purchase in a LONG time. There's simply nothing that comes even close in terms of speed. BTW, I also use it as a NES/SNES/GBA emulator and it's just perfect for that purpose.
I find it causes aliasing on flash animated cartoons though, yet if you can ignore it still looks nicer overall. Switching to my TV apps feels like taking my glasses off.
I could see some differences, as he said it doesn't do everything, just enough. But anyway, you have to realise you are watching UA-cam which means loads of compression so it is much harder to see the differences

I’m remembering in the early first days of the public acknowledgement of AI, Nvidia had headhunters out looking for people to hire that would help build this stuff. At the time a guy I knew was courted by them and I couldn’t imagine what Nvidia would want with AI, well now I know. This and the RTX audio stuff are awesome

yes, it's outdated. HDMI 2.0 is one thing, and even the 2019 Pro Shield doesn't support VP9.2, that's mean no HDR10 in UA-cam. Still plays HDR fine in Netflix, HBO or Kodi/VLC but never on youtube (hardware limitation)
Had my shield since 2016 but can't see spending another $200+ on 2019 edition. The power difference in the Integra + chip isn't that much more powerful. Maybe we'll get that in a future update....
I have the Pro and I love it, but probably worth mentioning the 2019 non-pro only ships with a 32bit OS. Also the AI upscaler cannot run on content over 30fps.
They need this for gaming monitors. They don’t need graphics grinding to pump out 4k, they just need 2k upconverted to 4k! Soon, monitors will have this built in.
I never thought I would see the day so soon that 1080 would be considered low quality. Especially when the major video game consoles are just now finally getting there lol. But I get it. When I'm working in photoshop designing textures for my Unity projects, I notice the pixels in anything less than 2k. Especially if I'm making clothing or skin textures because even if it's a 4k texture only a small part of it wraps around each body part. You see those pixels blatantly.
Even in 4K on UA-cam, you'd probably need to be in front of the screen to notice. Maybe not as close as Linus was sitting. I have one and on HD 1080p stuff it works great. I didn't like the effect it had on older live action movies. I have a digital copy of the first Austin Powers movie and the AI upscaling just looks bad.
I don't see it in the video either on my pc and monitor(1080p only). However I have the shield pro myself, and it's a significant image quality boost. Especially on stuff like watches etc. I'd argue it get's close to the average 4k netflix stream, on a good 1080p source. Of course it may not technically, but looks close to my eyes.
@@LukewarmEnthusiast I don't have the same exact TV, but I have a C6 from a few years back. The TV upscales and my Denon receiver upscales. It took me a while to see a difference, but look at the part with the mine cart and you should be able to easily notice the wood panel texture appears noticably sharper with the AI. The non-ai half of the wooden minecart looks blurry by comparison. Although, I'd like to see a side by side comaparison with another high quality calibrated TV and see if the AI can really produce a better image than a top of the line reference panel.

You will see improvements in sharpness up to a density of 300 Pixels Per Degree. That's sitting 18 feet away from a 55" 4K TV. Historically people like Apple use 60PPD in their marketing as a "limit of human vision" but that's only in specific test patterns with consistent repeating lines, you can see up to 5X more detail in low frequency patterns (basically everything you look at that isn't a lp/mm test chart). michaelbach.de/ot/lum-hyperacuity/index.html There is something to be said for "diminishing returns", the closer you get to 300PPD the harder it will be to see improvements, but virtually any normal home theater will be well below 200PPD and high quality 4K content will always look dramatically sharper.
Three TV's and I've tossed out all other streaming boxes, have a shield on each one. I've used Fire TV, Roku's, Apple TV and even other Android TV boxes.. the shield is the only one that makes me 100% satisfied.. (and being able to map my NAS as local storage is just a HUGE plus that I was not able to do on any other device)
We chucked our tv out and got 2 projectors, one for living room n one for the bedroom. Each has a shield and that is all we need. They are being used daily! A 2015 and 2017 model. I've also tried countless other streaming boxes before. All junk compared to the shield.
Been a user of 2x Shield TVs since they first came out in 2015, skipped the 'upgraded' 2017 model but upgraded to the 2019 model in early 2020. The 2015 models worked flawlessly for all 4 years I had them, aside from the fact I wanted the AI upscaling, I could have suck with them into this year and beyond too. Really solid devices. Another plus is that they seem to hold their value well too, granted I purchased the 2015 models while they were on offer, but even so, when I sold them at the beginning of 2020 I made a 'loss' of ~£10-£15 each compared to the original price I paid. Awesome value.
Using AI upscaling, I made this video 8K again. As intended by the RED Cameras!

What’s funny, is that for free, with torrent, you get better speed, and quality. Why? Because that’s the way it should be

Peace.

tuban body slammer I was straining to see the difference too and I also realized I’m on my phone IN 360p no less. Lmao
As an owner of this, I can tell you that the upscaling is great on everything but text with a thin font. On that, it looks like over-sharpening hell. I'd still recommend it, though.

UA-cam:480p hahahahahaaaa...
Does this work on every video playing? And any app? What about games?
@@thedislikebutton1907 I don't own a shield, but the upscaling has been said to be integrated into Shield UI, so it is supposedly globally applicable to any app installed on it. Even games. Although since games are being rendered in real-time, I reckon the AI upscaler might not look as good in gaming as it does when watching pre-rendered videos. DLSS is a better upscaler for gaming, but unfortunately I don't believe it's supported on the NVIDIA Shield.

You see those pixels blatantly.

yeah you need to watch the video in 4k to really see it
Even in 4K on UA-cam, you'd probably need to be in front of the screen to notice.
@@SerpentDrago so what's the point to make video about video quality, then process video and edit it and upload to youtube to say look this video is the same on your screen but in my screen it looks litle bit diferent :D this video make no sense. and if you saw it, that's great :) it's like say here you go 10bit video it looks amazing on your 8bit screen :D
You will see improvements in sharpness up to a density of 300 Pixels Per Degree.
That's sitting 18 feet away from a 55" 4K TV.
Historically people like Apple use 60PPD in their marketing as a "limit of human vision" but that's only in specific test patterns with consistent repeating lines, you can see up to 5X more detail in low frequency patterns (basically everything you look at that isn't a lp/mm test chart).
michaelbach.de/ot/lum-hyperacuity/index.html
There is something to be said for "diminishing returns", the closer you get to 300PPD the harder it will be to see improvements, but virtually any normal home theater will be well below 200PPD and high quality 4K content will always look dramatically sharper.
Why is real-time video AI upscaling available on the NVIDIA SHIELD but not PCs with NVIDIA GPUs?
Three TV's and I've tossed out all other streaming boxes, have a shield on each one. I've used Fire TV, Roku's, Apple TV and even other Android TV boxes.. the shield is the only one that makes me 100% satisfied.. (and being able to map my NAS as local storage is just a HUGE plus that I was not able to do on any other device)
Jason getting ready to buy my second shield, for the next tv in line :) you’re right about that
We chucked our tv out and got 2 projectors, one for living room n one for the bedroom. Each has a shield and that is all we need. They are being used daily! A 2015 and 2017 model. I've also tried countless other streaming boxes before. All junk compared to the shield.

You joke about AI upscaling to 4k but isn't that literally what DLSS does on Nvidia's GPUs?
