Was developed by United Front Games, they closed up back in 2016.. A sequel was in the works though and sounded really good on paper. Direct continuation from the first game, Wei would have been joined by a 'conflicted, corrupt' partner Henry Feng as they explored China's Pearl River Delta. Arresting any NPC was possible and would influence a branching stoyline that swapped between both Wei and Henry. Additionally, there was to be a mobile game where you'd manage the police force and take territory as non other than Jane Teng, with the actions in the mobile being reflected within Sleeping Dogs 2.
Absolutely agreed, but sadly United Front (the original developers) closed down 8 years ago because of the struggle this game had, and the extremely poor reception of their pseudo sequel MMO that flopped hard.

Pretty sure the explanation for Wei Shen doing extracurricular criminal activities is that he has to maintain appearances. He can't just be like "Nope, I'm not gonna do any crime for you fellow criminal. I don't feel like criming today."
I think the ending of the game pretty much sums it up, even if it doesn't highlight it with a whole verbal explanation. Despite his own protestations to the opposite, Wei Shen is pretty clearly shown to be, at the very best, teetering on the edge. He does have to maintain appearances, and pretty evidently does use that to justify it, but the game narrative and ending making it fairly clear that his internal line between having to do something because he has to maintain appearances and choosing to do something because he's becoming an actual gangster has turned become blurry.

There are 2 games that you didn't mention: 1. Prison Simulator: In that game, you are a prison guard. You have to balance gaining respect of fellow corrections officers & gaining respect of the inmates. However, you can attack both guards & inmates. You can even take bribes & confiscate items to sell or use later. 2. Police Simulator Patrol Officers: While this game will punish you for not doing things by the book, you can turn certain parts off. Its fun to be a bad cop by making false arrests, towing people's vehicles needlessly, or performing illegal searches. What's fun is smashing into their vehicle & giving them a blank accident report.

N.A.R.C was a really goofy game, but i loved it as a kid, the overworld music when you were patrolling the streets is forever in my brain, its so relaxing and also goofy af, just like the game is in it. For anyone that may be on the lookout for this, the song is called Pusherman, and the autor Curtis Mayfield
I don't believe Romance of the Three Kingdoms has made any appearances in a gameranx video, but it would be fitting here. In a few of the games, you can work in the upper echelons of government and pursue your own interests above those of the city. You can pocket money for yourself, take bribes, and divert resources to benefit yourself or enemies of the city you are supposed to be governing.
Actually, Sleeping Dogs does give an explanation for why you're working for the Loan Shark (who also doubles as the owner of a chop shop/gray market car importer) and it's because he has ties to the Triad you're undercover with, so they send you to him to get good paying work, as a reward for previous help.
I was thinking of Overlord 1 and 2. Obvious you are the "bad" guy, but there are choices to make throughout the game, to determine if you are a "good" bad guy or a "bad" bad guy.
That's about being good or evil(or I guess about being super evil or less evil), not specifically about corruption though, since the Overlord is a lawless tyrant with absulute power by definition, so he can't be corrupt in the political sense. To be corrupt, you need to have opportunities to act against the law.
Sleeping Dogs is one of my favorite games of all time, play through it again at least once a year and love it every time. Desperately need another GTA style game with a large focus on melee martial arts combat
Yo, Jake my man, this may be one of your best list videos to date! Whether narrated by Jake or his mysterious spirit animal Falcon, these have always been some of the best list videos around, but I found this one to be particularly well-written and well-delivered,
If only they didn't ever made sleeping dogshit and only released a sequel to true Crime 2 I'd be happy with it... But sleeping dogshit was so bad it made me absolutely despise the whole series for ending up like that.
I have to admit, I never played the sleeping dogs series (although I’m well aware of its awesomeness) Downloaded it this morning and excited to jump in for my first time
This will sound so dumb, but the mobile game BitLife was so much more fun to do crime, gamble, try to get away with murder and escape from prison if you get caught etc. Just a fun game to be a psycho in.
At 9 years old I have been an inch close to being arrested for a stink bomb at laser tag, these cops are sick and will do whatever it takes to get benefit. They discuss me to no end. It makes a horral game look like paradise. Pretty sure Sleeping Dogs explains the debt collection mechanic and every other dirty job in a narrative fashion. Wei can't just avoid tasks being given to him, especially when we still wasn't in an authoritative position amongst the Triads. That's kind of the point of being undercover after all. Thank you for giving the respect to the True Crime Series and Sleeping dogs. They do not get the recognition that they deserve at all. Need more games like this again.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching! :)
6:41 hmmm sounds familiar 🍊
Trump? (Orange)
N.A.R.C was a really goofy game, but i loved it as a kid, the overworld music when you were patrolling the streets is forever in my brain, its so relaxing and also goofy af, just like the game is in it.
For anyone that may be on the lookout for this, the song is called Pusherman, and the autor Curtis Mayfield
u forgot fable, democracy, black and white, tropico, the sims , spore
Ohh man Narc! I wish they would remake that one for sure
I love Tropico, i have 4 to 6 on steam. All because I found Tropico 3, iirc, on the xbox store when it was updating and I wanted to play a demo.
NARC was amazing and fun as hell to play ... Wish they do a remake of that game💯
The love for Sleeping Dogs makes me happy ❤
haha hey we’re glad you enjoyed this one!
It makes me sad that people liked that game lol
@@H3aling808 whatever you say pal....
Ah something this channel and games have in common. It's about time.
Lmao. Is this channel corrupt?
What no Narc!! You missed this gem guys.
I would love to see a Top 10 each of Jake's and Falcon's favorite games 👏
haha thanks for the suggestion!
Sleeping Dogs is one of my favorite games of all time, play through it again at least once a year and love it every time. Desperately need another GTA style game with a large focus on melee martial arts combat
Yo, Jake my man, this may be one of your best list videos to date! Whether narrated by Jake or his mysterious spirit animal Falcon, these have always been some of the best list videos around, but I found this one to be particularly well-written and well-delivered,
"If you are in your corp. uniform, you can basically just arrest anyone you want."
So true nowadays in HK.
Damn I want a new True Crime or Sleeping Dogs...
We couldn’t agree more! :)
If only they didn't ever made sleeping dogshit and only released a sequel to true Crime 2 I'd be happy with it... But sleeping dogshit was so bad it made me absolutely despise the whole series for ending up like that.

“The whole good cop, bad cop, system is ridiculous, and probably wouldn’t fly in todays gaming market..”
Red Dead Redemption 2 - 🤠
Hello, Jake!!
Hey
I have to admit, I never played the sleeping dogs series (although I’m well aware of its awesomeness)
Downloaded it this morning and excited to jump in for my first time
This will sound so dumb, but the mobile game BitLife was so much more fun to do crime, gamble, try to get away with murder and escape from prison if you get caught etc. Just a fun game to be a psycho in.
Moral: our values align
Morally gray: enough of our values align
Immoral: our values are in opposition to each other
At 9 years old I have been an inch close to being arrested for a stink bomb at laser tag, these cops are sick and will do whatever it takes to get benefit. They discuss me to no end. Traumatized a 9 year old just to progress their career. This world sickens me to no extent. I suffer panic attacks, OCD, and servers depression. I have witnessed a world few would dare to. It makes a horral game look like paradise. Just got discharged from my psychiatrist because my mom gave me an ativan 1mg because my psychiatrist wouldn't prescribe me enough to stop the panic attacks. Anyone looking for horror just take my brain. Shit is agony.
Love the videos keepem coming
You should do a "10 or 20 absolute best action sequence in a video game" video if you haven't done it of course lol. 🔥
Man, True Crime LA is one of the first games I've played in my first console which is PS2 lol, I love how goofy the story can be while being really enjoyable at the same time, but I can't be the only one that had the first primal rage with that Boss fight Lola Gees SHE KEEPS SPAMMING THAT BACKFLIP.
We need a part 2 and include Fable.
"I want my money now!" should be "I want good tea now!"
i was almost expecting Fable to be on this list lol
I've been playing Sleeping Dogs for weeks now and putting it in that Friday Show thread. It's great to see it on a list once more
Postal 2. Nothing will ever beat Postal 2. The developer is named "Running with Scissors", what more could you want?
it's not "corrupt", it's about being an absolute menance to the society
and now, The flowers will grow
Fable should be on the list
I have finished Disco Elysium half a year ago and am still looking for a game to fill that void. Truly a masterpiece. Also, so good to see this i the police on the list.
Hi gameranx! Greetings from Pakistan 🇵🇰
Hey
Pretty sure Sleeping Dogs explains the debt collection mechanic and every other dirty job in a narrative fashion. Wei can't just avoid tasks being given to him, especially when we still wasn't in an authoritative position amongst the Triads. That's kind of the point of being undercover after all. Anyway, still wish we'd get a second Sleeping Dogs game.
Dope. I'm playing through Yakuza 4.

The Beholder (trilogy) is a great game about corruption.
