- This video is part of a Q&A which answers one of the questions I get asked frequently "What advice & tips can you give artists". There are heaps more questions I will answer in the future, and instead of creating one single Q&A video answering multiple questions, I decided to answer them separately for future reference and also to allow me to elaborate on my answers. I hope you enjoy!

The best art advice I've received was from my 6th grade art teacher, who said: Draw every day. It doesn't matter if it good, or finished, or original, just draw, and the rest will follow.
great advice.
One piece of advice i think isn't emphasized enough: you don't need good supplies to do good work. use the supplies that inspire you.
But it improves the quality of your work so in a way it does make good art
i love your advice. i especially loved how you clarified that you don't have to practice everyday, because i have been in so many art classes where the teacher tells their students that you have to create art everyday. some days, there's just not enough hours.
Shit Show i agree my art teacher puts too much pressure on me and it ends up looking really bad. I normally don't want to have to do it.
agreed
Shit Show no you really should try to draw something everyday even if it's a 5 minute figure drawing, especially if you want to be a professional artist
SuperBlueboy2010 yeah, i'd just get stressed out when i was younger, thinking i was going to fail as an artist because i didn't have time ://///
For me, i never draw something if i dont feel like it. Art should never be forced. Well, thats my opinion
I can't even look at paper and pencil anymore. I needed this. Thank you.
Aw I hope you're doing ok :) and thank you for the feedback!
Your production quality in this video is seriously amazing. The advice is also great, but I'm seriously blown away by how much effort and time went into this video.
Monique Renee I thought the same!
best advice I've gotten (Since I started hyperrealism) is "draw it how it is, not hoe you think it is"
also. Do not hurry with your art. I get questions all the time about how long it takes to finish a drawing. And the answer is that it takes a long time! you need to be patient to reach your goal.
OMG YAS I love that advice and constantly remind myself whenever I'm drawing from reference or from life 🙌
Don't try to be better than others, but try to be better than you used to be. 💖 Best advice ever!😌😊
YASSS 🙌 That should what we remind ourselves from time to time when we start thinking "I want to be as good as that artist" or "I want to do better than that artist"
everytime i look at my old im like "OH SHIT IVE IMPROVED 0:"
one of the best feelings tbh xD
Use paint brushes to smudge, lighter u wanna draw the further up u hold on the pencil, when drawing realistic things try putting it in shapes( easier that way)
those are really good and handy techniques!! :D
sp inspiring! i wish that i could draw like you one day but im working on it, i will most definatly use your advice! thank youu
Thank you! And improving is definitely a lot of work and a long process so all the best! 👊🏼
To improve as an artist, try to learn more things. Like painting, digital, etc. That is how we all learn and grow.
I love this advice, thank you so much. I'm 15 and I think putting myself out there seems like such a big step, I feel like I'm not ready or my art isn't good enough. Or if I'm really qualified to call myself an "artist". I'm kinda just used to the compliments when people just flip through my sketchbook when they ask.
I'm 15 as well and I feel the exact same! I´m on a art school and everyone tells me that what I do looks nice, but then when I see other types of work from other people I feel like my work isn't good enough to be put out there
Very well put together. Thanks for sharing :)
thank you so much!!!
Corrina Peckford agreed!
I congratulate you for making another great video
honestly your advice was the best ive heard... im always comparing myself to my favorite artists and wishing i was as good as him and makes me think im not good enough.. your advice really helped me thank you so much❤
What great advice. This is what I needed to hear today!
This was honestly so helpful. I can’t thank you enough for making this video.
The best edvice I have gotten is, that it's art and that's all it is and will ever be no matter what it is and how good it is in the end just make it yours
ooh that's a very poetic advice. and definitely just make it YOURS 🙌
You are such an inspiration! Thank you for being so helpfull and always give advice during my growing pre-artist carreer. Love you
Thank you so much for the kind feedback ^_^ wishing you all the best in your pre-artist (and artist) career!
It's been three years that I haven't draw and it's my longest burnout still. Up until now, I have no courage to start drawing again. Thank you for such an inspiring and motivating video. Even though I'm positive that I won't be drawing anymore, your inspiring talk makes me want to explore the world I once abandoned more.
Thank you!
wow. thank you for this, this is a really helpful video and it motivates me to continue my learning
So true. Practice brings transformation in anything. Thank you for sharing this info x
ooh I love that
Thank you for the advice..I'm looking forward to seeing myself applying your advices and I hope your advice can really help me improve myself in the future..
This video give me life to draw and believe in art again

Such a great job editing!
Very motivating! Thank you so much for these inspirational tips :D
Love this advice video!! I'm an ok artist and this video helped me a lot about how I can improve!! Thanks!!
This is a beautiful and inspiring video, I haven't been good drawings since I was a kid but now that I want so much to create some clothes and know more about the fashion world I am improving myself and I can see that is not too bad as I thought. When I am drawing I feel fulfilled despite the frustrations kk and it is really good to me. Thank you for your videos!!!!
Hi! I think your art is amazing. I seriously take most of your art work as inspiration. I really love art as it helps me imagine more and it clears my mind. I really do want to get better at it. This video was really helpful. Good luck for the future.
thank u so much for the advice :) u gave me so much hope
you are such an inspiration, very good advice
I really needed this:)
I didn't want this video to end! Every video you make gets me so inspired!
ArtDoneWithGrace agreed!
So inspiring 😭💓
This is such a creative and high quality video ❤️❤️
I NEEDED THIS TODAY
Thank you so much for making this video! I always compare myself to other artists and wonder when i'll finally be able to draw like them.....i shuld stop doing that
thank you for sharing!
I love this video so much. Thank you!
thank you ^^
The best advice is to never give up even if you failed, cause that means u r learning
Tysm! This helped a lot and I love your artwork💜
thank you so much! ^_^
i know you mentioned stuff that everyone always says but the way you put it and make it feel like we are a community of artist trying to improve is what made this video unique. Every other video like this usually makes it seems like the artist is better than the rest and is already made it but still tries to tell others to "practice and practice" which is true in a way...
When i was younger (10/11) my uncle who is a digital artist, and art techer, said "Just draw. Dont stop, just becouse u dont have a place ona page. Add a new page. Just draw."
And that stayed in my mind for years
great job!!!!! you are so inspiring! thank you ❤
thank youu :)
ahh I really liked this video it was very uplifting and reassuring 😊 especially the "don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle"
Thank you! and RIGHT?! that quote completely resonated with me I'm glad it did with you too :D
I love your art wow! this advice was really helpful and I think I'm going to try and experiment more. I usually stick to my comfort zone but I want to try things other than acrylic:)
Beautiful! So proud of you!!!!!
aw thank you so much ^_^
great and helpful video! thank you so much for making this! ^-^
thank you so much ^^
the best advice I ever received was right before I went to college, and it was just three words: "Don't wash out".
Zyra, I have followed your channel more or less from the beginning and (as cheesy as it is) it has been a pleasure to watch you grow as an artist and possibly the most inspiring thing for me to try to grow as an artist myself so, all I can say is thank you! Loved this video, very professionally put together. Love from here in cold England 😊x
EEP THANK YOU SO MUCH! the long time support is super appreciated plus thank you for noticing the video and how it was put together. I really tried and worked hard on it, so it really means a lot ^_^ Stay warm hehe :D
Fabulous video, I seriously needed this!
thank you and all the best with your art :D
Amazing video 💖
Thank you for the great tips♡ you also demonstrated them really creatively~ 😊
aw thank you haha I really tried so it means a lot ^_^
Patience really does matter! I have a lot of unfinished art because my motivation had been killed by how it was looking. I felt it was going nowhere even though I had just spend 10 minutes on it and of course it wouldn't have been good. I just wasn't patient enough to keep working on it
Really awesome production value
Zyre please! Can you make a tour of those black notebooks that you use as sketchbooks/journals??? please I would love to see them ❤
thank you so much you're great😍😍
thank you so much for this video I was going through a inspirational crise and you helped me again like all the other times, thank you and I respect you a lot
I hope you're doing better now ^_^ and thank you for the kind words :)

thank you :)
So great video and I am agree for me for progress it's practice and more and be patient ^^
thank you so much :) and good luck!
I am still a learning and deveoping artist but it's something I've been doing for quite a few years now and I think some advice I would give someone is to look at your old art. It may be cringy but every couple of months and especially at the start of a new year, revisit your old art ad recognize your improvement. Seeing how far I've come since when I first started drawing always inspires me and lets me know that I'm headed in the right direction and I think other people should be inspired from their own improvement.
yes! it's definitely a rewarding feeling when we notice our own improvements big or small :D
thank you!!😁
I LOVEEEEEE henn Kim's art, surprised that you follow her 💖
im honestly short of words...that was too amazing.
thank you so much, u really wont imagine how much this video encouraged me and gave me a lift up to continue practicing and trying.
i related to every single thing you mentioned and im just thankful u made this wonderful video! Thank you.
((btw ur voice and accent are so similar to mine that its scary lol))
I AM YOU haha
and thank you so much! I'm glad you found it encouraging, and I definitely wish you all the best with your art 👊🏼
A very uplifting and motivational video . 😊
Thank youuuuu :3
I really like how this video is shot! That you illustrated what you were talking about by what was happening on the screen...
thank you so much! It took a lot of work so I'm really glad you liked it xD
Glad to be of service :) I bet it took a lots of work! Thanks for your reply, it made me happy, I am watching you for a long time now, but never commented before...
this is the best artist advice
hehe thank you 🙈
This video is so calming and pleasing uwu
omg thank you thank you! I really tried xD
Lovely video, right on point
thank you! :)
i needed this xoxox
aw wishing you all the best with your art ^_^
great advice and video! Definitely contains the truth, as an artist myself. As for other advice I can give; it is okay to be discouraged at times. Be angry about the fact that it didn't work out, but look at the piece you've done. In every artwork that has failed there's something you still like. Messed up on proportions? U might be overlooking that your linework or coloring looks better! Compare to previous works and realise how you are developing. Train your eye and analyse what you like about certain artists. The journey is long and certainly not easy, but if you keep on climbing back up after every fall, you'll get there. Experiment. Do what u feel content with. Art is about having fun.
Thank you and OMG YAS "Be angry about the fact that it didn't work out, but look at the piece you've done" we can take that anger, disappointment and frustration to work in our favour by aiming to do better in the next artwork :) Lots of good advice here! :D :D
hi! i've been dealing with anxiety about art lately, since ive shifted to a course that i want to learn but i lack the skills when it comes to drawing and painting. but thank you for your advice! it's in line with the changes that i want for my 2017.
another helpful tip i got from my drawing professor was that when people talk shit about your art work, remember that you can't please everyone and as long as you love what you're doing and you know the areas you can improve on, just keep going.
That's really great advice (and something I also have to keep repeating to myself from time to time). Also I wish you all the best with your art and your course. 👊🏼 may you have an amazing 2017 :D
Beautiful video
Great advice and amazingly put together video! ^^
The best art advice i have to give is to draw from real life! For example, when you're looking for a character pose, don't look for an artwork with the same pose, look for models or real life people in that pose. That way you learn the basics and can adjust everything to fit your style :)
THANK YOU SO MUCHHH OMG
Your video was very inspiring and even your advices were very well thought😊😊😊
thank you so much!! it really means a LOTTT
First of all, LOVE your format XD So one of the best advice that I have ever receive was TO LEARN THE BASICS. Especially with the whole art styles things that every (mostly) artists wanted to own one. A kindergartener needs to learn their ABC first before they wanted to figure out how their handwriting style will turn out. So as an artist, we should learn how to draw the basic things first, and then over time, you will experiment the changes or the stylized things that you give to your drawings. I haven't found my style yet, but I believe it will come eventually if I continue to learn to draw things properly. For example, I can't draw guys, I usually focus on drawing women, before, I haven't learn how to draw lips, eyes, or nose, etc properly yet. However, when I get to know the basic of them (they aren't perfect but I was getting better) I get to draw guys portrait, and I was so happy and at the same time surprised the hell out of me when I found them to not be as hard as before. The tip was from Life of a Mangaka if you are wondering, she gave super awesome helpful tips! (she is on youtube). Lastly, thanks for all the tips Zyra (╹◡╹)
Thank you and that is definitely very good advice for anyone wanting to work on their style. Yes to an extent style forms naturally and is subject to things such as the artists we follow, our personal preferences/interest etc, but we also have the decision in terms of which direction to take, so learning from the basics can help us one day twist and bend the "basics" and eventually have a style we're happy with :) AWESOME ADVICE :D
thank you you help a lot
I love you and i just started watching this video
aww 🙈 💖 💖 💖
The words that changed it all for me was "just draw".
definitely! Just do it :D
This is a very great and helpful video!!
My biggest advice is when you have no inspiration to draw something, don't force yourself to draw because it won't be your best work, even if it is for a school project, your teacher should be able to understand (at least mine does)
artiztique you don't understand how much I needed to read this
saiioka x ❤️ glad I could help
The finished piece is never going to be exactly like you envisioned, and it's not just for me, or you, but everyone. So be open to the uncertain. That's the best advice I've received. It's from the book "Turning Pro", by Steven Pressfield. The book is filled with good advice.
that's a really great advice and very true. Art is both exciting and a little daunting because of that uncertainty xD
I've been watching your videos through the years quietly and I find you really inspiring :) I'm a fashion student as well from Manila and I honestly never comment on videos. But you deserve to know you're doing a job and keep doing what you're doing inspiring me and others. Thank you Zyra! 😋
Aw thank you so MUCH! ^_^ It means a lot :D and good luck with your studies :D
thanku
I love your Art's, chooooooooooooo cute I can spend my entire time by watching Ur channel 😍😍, Interested a lot in drawing but not finding tym :(
even if i'm not an artist at all i found this video so inspiring in my stuff. the best way ti begin 2017 :3 the best for you
aw thank you! and all the best for you as well :D
💘
The best advice was to take a step back from the art work. If you work hours and hours on a piece without taking a break one may ruin it. Sometimes it is better to put the work for 1/2 days aside and work on another piece ☺
YAS DEFINITELY! Take care of yourself. Rest. Art definitely requires lots of energy (physical and mental) so breaks are good :D
My yr11/12 art teacher told me to try and drawing daily even if I don't know what to draw, he said to draw anything you see, whatever is in front of you, just draw it.
Please make a video on caricature art pls
what pencil was she using at 1:39
Can you make a workspace tour 2017?
i'd like to see this too
I actually loves drawing but I can never make time to draw and it makes me upset sometimes. I want to practice more but I procrastinte a lot xD I ended up wasting a lot of time.
