Hello, I also have an eclipse 1A engine. It is attached to a Fairbanks Typhoon water pump. The gentleman I bought it from said these engines are not an oil filled crankcase engine. All lubrication is provided by the drip oiler and flung all around the crankcase while running. This could be why it’s blowing oil out of the breather as bad as it is. I have around 20 hours of run time on mine since owning it and the only lubrication mine gets is from the oiler and it runs just fine.
Good looking project and some useful tips. I just bought a Fairbanks Morse Eclipse fairly similar with two flywheels, but the upper casting just says ECLIPSE, with no 1A or 2 or anything else. I don't see a serial number. There's a VA10 I think on the crankcase and a VA13 on one of the two flywheels. That flywheel has a flip out handle for starting. The other flywheel has holes for mounting a belt driving drum or whatever. The crankcase is somewhat narrower and has a more rounded or teardrop shape. I have pictures of course. I need to get a vibrating spark generator setup to run it, but the compression feels nice and I was assured by a couple people who've seen it run in recent history that it runs. My first Hit or Miss, so lots to learn. I wonder where to post the pictures and get help with ID, etc. I understand the ignition timing feature and the choke and needle valve, although I don't know where to set needle and timing for starting. I'd guess the timing goes full retarded and the needle starts maybe half a turn open and just keep opening it a little until it starts.
There is a good Facebook Group for Fairbanks Morse engines that can provide you with various opinions to sort through. Also, Smokstak has a good discussion group on specific engines as well. Good luck and thanks for the kind words!!
AWESOME! My buddy just picked up one of the single flywheel versions along with one of the larger 2HP dual wheel versions earlier last year! The small one was a total basket case but he got it all up and going and it actually made it to it's first show this summer ( See my latest video on the LIAPA show to see it) They're super neat little engines! I don't remember what he ended up doing for a crank case breather but now I'm going to have to ask him lol! Also if you could share your info on getting gas tanks or any other info you found about these that would be awesome! Yours seems a touch low on compression compared to his, but it runs amazing none the less! Looks super great on that skid with the matching battery box and old sires too! Now I kinda want to get one lol! Very nice job!
Hello i have a eclipse 1a i have put new rings in it i have put ball bearing in drip oiler .And your set up on elbow thanks for that. Oil up to bottom hole in sump 1 drip per 30 seconds in oiler . Runs great but still puts oil out of exhaust do you put less oil in yours. Your help greatly appreciated

I have since found that to be true as well....
They are neat little engines!
If I’m not mistaken the threaded hole you have plugged is overflow for oil the bottom threaded hole is fill line with drip Oiler going
That last run was sounding nice 👍👍🇺🇸
Excellent Work Doc 👍
..Great video Doc. Looking forward to the next one..

Thanks for the kind words! I left the fuel tank info in my comments for others to see as well....
Nice engine
You where saying you have a connection for fuel tanks I have been looking for a tank for a 1929 Briggs & Stratton F I
You might try Flywheel Supply...

It sounds like you're oiling the cylinder just a little too much. Try cutting back on the drip a little at a time until it cleans up.
@@enjundoc Thanks for that i will slowly keep cutting back 1 drip per 30 seconds at the moment thanks for reply
I have a eclipse 2, original fuel tank is rotted out. I would be interested where you got yours, thanks
I left the info in the comments. Thanks!!
I guess I'm not seeing where you wrote in the comments where you got your tank. Appreciate all the videos, thanks
