    In case anybody is still using this video: the gas tube where the spring goes should NOT be oiled like this. On mine it is stenciled from the factory, under the forestock, that the inside of the gas tube should be kept clean and dry, no oil. I assume this is meant to keep the hot gasses from making it even dirtier?

    thanks for posting this. i finally found one, and will share my own impressions.
    1) mine is the Montgomery Ward "Western Field" line of the Remington 878 made in 1967
    2) it handles heavy loads no problem
    3) it handles light recoil loads no problem
    4) the overall quality is incredible
    It only allows 1 in the chamber, plus 2 in the magazine - a fault for hunting, but a plus for sport shooting
    The first time I fired this one, it blew out the bullseye on the first target. My remaining rounds went through the same hole.
    The recoil is so light, yet the gun can handle 1600 fps slugs as easily as subsonic light recoil birdshot. With no malfunctions. All cycled perfectly.
    This is a jewel. Find one, if you can.

    Very fascinating! The gas system on the shotgun is completely different than on the 1100.

    2024 thanks for this. I cant find any other examples of this takedown. Been waiting to clean mine till I knew what I was looking at. The gas system sneaks up on you if your not aware lol

    What kind of shells are you you using, because if you use fx. 24gr 28gr (1 oz) you might have problems with these older shotguns! Also clean the gun very well, and make sure that the gas holes or ports, are not clogged with old powder and other shit!! ;) Good luck

    sir how does that shotgun do with low brass, high brass, buckshot and slugs? thank you

    • @njaln
      @njaln  5 років тому +1

      It cycles most stuff, but mine was showing wear after shooting some slugs and other high brass shells, so i would recomend keeping to the ligther loads!

    Can you put a pistol grip on the 878 if so which one will fit

    • @R_K_S2401
      @R_K_S2401 Рік тому +1

      Why would you put pistol grip on an 878 though? I'm pretty sure you can't use a pistol grip with a stock on shotguns for skeet or clays. It's not very tactical because its got a giant barrel and only holds three rounds. I doubt there is one because they 878 wasn't around for too long
